      I won't be shooting full auto, BUT the best thing about the AR is how standardized it is. It's a pain to deal with uppers that don't have AR feed ramps if for whatever reason you need or want to replace major components. I know from experience.

    • @redtra236
      @redtra236 2 місяці тому +4

      @@SAR0311 What does full auto have to do with it? The M4 feed ramps are a different angle that supposedly make feeding more reliable so the benefit is there for semi auto too. However the issue is it has part of the ramps cut into the actual aluminum upper which means you'll have issues if you put a barrel extension on that has M16 feed ramps, since they can hit the bottom part of the M4 ramps in the upper and underride the barrel extension.

      Pistol grip is your issue. You can easily get a 10 rounder, I'm sure.
      Could you get a grip with a paddle and pair that with a 10 round mag to make it state compliant?
      I know it's lame but if you really want it you probably could make it state compliant with those.
      You could also move to Texas or something too but I know that's much less reasonable.
      I thought Oregon and Washington state are relaxed on their restrictions. Those are just north of California.
      For New York you could move south to Florida for one of the biggest "pro gun" states in the union. Maybe Pennsylvania or West Virginia by New York.

    Springfield Armory coming in at $1200, PSA-H&R sitting at $1200, Brownell used to sell theirs at $1200. It's not like these rifles aren't worth the money, but it's strange no one has tried to shift the market prices down to the $900-$1000 price range to improve sales. Most people are going to keep buying Ruger or S&W carbines at $700 and not think twice when they see these are not priced similarly.
    Sure, these have more of a niche market appeal, but they wouldn't be so niche if the prices didn't make them remain so.

    Anyone looking for a carry handle M16 I really recommend the A1 not the A2. The problems with A2s are quite extensive. The barrel design is literally based on a myth that was debunked before they could stop it from becoming a feature of the rifle. As a result, the muzzle end of the rifle is quite heavier than it should be. Second, the butt stock length was extended for basically no practical reason. The A1 length is much much better for 99% of people. Third, the notch in the pistol grip basically does nothing other than just exist. Fourth, the sighting system is over complicated for no reason other than the fact that the marine corps wanted to be able to shoot farther than the combat effective range of the caliber. Lastly, the 1/7 twist causes a loss of velocity in 55gr ammunition and also results in a loss of accuracy vs a 1/12 twist rate barrel. The 1/7 twist rate was designed for heavy tracers and M855 is an awful variant of 556 that completely fails to do what it was made for.
    Get an A1. You will be glad you did.

    • @AMT4245
      @AMT4245 2 місяці тому

      @@tomb6593 Because the military wanted to update the rifle. The only thing that really changed for the better was the hand guards and the shell deflector. Everything else was pretty much for nothing.

    • @SAR0311
      @SAR0311 2 місяці тому

      You are correct but you are not talking to gun people who will understand or care. The only real improvement that was needed was the rifling twist to stabilize the M855 tracers. The then updated rear side aperture that was insisted upon by the USMC was only practical for competition and long-range shooting, which the 5.56mm doesn't have the mass or legs to be useful upon impact at those long distances. It was only ever useful for Garrison type on-base, known distance range, slow fire shooting. Never utilized or ever practical in the field or real-world conditions. But it's still kinda nice having the bragging rights to say that we qualified at 500 yards with iron sights. No one ever adjusted range or elevation in real life firefights down range.

      @lastswordfighter 2 місяці тому

      The A1s and older variants saw a lot of use between combat, training, and guard detail from in a variety of service from multiple decades. Parts wore out and had to be replaced. In the 1980s the Belgians also upgrade the. 233/5.56 cartridge to get better range, accuracy, and stopping power. This was another reason for the upgrades as well.

      @@AMT4245The 3 round burst was just stupid. At least the Canadians didn't bother with it with the C7 which was their better built M16. All it does is make the trigger system more complicated than it needs to be, and it just makes more sense to fire in bursts in a full auto setting.
