  • @mamehaze
    @mamehaze Рік тому +142

    The audio on Beast Busters 2nd Nightmare (in MAME) is still a bit of a problem, but I made some significant improvements to the video emulation in MAME over the last year, so a lot of the priority bugs (life bar going behind the 3D etc.) that are present in the footage here are no longer a problem at least.
    Audio is.. difficult. It's basically a decent quality synth/sampler/sequencer (the Akai MPC-3000) transplanted onto an arcade board, rather than one of the more common audio solutions. The audio DSP used is completely undocumented, and quite capable, so reverse engineering it from how the software wants it to behave alone is a real challenge.

      Thank you for your hard work on MAME, the help this has on game preservation cant be understated. As well just purely keeping these titles alive for future generations to experience and enjoy. I still have my ever growing MAME collection from the early 2000s. Arcades are a thing of the past where I live unfortunately so without MAME a lot of these would have been lost to time in my area. Thank you

    I rented Williams Arcade Collection for the SNES as a kid and that damn Sinistar scared me as a kid. I was too afraid to pick that game afterward and stuck to Defender and Joust.

    It even features various Horror movie characters like Pennywise, Pinhead and the girl from The Ring as bosses.

    Theres a Silent Hill arcade cab at Galloping Ghost arcade along with Castlevania Arcade, but the former is rarely working whenever I go to visit, its just the nature of light gun games, they require the most up keep to make sure the guns stay in synch and when you have as many hands touching it as that place does with hundreds of other games in need of attention, you'll rarely find a light gun game 100% ready to go

Another light gun arcade game I remember enjoying a lot was,....it was up to 3 players, each one a different color, and the ghosts were like a cartoon-ish art style and holograms. Like, you could only see where they were on the screen by looking through the square glass 'sight' on top of your gun. I remember one level (maybe the first?) was a haunted house type theme.

    funny story on Night Slashers, I'd picked up the Switch version and my wife was watching me play... 90% of her gaming is more modern stuff, so imagine my surprise when she told me that she wanted to try it! It's kind of jank, but we had a ton of fun just smashing zombie heads into the pavement and just credit feeding our way through it. jankness aside it's definitely a good candidate for a halloween playlist. we did also play through the HOTD remake, I definitely recommend locating a pistol grip shell, although there aren't really many other games that will use it but it definitely helps the experience in HOTDR!

    I wonder what you got planned for tuesday. 🎃👻...oh hell yeah. I'm about to buy that night slashers switch port....to build upon his last choice Beast Busters, check out the NGPC game Dark Arms: Beast Busters 1999. Recently played it on the NGPC collection they have for switch. It's a fun horror theme action RPG

    A lot of these can be played on pc with a sinden light gun or gun4ir. They're expensive but it's nice to bring the light gun experience home in 2023.
