Thank you for explaining this so clearly. Your instructions worked like a charm despite the fact that I'm on a Mac (10.14. 6 Mohave). Just one wee thing to note is that the "adjust color' icon in Preview does not look like ' a scale' - rather more of a triangle with a feather in it or something like that. Also I didn't understand why 4 folders pop up if you highlight only one. Many things for helping me organize the madness.
Still works as of June 12th, 2022. Great guide. I almost messed up the "select all" step because I forgot to click within the active preview window prior to clicking "select all". I wanted a grey folder so all I had to do was drop the saturation.

Also, when I open preview, it doesn't open, unless I go to "open" and then I see things that I've opened before in preview, but not the new folder." Any work arounds for this? I have Big Sur. I wish you could just right click on it to change color! Thank you for your clear instructions, but they don't seem to work for me.

A33Y What I had to do was search my desktop and open the “preview” icon. From there you should be able to see your current folders. Once you have copied the folder you want to change the color of and have preview open, it should say “new from clipboard” under file. Hope this helps!
I agree kind off crazy. I'm working on a folder of free folders that people can just download and copy. Instead of going through all the different steps

You may not have copies the image correctly. I would try it again.

What version are you using?

Is there a way to change the color of the font on the folders so they're not all white?
As far as I know, no. What you could do, is create an image on the folder or text on the folder to change that.
