One of the best Episodes of the entire series! Loved Two-Face in it and how Robin was there for Batman.
Well after this episode we do see Two Face in the sequel series which kinda made this episode pointless because he is still pulling strings and this judge personality came out of nowhere how did that happen.
episodes like this are why Batman will always be superior to Superman, Bruce's enemies arent big evils from outer space, but a mix of tortured souls, unfortunate circumstances and shattered psyches.
_”Harvey… No.”_
Kevin Conroy’s line delivery was so fitting! 😢
Unless my memory is playing tricks on me, at that point in the series we hadn’t yet seen this incredible iteration of Batman lose his shit.
Which made Batman’s heart wrenching breakdown over a mortally wounded Commissioner Gordon in _I Am The Night_ even more poignant!
Disclaimer: I could be mixing up the order here. If so, I apologize. Back to my original point…
Which is to say that I think that was the only reaction Bruce Wayne would allow himself to have while donning his Cape and Cowl.
@@Lesley_RedRhody Harvey: "Why Didnt You Save Me?!?!"
Thomas Wayne: "Why Didnt You Save Us, Son??"
*Bruce gasps loudly and wakes up in a cold sweat.*
"Good old Bruce. Always there... you've never given up on me." One of the many lines that show why the animated Batman/Bruce Wayne was perhaps the best portrayal, because both personas were good men who really cared. RIP Kevin Conroy.
Exactly too many interpretations don’t realize the importance of the Bruce Wayne part of the character and as a result they end up making him act like this cold, calculating, almost sociopathic robot
people often focus on how "Bruce Wayne" is Batman's mask and not the other way around, which is cool and true, but TAS made much of the bat-lore we take for granted and people always seem to forget how Bruce Wayne was often there to pick up the pieces after Batman's vigilantism.
@@christopherauzenne5023 could be fun if The Batman sequel will be about Bruce realizing that his life has Bruce is as important as Batman and he is more than just Batman
A lot of criticism goes to Bruce Wayne that he doesn't use his money and influence to try to help his villains and I'm like, you clearly never watch Batman the animated series
"Good old Bruce. Always there... you've never given up on me." -TwoFace
"Leave me, your the only one who cares" -Freeze
"I gave you the perfect life just so you would stay out of mine!" -Hatter
"Almost got him" -Catwomen
"It was a big rock..." -technically not Crock
"YOUR NOT BATMAN!" -Joker
“Nice guys like you shouldn’t have bad days.” -Harley
"I didn't mean to" -Baby Doll in tears
"Batman. He is going to catch me... sooner or later" -Riddler
“We used to date.” -Ivy
I always loved the BTAS version of Two-Face, because it always managed to show that good side of Harvey Dent still alive in there. There was always that hope that he could be saved, and seeing him speak fondly to Bruce at the end of the episode is just heartbreaking.
Yes, it always seemed to me like it wasn’t always just Harvey speaking fondly of Bruce, but Big Bad Harv as well. Like even the evil personality of Harvey appreciates that Bruce never gives up on them, ever.
It’s true two face hates Batman, but Harvey Dent dose care a lot about Bruce Wayne.
"Good old Bruce..." Its funny how easy it is for us to forget that Batman and Bruce are two different characters, much like Harvey and Two-Face. Both good men with dark counterparts.
that is sorta the point of two-face, a lot of the great batman villains are meant to reflect some aspect of bruce/batman's character. Also, I feel another part of what made this show so great was that they did did let bruce wayne be a character, too many batman media just treat him as an afterthought or just front for batman and the end result is that he comes of as an emotionless, almost sociopathic robot. He needs bruce wayne to show his humanity through episodes like this and many others
RIP Kevin Conroy, Best Batman of All Time!
Loved the first episode and shall love this one and the others more!🎉🎉
RIP Kevin Conroy😢, the greatest actor to ever voice Batman. You definitely Batman for many people of their generation. You make my childhood what it was. You are gone, but not forgotten
Never forgotten.
This is actually a pretty heartfelt episode. Certainly tugs at your heartstrings.
Yes, it was
One of the most "Harsher in Hindsight" moments in this story, that also, doubles as something heartwarming. When Bruce and Dick walk together at the end just after the touching moment between Harvey and Bruce. Later, as this "Bat-May" run continues this month. Everyone will witness the falling out, and complete differences that destroy the two's friendship in years to come. It always made me cry acknowledging that this was one of many few loving moments between Batman and Robin as friends.
Thats why i didnt like tnba. Took away alot of Bruce's good traits. More stoic and less empathetic. The only time I saw a glimpse of BTAS Bruce was when it was revealed Bruce had hired the thug who he interrogated in front of his family.
@@TheCombatRaptor another gripe that I had with the new adventures adaptation was them completely doing away with the title cards in the beginning of most of the animated series episodes, that was one of the best parts about the animated series, getting to look at all that great artwork before the episodes began was a treat.
He stopped trying to redeem two face too.
Thankfully, their friendship is renewed thanks to the new robin Tim Drake.
That bit with the trick coin is so memorable to me. How something so small can lead to the downfall of one man, over and over again.
Batman the animated series sure loved giving its villains a second chance episode. Not a redemption, but a closer look at the characters
And oftentimes the second chance got tragically yanked away from them by unfortunate circumstances. It was more the exception rather than the rule that the villain in question had no intention of redeeming themselves whatsoever. Or in this case, only half of the villain had no such intention.
Yeah most of them don’t get redeemed it’s sad to see a lot especially in this episode it’s heartbreaking at least the Ventriloquist got a happy ending
Episodes involving Two-Face are always pretty interesting. Especially when I compare where Harvey Dent started to where he ended up.
Ah Two Face, Another one of my all time favorite Batman villains! It's pretty tragic seeing Harvey Dent one of Bruce Waynes closest friends go down a dark path into the abyss of insanity.
Two-Face is probably my favorite Batman villain.
As you say, Walter, he's one the most complex of Batman's enemies.
A personification of Yin and Yang.
This is one of my favorite Two Face episodes and its a metaphor no matter how much someone wants to change for the better,it is the person who ruins there own progress.
Honestly this series is one of the reasons why Two Face is one of my favorite Batman villains, they were able to really able to tackle the complexity and tragedy of this character.
Great Two-Face episode, best one since Two-Face Part 1 & 2.
So sad that Harvey never got a happy ending in the DCAU.
My second favorite B:TAS episode of all time featuring Harvey Dent, "Two-Face Part 1" being the best in my opinion.
At least he made a friend by the time of Justice League vs the Fatal Five.
SO glad Bat-May is back. This is my favorite Batman iteration easily.
Hishe Batman is a close 2nd
Genuinely a great Two Face episode in my honest opinion
The interaction between Grayson and Bruce here, while did resolve well enough, I feel this plus the Tony Zucco episodes played a hand in the deep feelings Grayson would feel when he finally breaks away when we see him again in Nightwing's debut. Just a thought I've had...
I love The Shadow reference. It brought back memories. However I do think this was a great conclusion to Harvey's story in this version.
I love how BTAS started with Harvey Dent and and a few episodes before he became two-face and showed how Bruce and Harvey were friends
Poor Harvey...truly his only worst enemy...was himself. Great episode overall and great callback to Two Facwa greast momwnts in the past!
Great to see these reviews again, Walter - especially in honor of Mr. Conroy's indelible role as the man behind the Bat.
I love Two-Face as a character in general, so seeing more episodes diving into his foibles is always a good time for me indeed. Batman having to fight a battle on two fronts - wanting to save Bruce's friend as well as recover a victim and stop a villain for the Dark Knight - brings richer layers into the episode, making what could have been an entertaining story into a great, insightful one.
This show's interpretation of Two-Face will always rank among the best versions of him in history. Easily one of the best villains in the show
4:25 Man, that was a great hero intro.
Very underrated movie.
Two-Face episodes are some of the series, best, it was always cool to see the friendship between Bruce and Harvey and duality Two-Face had
I always felt like this episode's ending + the SubZero movie make the best ending to the series. TNBA and what comes later is okay, but it's just so sad that for all the good he tried to do, Bruce ends up as an embittered old man forsaken by his family and friends (except for Terry McGuiness).
Like Walter I've always been disappointed that Harvey never got a true 'happy ending' in BTAS (like the surgery to repair his face actually happening, or at least him being freed from the Big Bad Harv personality once and for all); but for what we did get, I thought this episode was a great send-off for the character & his deep history with Bruce/Batman. That final scene of Harvey (with only his 'good side' in the light) thanking Bruce for never giving up on him is just so powerful & beautifully done.
This is quite a damn good episode. I never seen it, but hearing it from here, it looks like it’s one to remember.
Also, there can only be one definitive Batman. R.I.P. Kevin Conroy.
My second favorite B:TAS episode of all time featuring Harvey Dent, "Two-Face Part 1" being the best in my opinion.
I love this show so much
💯
"Harvey. Nooooooo." - Batman
I was getting Shadow vibes too!
Man, could you imagine if that character had appeared in this show? It'd be so cool.
What everyone wanted for the the batman animated series when it ended XD
I like the fact that Bruce Wayne/Batman having a personal connection with Harvey Dent helps make the Two-Face episodes emotional as hell.
It's good seeing Robin getting out of trouble on his own
This is another great episode of Bat May, Day 2.
Also, just a heads-up, my mom got into a car accident (rear ended by a distracted driver) yesterday afternoon on her way home from work. She's all right, she's doing okay, but her car isn't, her car is totaled and the driver might get sued for reckless driving.
Like the Riddler, Two-Face was barely used in this series. He only had two episodes of its own. Yeah, he did appear in the episode: Shadow of the Bat, but he's more of a secondary villain since the main one is Gil Mason. I also know that he appeared in other episodes, but only as a cameo or teaming up with other villains (mainly the Joker and the Penguin).
6:05 One of the best moments in the entire series.
This is a truly fantastic episode! Two-face is a wonderful villain. It’s very interesting to see two different sides of one character’s personality work against each other. There’s plenty of good tension in this story as well. You did a wonderful job not just reviewing the story but also honoring the writer! Sounds like he did some cool stuff! I’m a Ben Reily fan myself so I’m very thankful that he was created! RIP to Gene and Kevin!
Man season 3 of btas is 🔥 i dont think theres a bad episode in it
Edit: actually in justice league vs the fatal five we see two face in his tnba design in the new arkham (mentioned in batman beyond). In that movie two face is submerged and it seems like even though he has anger issues still he is more in control of himself. He even apologizes for flying off the handle and choses to help out a fellow inmate. Which suggests Harvey is more in control again.
Robin: "What are friends for?"
Bruce: "I'm stealing your girlfriend"

One of the earliest BTAS episodes ever watched and one of my personal favourites (wish we had more episodes with Harvey/ Bruce dynamic)
Earliest? Are you talking about Two-Face's debut episode?
@@jlev1028 I meant the earliest I remember watching as a kid
This episode is very underrated; I don't see this episode talked about much. Harvey is so interesting in this show, and I wish we got to see a bit more of him.
Man, this episode just gives me chills.
4:28, nice!
Now we know where Rob and Walter got the inspiration for their Batman Forever Fanscription!
This is one of my favorite episodes of the series and a great final episode for Two-Face before the TNBA redesign.
😎
"THE SHADOW" reference was on point. I love that film. Thank you for keeping it alive! Truly, Thank you!
Rip Kevin Conroy you will forever be our batman ❤😢
This is one episode of reform villain like Harvey Dent as Two-Face to get fixed, hopefully. But sadly, all I can say is who is your worse enemy? Poor Bruce/Batman. At least he'll never be alone in this mess.
O shit bat may is still a thing?! 🍿 🥤
I'm still waiting for my two face movie
A nice deep dive into Two-Face's relationship with both Batman and Bruce.
I will say, the trick coin is a bit of a deus ex machina. I mean, is the surface completely flat and smooth with no loose gravel or dust to knock it over? But it still works, so it gets a pass.
My favorite two-face episode, Gerry Conway really know how to write stories that get your attention, and the plot twist is one of the best I’ve ever seen in the show, and Richard Moll really knows how to do a great villain voice.
Funny thing is, this WAS the beginning of the end for Two-Face. Although Harvey returned to crime after this episode, he did try to get rid of Two-Face once and for all - and came very close to succeeding - in the very last episode of this series, "Judgment Day." I won't spoil the ending of that one, but I do hope we get a review of it at the end of this month.
That said, I did enjoy this episode, partly because it's always fun when multiple villains show up. John Vernon as Rupert Thorne and Paul Williams as the Penguin were two of the very best voice actors on this show. I feel that Vernon, who was also in NATIONAL LAMPOON'S ANIMAL HOUSE and KILLER KLOWNS FROM OUTER SPACE, never got his proper due as a character actor. And Williams, despite being primarily known as a songwriter, embodied what I still consider my favorite version of the Penguin. This series retained everything about Danny DeVito's performance that worked and discarded all that didn't, and the results were magical.
RIP Efrem Zimbalist Jr.

And we begin
The best month of the year 😁
Batman: “You kidnapped yourself! I should have seen it right away! One red-herring wasn’t enough, you had to leave two!”
Did you think I wouldn’t know?
The Shadow knows!
_”Good ole’ Bruce…”_ indeed Mr. Dent, indeed.
Hands down, this is my favorite reform episode of Batman TAS. It addresses Bruce's friendship with both Harvey and Dick. I also love the mystery element of this episode. As a child, I thought Rupert Thorne was behind the kidnapping, and then scolding myself for not figuring out who it really was.
4:25 it's the Grey Ghost!
brings back memories, damn love this episode
Two-Face is easily my favorite villain. He's not simply evil. Sure he does tons of horrible things. But you know on some level it's not his fault. With characters like Riddler or Joker you know they enjoy being evil. But Two-Face still has that good in him always fighting to get out. Makes him way more relatable and sympathetic.
I just watched this episode on UA-cam. I can't wait for the next video of Bat-May 2023 tomorrow.
this series i am always waiting with anticipation for the push notification its posted!
Wow I wasn’t expecting a Shadow reference. That’s a deep cut.
"The weed of crime bears bitter fruit..."
You know I legit wonder how the series would've gone had they not stopped making Two part episodes. Some of the best in the series were Two Parters and I feel like we might've missed out on some good stories had they made them longer and given them enough breathing room.
I really hope there's a timeline somewhere where there was a Shadow/Batman animated crossover . Thank You for doing that.
4:28 There he is, in all his “no billowing cape” glory.
My fave BTAS Two-Face story is Batman: Black and White's "Two of a Kind" by Bruce Timm. Such an amazing, tragic tale about how it feels like Harvey can never escape his inner demons.
Still one of my favourite episodes, if not my most favourite.
nice name drop on The Shadow. love that movie.
I can only imagine how much it must hurt Bruce to see Harvey reduced to this. He wants to help him, he wants to make him better, but he CAN'T. And so long as Two-Face is more interesting to writers and audiences as a supervillain, he never will.
Ahhh my favorite time of the year is here!
i too loved this episode, great story with all the people involved making it.
That would have been a helluva crossover with the Shadow.
6:05 Favorite Scene That Hits U In The Feelings.
People mostly quote Harvey's line, "Good old Bruce - he's never given up on me..." But to me, the line just after that had even more pull. "I remember when he and I used to close the town at the Half Moon Club. Most fun I've ever had. Heard they were tearing the old place down tomorrow. I guess... nothing good lasts forever..."
There was depth to that. It could have been Harvey Dent referring to his good half, somehow knowing that Big Bad Harv was about to take control again. That this would be the last gasp for his good side. It could also have been the writers and others working on the series, knowing that these were the last episodes before the show was 'revamped', and possibly knowing that the good work they'd done up until then was about to be replaced with something... perhaps NOT as good.
If you think about it, Bruce and Harvey have pretty similar situations; Both have two different identities, a light and a dark side, and both are in a constant balancing act to ensure one identity doesn't overtake the other! It's no wonder that they're good friends!
It also makes sense why Harvey made a good candidate to take up the Batsuit mantle in the comics that one time!
BATMAN is a friend til the end
I always love checking these out, even for episodes that I looked over before. It's always good for a new perspective and a better appreciation for this amazing series
I recently saw that animated Justice League movie on toonami that had a cameo from Two-Face, showing him living at Arkham but well behaved and emotionally stable for the most part. Given that movie's art style I feel like it continued this continuity, even if there is some fudge factor between BTAS and JLU
The Shadow reference was great.
Great episode and nice use of the Shadow
OK, now I want a Shadow - The Animated Series.
Whoo that Ghost scene was Batman levels of smooth
This episode was fabulous.
That joke with The Shadow on the bridge. Now I want to see that scene play out
That reference to The Shadow was brilliant!
TwoFace always been my favorite BTAS Rouge
This is the episode that stuck with me the most from when I was 5...
I want to say that the tension between Bruce and Dick was the beginning foreshadowing of the eventual split that let Batgirl take his place later.
thats why this is still my favorite version of bruce/batman, both sides show that despite everything Bruce/Batman is a good man doing what he can to help others. i mean even the Big bad Harv side of Two-Face seems to appreciate how Bruce is always there and never gives up on them
Even the shadow loved that garbage joke
Love this episode, easily in my top 5.
Looking back on these episodes really makes me wish we'd gotten another season of the OG Batman TAS before it changed art styles and to some extent characterization. Just wish we'd atleast made it to 100 of these kinds of episodes.
Another fantastic episode, and appropriate for May 2, as well.
