Hi if this motor was driving a 3 point hitch PTO chipper, and the chipper has a heavy flywheel that has a lot of momentum, when the hydraulic flow is turned off, the flywheel would keep turning and the hydraulic motor would become a hydraulic pump. Would it pressurize the input lines with the same "polarity", or would the "polarity" flip? Polarity meaning which line has higher pressure (supply line) and which line has lower pressure (return line).

@Hydro Marine Power Turns out there's nothing theoretical about it. Manufacturers put a check valve to freewheel the chipper after hydraulic flow from the machine is turned off. I certainly hope the 100 lb flywheel wouldn't try to stop instantly, that would likely break the shaft.
@@wildmanofborneo Hydraulic system do have Pressure Relief valves set at appropriate pressure. If the flywheel suddenly stops and system pressure builts up, it won't exceed system set pressure and flow will be diverted from relief valve and system won't be damaged. If flywheel doesn't stop suddenly than it will stop eventually for sure.
Hello, there are 2 things here. First, on how much RPM does your pump work? That will give you estimated flow. Second thing is what is torque required at system's max output pressure. If you know these 2 things then you can select a Hydraulic Motor and know its output RPM.
Hello, in order to not give any movement to Hydraulic Motor, you should use valve which returns the oil coming from the pump to the tank. If the Motor is under load and you need to hold the load then you need to install pilot operated brake and install a counter balance valve.

@qwerty12341244 Yes thank you. I have seen the commercially made chippers have a check valve connecting the supply and return lines, allowing a free-wheeling effect when the supply is turned off. Just circulates fluid to spin down the system in a gradual manner.
Put a needle valve at return hose there to restrict the oil if u want to check for the internal leakage

Hello, for driving this motor on 250 RPM you'll need 30 cc gear pump if Electric motor is 60 Hz cycle.

As far as you are concerned about just polarity, yes it will switch until the flywheel is in motion
in practice you'd have a case drain or crossover valve to prevent pressure from building
