Me: - ready to felt after unplying - “check that you have the right end”... 👀 yeah no I totally had the right end. That wasn’t a perfectly timed warning or anything... hahaha

Haha that's EXACTLY what I've done before, and I had to make sure I put it in there 😆

Yes more Nalbinding! I might eventually understand how to do it one day too ;)

@@YlvaTheRed I'll probably make a mess of it. That's what

@@PopulaUrbanum I'd be almost dissappointed if your very first piece isn't a mess, because that's the best learning curve!

I love this! There's also the 'Russian Join' sheepandstitch.com/library/how-to-join-yarn-in-knitting-russian-join/ which seems pretty good, although I've not tried it yet. Of course, the question, as always, is, what was the historical method?

The splicing method shown here is the most accepted method. Susanna Brooke and Iduna Sundarp are well known for their reconstruction & exploration of historical textiles from the Viking age and this is the method they teach. I am currently awaiting some more detailed photos of the Coppergate sock to try to evaluate this for myself, but museums have been rather busy and are running on a skeleton crew.

Ok so now after doing a line of the stitches, how do I know where to go into the stitch for the next row?

Hi Sara! If you check out my latest video, it's all about the second row! Hopefully it will be helpful for you ☺

So, I'm a fiber newbie and don't yet know all of the properties and secrets of yarn, but I have heard that superwash yarns are difficult to felt. It did not register to me that the yarn I'd picked for my first nalbinding project was superwash merino... Whoops! Is there a secret method I'm missing out on, or should I just avoid superwash wool yarns for future nalbinding projects? Thank you for this video!

Superwash yarn may be a bit harder to felt, but not impossible! Having said that, I personally try not to use it for my projects.

@@YlvaTheRed Alright! I tried it yesterday, and it was not impossible, but certainly an uphill battle, and I think I was impatient! I ended up with a join that was bulkier/airy and looser than I wanted, and a little precarious, but it seems to be holding up alright in the nalbound piece itself. For the rest of this project, I'll probably try a different joining method, but I'm really excited about making sure I use yarn better suited for nalbinding moving forward!

@@harperancu4575 if it was a bit loose and airy, then yes, it probably just needed a bit more time and work, but it's excellent that you got it to a point you could still work with it! Good job!
