This is the absolute best time to come. Everyone wants a deserted paradise island, well now is one of the few times in history you will ever get that. It's been a really tough couple of years for those of us who live and work in the region. Things will only open up as the people start to come back. So please, don't wait for it to get busy. Come and enjoy the paradise the way it was 30 years ago before mass tourism. 🙏
that is **exactly** what I've been doing for the last 5 months. It's been magical to see Thailand without 40 million annoying tourists in the way! Beaches have been empty, enough restaurants have been open, it's been fabulous. 30k baht for a month at a really nice resort on Lamai (Jasmine). We were the only people there! Swam at Lamai and Crystal Bay most days usually just to ourselves. Whale sharks at Chumpon. Roads safer (relatively - TIT) for cycling. Sadly it's all coming to an end. It would be nice if we didn't go back to mass tourism especially in Thailand where there is little to no planning and no regulation, but I'm not holding my breath on that one.
Thailand will be back on it feet in no time Michael… Thailand is a special place for a lot of people. I’m glad it gives you great memories with your mum 🥲. Thank you for your comment 🖤
I was in Phi Phi three days before this was published. I had an amazing time! I was pleasantly surprised by how many people were at my hotel pool and all the restaurants that were open were very good! Several places opened while I was there and I had an amazing time with PP Princess Divers! I loved the low key vibe and can't wait to go back. If you like Indian, try Papaya.
Sad. Asf really you had to be there 2001 and 2002 the island and surrounding islands absolute best memories that will last forever and 2012 was nice too
What a positive video in a seemingly endless barrage of bad news and despair. I’m coming to Thailand in February but will probably head to Phuket, but you never know. I first visited Phi Phi in 2003 and was due to go the year after, didn’t end up going but you know what happened. I revisited in 2005 and the devastation was unimaginable. Do they still have the shrine there? The place looks unrecognisable from my last visit. Thanks for sharing and I’m glad UA-cam algorithms recommended your channel. bonne chance and happy travels.
Thank you so much for your comment. This island is almost in halves. The Pier side is around 40% open with the rest opening up with construction etc. which i would expect 80% open by the end of the year. The opposite side/ backpacker side is completely closed and in a bad way. I think this side might take 3/4 month to be back on it's feet. Maybe longer as i guess it depends on the demand. Thank you for watching. We will be making videos on our travel in Phuket/Krabi too so subscribe we'll keep you updated. Have a great trip in Feb! 🖤
I was living on Phi Phi working from 1998 - 2002 and If I was bored of Had Yao (Long Beach) where I lived, then I wen't into the village. Mad Place already that time! Always remember the feeling coming back to Had Yao and did not feel any need of getting back to the village for a week or so ;-) But now....It looks even more crazy. Concrete where ever I look.
We are travelling to Phuket in February 2023 and from what I've seen from other UA-camrs is that Phuket and the islands are still slowly getting back on their feet after the pandemic. It's great to see a really positive video that both acknowledges that there are still problems, but that takes a positive stance in the great efforts the Thai's are making to try to back to some form of normality. Any nation who economy relies heavily upon Tourism, needs tourists and slowly but surely they will return. Brilliant and informative video... Many thanks and happy travels to you one and all.
I’m so happy they are back on their feet… I can’t wait to go back next year to see the changes. Thailand is a very special place and it’s because of the people.. they will always be okay. Great spirit. You’re going to have an amazing time in February Andy. I’m jealous!!! ☺️🖤🖤
My gf and I just came back from Phi Phi and I can confirm that these clickbaiters focused on literally the 50 yards that are undergoing construction, which generally have construction waste associated with them. Remember, it's a small island, so there's no convenient garbage tip anywhere - all garbage is shipped off the island. These areas were completely repaired and completed when we got there. It's an amazing island with breathtaking views wherever you go, and most places are now open. Don't let this video put you off of going. DO IT - it's paradise on Earth, and a convenient jumping-off point to other amazing islands.
Did you watch the video? The only reason we said not to go.. is if you're a backpacker and expect 4am parties with buckets! The rest of the video is us telling people they should definitely go. I don't know what you watched but it wasn't our video if that's what you took from it!
Arrived on phi Phi 2 days ago, i can say it has been allot more opened up allready! Its true that still some shops closed and all bars/nightlife arent open due to covid regulations. But i can definatly say it has become a lot more busy allready compaired to the time of your video was shot! For example that "beach bar" where you sat is full now all the time, couldnt get a seat every moment i passed it 😅 T is still quit empty, so i agree with the positive feeling that the island is bringing now! Doesn't feel too touristy now allthough you can see how busy it normally would be by just all the empty rooms/hotels. Ferry we had probably has 500+ seats(??) but only like 30-40 taken. So yeah if you want a good island vibe and enjoy the good times in and around the water, now is definatly the time! Dont come yet if you backpacker that wants to get drunk every night;)
Great to hear the vibe is still positive… we’re heading back out to Thailand next month so will definitely pop back to PhiPhi to see the progress. Thanks for the update Nick.. really appreciate it. 🖤
We stayed in Phi Phi Maiyada in one of the bamboo huts by the pool. It was nice… a bit further out from the bars and restaurants though. I would say ideal when it’s busy but would probably stay closer while it’s still quiet. 🖤
How did you travel in Thailand... I now have a kid and when I last went few years back, me and the Mrs relied on motorbike rentals that gave us freedom to go where we want. I'd imagine with a kid you only did tuk tuks???
I wouldn't advise ANYONE to rent a motorbike if they don't have experience riding, baby or not... HOWEVER... In our situation we rented a scooter in the quiet destinations, like the islands. We wouldn't dream of it in the big cities, we would only get taxis, but I trust myself more than I trust a local tuk tuk... especially as a tuk tuk is just a caged motorbike anyway. Unpopular view, but that's what we do. Lawrence driving, baby carrier on the back of him and me on the back, making a baby sandwich. Baby carrier is a MUST. All that being said, you can get around by hiring cars (which we did a lot of) and taxis etc... You'll find a way 😁 🖤
Oh it was getting busier by the day mate. Assuming the C word doesn’t blow up again. March April would be a great time to go. We’ll be back out there then too! 🖤
Thank you so much! For showing this view! We will be going to phi phi In about two weeks... Can't wait. Did y'all stay in phi phi? Or just do a day trip? Trying to decide if we should spend a few nights there. Thank you for your fun fun channel!
