    My journey through FFXIV from ARR to Endwalker was a goddamned magical experience. Without a doubt my most joyful and memorable experience as a gamer. 35+ years of memories and adventures in a franchise all coming together. The story is hands down some of the absolute best storytelling I have EVER experienced. The community is super friendly. The developers actually play their game AND give a shit about their playerbase. I'm not an emotional guy by any stretch of the imagination but this game reduced me to tears on several occasions. You care about the world, the characters, the heroes and villains, the music, the community . . . ALL of it is solid 10/10 all around. If you're a long time Final Fantasy fan like me than all of that explodes exponentially. I am genuinely sad that there are tons and tons of people who won't get to have the experience that I have had playing this game. Cheers and love to all who know exactly what I am describing.

      I mean I think the game is fun to play, but there are still a ton of issues with it I almost wish they remade FF XIV into a new MMO on a new engine with a proper network infrastructure this time. In terms of story I think the best part is easily attributed to the localization god Koji Fox's work in translating the story from Japanese to English. Koji's work gets overlooked quite a bit and needed to give him credit here. I enjoyed SB and Shadowbringers stories but unfortunately, and I know this is unpopular, I can't say the same for Endwalker, although there were some cool moments. What do you mean by 35+ years of memories coming together? I don't understand what this has to do with the other final fantasies.

      @@Malnaxe FF14 not only references other titles in the franchise, it takes elements and concepts from them as well. It has its own story, but it uses the stories from previous titles as a base, and builds upon them. This is why tons of people can accurately predict what is going to happen in the story YEARS before those things actually come to fruition. The game as a whole is a love letter to the franchise.
      On your opinion regarding EW, it isn't really unpopular. Tons of people didn't really like it as much, and I get them. EW has a very specific message it wants to deliver, and sadly, said message is only meaningful to the people who are going through "it", or have gone through it. To me, EW isn't only my favorite expansion, but one of my favorite gaming experiences period, the things I felt while playing through it genuinely helped me push through some difficult stuff that was going on in my life.

    • @obviouslykaleb7998
      @obviouslykaleb7998 2 роки тому

      @Stefan L I definitely agree with ur opinion on EW. Spoilers ahead for people who haven't played:
      There were moments that it really shined - Garlemald, radz-at-han, and "The Walk" were all very well crafted, and hit their mark remarkably well. The storytelling was on point, as ever.
      But it has flaws; Dynamis (the force on which the entire expac was designed around) felt shoehorned in while ignoring past lore, Hydaelyn's character was made into a idiotic, defeatist maniac, and the pacing of the story at about the 60-90% mark (in particular, Labyrinthos) felt like absolute dogwater. Also they added _ENTROPY_ to a world in which people can time travel with no consequences.
      The expansion is not without its' merit though, as I mentioned before; its' flaws were just too large to ignore.
      As an aside, they also made SAM unfun to play, which sucks.

      Tbh, I think it starts looking up when you get to Yanxia and especially the Azim Steppe. The worst part to me is the introductory bit in Ala Mhigo. But I'll agree that even though Stormblood starts slow and there are some pretty weak aspects of it, it has a lot of really great stuff in it, too.
      I don't agree with people that say its story is bad while the others are good. It's definitely the least consistently good of the expansions, story-wise, though. I feel like combat content was a different story back when it was current, but people don't experience that in the same way anymore.

    Honestly this was me with FFXI. Never got into WoW as much as Asmon, and while I enjoyed playing FFXIV, it just felt lacking something for me. It was cool that it encouraged taking breaks, but sometimes I wanted more to do and I didn't play any other games at the time. Eventually I lost all interest in playing 14 at all. Honestly I always kinda wanted a sense of adventure in the MMO I was playing, and while FFXIV's zones were pretty I didn't enjoy all the invisible walls.
    - so I decided to give FFXI a try. It may not have the best graphics, but FFXI is still an amazing game, and the grind is real, but for the real experience you have to join a classic server. Even leveling zones require party members. It's kinda like a more brutal WoW classic, and holds your hand less than any MMO I've played (no quest markers, minimap, etc) and you can get killed by a low level goblin or orc if you're not careful. Now It's hard to want to get into any other MMO tbh, it's become the only game I play now. It's helped considerably with my depression and inspired me to write stories.

      They are not really trying to encourage having players do something that is mandatory. Theres tons of content though, and more coming. The last couple of patches i couldnt even keep up lol. But ofc its not for everyone, since it branches out in many direction as in side stories, crafting, raiding and alm that, so i can definitely understand if its not really the "right mmo" for some people, but perfect for me. i should try out the other FF you mentioned.

Spend time at limsa crafting and waiting for dungeon queues with very little reason to explore the world again outside of gathering. It's a good game (great even) But I guess I get more attached to old school MMOs. EverQuest and FFXI (etc) have this sense of adventure that's hard to find in other MMOs, and I guess are more suited to a gamer like me. There are many gamers where 14 is literally perfection but it never hit every note for me. I still have fond memories of the game though

    Actually, once you get past Heavenward you would understand why there's a 2.5s GCD. There is alot of weaving skills inbetween and the combat is really fluid. The mechanics and quality of the fights also skyrockets in quality.

    • @IRedpunk
      @IRedpunk 2 роки тому +1

      Not all jobs have a ton of weaving, honestly even after a year of playing, it still makes the combat slow and at times clunky (inconsistent double weaving etc). This is even more true in PvP.
      So unless you’re a dragoon or samurai to some extend, I still don’t see much point in it.
      You also don’t have that many oGCDs at 60, hell not even at 70, starts mostly at 80 and beyond.

      @boogiesama 2 роки тому +1

      I would agree that weaving isnt too big at 60 or 70, but Im pretty sure all jobs have weaving especially 60 onwards. Tanks and heals are no exception to this as generally you would be ogcd weaving heals/buffs/mitigation inbetween gcds. Inconsistent double weaving is a factor of ping as well and some jobs that rely on double weaving to be optimized will suffer greatly from high ping. Take gunbreaker or machinist.
      I think that while there might not be that many ogcds to play with (pre 80), its the relationship between shuffling rotations with mechanics that gives ffxiv a fluid feeling of combat. I think its supposed to not be many to not overwhelm players as mechanics are plentiful and varied in dungeons and trials.
      Pvp has a lower gcd cd (approx 1.5 sec) and ogcd cd are low too so you dont even want to be double weaving in the first place in that case. Thats just my opinion on it though

A lot of players are more casual, and having a fuckton of buttons with lower GCDs can be intimidating to those players. The way they do it is a way ease in non-sweaties. I personally prefer 1s GCDs, but spell weaving while dancing around the stage is enjoyable as well. The biggest criticism to the combat system, though, is the weird delay they have in place. The devs explained why the game has it, but I don't remember why. Just makes it feel unresponsive, but used to it, I guess.

I started in the lat 90's with Everquest (I miss those days) slid over over to Anarchy Online (more than a few FFXIV player stuff reminds me of GSP parties back then, glad to see they are still a thing in AO). Then did EVE for a few years. I spent about 15 years doing almost no computer gaming other than MMOs. 2015 I was feeling bored, and got Skyrim (don't get me wrong, I played ES games from Arena to Morrowind, which was around the time I got in EQ). Skyrim got me playing solo games for the first time in a long time. I kept trying MMO's, tryed going back to ones I loved, tried new ones, (even tried WOW a couple times, just blah). Then just over a year ago, a friend asked me to run FFXIV MSQ with her on her stream. I've been blown away. Not just the awesome story, but like Pint says "There is so much to do and have fun in this game with!" And it is, it's fun, 99% of the people are great, and the dev's for the most part seem to care about the game, even after all these years it's been live.

    I really wish more people went and tried BDO again. The game has added so many systems and methods to get guranteed upgrades and straight up BiS gear. Its not the insane rng fest it used to be in a lot of ways. And as for the pay 2 win, if you got 10g's or more sitting around sure you can sell or cron enough outfits to get everything to pen but that literally takes so much so much money and they constantly give you free materials resources etc. Its just a shame that is engrained its rep like this but is a very good game. They have added a good amount of story content, shifting to fully voiced stuff, adding to the lore, making systems easy to engage with. Giving us a normalized gear arena for ranks, capped siege modes so you don't have to be super duper geared same for node wars. Is the game perfect oh hell no, but its not this rng fest i see alot of people describe it as anymore. Can you do the rng stuff sure but you don't have to, these days the game encourages you really not to.
