Wow, I have been waiting for this for a long time, since the previous UA-cam version got removed. It is one of the few movies with no major villains and yet can produce much drama.
Although this was not a 中聯 production, several 中聯 personnel participated, including the three leading actors and the director. The quality of the movie rivaled those by 中聯. I don't know if the plot line of someone's lover becoming his grandmother appeared in any other movie.
So why could 小燕飛 not rekindle her romance with 張活游? The grandfather was long dead. No one knew about that history. She told Ng she never stopped loving Cheung, and Cheung never tried to find another woman. Throughout the movie, there was no indication she had romantic feelings for Ng. The voice over only talked about how grateful she was to Ng, never love.
@@陳小吉-y8p According to this Lim person, King Lear brought everything on himself, so why should we care. This movie was made in 1954, not 1964. So was it original at that time? Lots of those Cantonese movies had serious flaws. I don't think this was one of them.
@@陳小吉-y8p I do take them seriously, my new found respect for 粵語長片. But the important thing for me is consistency in characterization. I find in this movie, that was done very well. Little Swallow was sold as a young girl, mistreated, and had no education. Why should we expect her to behave differently than she did?
Wow, you are a woman and you don't understand mother and child connection? You cannot use logic and reason to explain her feeling. Plus, her entire experience was so messed up, her distorted thinking was understandable. That is not to say everyone in her position would react the same way. It did not even look like she loved Ng Chor Fan, so the daughter might have had been a way of her to rationalize to herself why she did not want to marry him.
此片也是第一次觀看很好的片字也要歸功導演秦劍出色的指導和鏡頭運用技巧。小燕飛雖外貌平凡但演技出色，另她在秦劍導演的金蘭姊妹也表現亮麗也知道她是很有義氣的人除幫過小明星外還記得她在80年代末尊程由美國回港只為送別老朋友曹達華移民英國和家人團聚可見老一輩藝人的情誼。這代前輩演員會永遠記得他們。
戲女主角好苦，好彩遇到有兩男主角真心對她好，一個做她老公，打仗照顧她十多年，另一個做她孫，又找到 自己親生女，大團圓結局😊😊😊，苦盡甘來😊😊😊

First, she was not a 明星 . She was a screenwriter and author. They cast her in a few movies because of the connection (I do not know the arrangement).

Actually, of the original 中聯 big 4 actresses, I find 小燕飛 most appealing in many ways. As you said, just my personal opinion.
