A sample of fans reacting to the final trailer to "Avengers 2: Age of Ultron". I took a different approach to the sound editing on this one, whereby I went through each clip and removed any audio where the reactor wasn't saying anything i.e. the "autogate" method . Not sure if this is better or worse than my usual approach but personally I don't like it even if it does make some of the people slightly easier to hear (the sudden jumps in volumn are what I don't like, will have to see if I can improve that in the next experiment). (Q1) Would you do a reaction mashup of...? (or variations on this type of question, even if you say "Hope you're working on", etc.)
(A1) Sorry but I do not take requests because either:
(1) this hobby will become a chore and thus boring for me,
(2) I might get spoiled on something I haven't watched yet,
(3) the comments sections of my videos get filled with posts which have nothing to do with the mashup on that page,
(4) when people make requests they don't provide a playlist of their favouite reactions as a starting point, or indicate in any way which reaction videos they had in mind, and/or
(5) the person making the request doesn't realise that there aren't enough reactions of what they're requesting (and in most cases they haven't even looked at any reactions at all)
Also, please read the last part of the opening paragraph directly at the top of this description, thanks! :)
(Q2-a) Would you include my reaction in your next mashup?
(A2-a) Sorry, the answer is no because:
(1) I like to decide who makes it into my mashups,
(2) there is only so much space available in a mashup resulting in someone being disappointed or annoyed at me if they don't make it in,
(3) I only have a limited amount of free time to make these and so I'd rather not have to keep a list of who I "must" include.
(Q2-b) Why isn't so-and-so in this mashup?
(A2-b) Basically the same answer as (Q2-a) about but with the addition that I also like to change things up a bit.
(Q3) How do you deal with copyright so that you can monetise your videos?
(A3) I don't, really. I think there's only three videos in total as of January 2015 which I have monetised. All of the other videos I have uploaded have copyright claims on them and therefore all advertising revenue goes to the copyright holders, I don't get a single penny from them. Although there is a valid argument to be made that the vast majority of my mashups fall under "fair use" and "criticism", as well as the mashup as a whole being a "transformative" work, it would be a long drawn out process to revoke the copyright claim and I just can't be bothered to go through it.
(Q4) Is youtube your main job?
(A4) lol, no. I have a full time job, this is just a hobby for me to do on a Sunday morning. Almost all of my mashups have copyright claims on them so any advertising revenue goes straight to the copyright holders, I make virtually nothing from these. This really is just for fun. Even if I could make enough money from youtube, I wouldn't want it as my job, I love my current type of work way too much.

Thanks, it was a fun reaction video you two made! How did you find this video btw? Apart from annotations on my other Avengers videos, and my channel page, I can't work out how people are finding this? I was expecting maybe 20 or 30 views at most for this unlisted video.

In my completely personal opinion, the older sound editing was better.

I see what you've tried to do here, yeah, this technique works bad for mashups like you and me are making. This works only for mashups that Speak Preview makes. He's not cuting parts where someone is saying nothing, but also the video, and it works great for it. I have to tell, i'm planning to to one mashup in the future in the style of Speak Preview (of course crediting him in video) just to try something else :D
Yeah, I totally agree mate, without some level balancing it just doesn't work well (balancing the volumes are really difficult even at the best of times).

What's annoying is the volume keep going up and down... which made me confused as what to hear or what did I hear...
+Rx93NuGundam Yeah, that seems like one of the major criticisms of this video and I agree with it. The problem for me is that once I have more than six clips in my video editor, my laptop no longer renders in real time and so I have to make guesses to things like the sound level. I need a better computer lol.

Chees, and even though this reaction mashup is a bit rubbish, I still like it a little bit because it's easier to hear the reactor's for once lol

One of the biggest issues is when reactor's have the trailer volume on very loud. The moment I put their video into the mashup, it ends up drowning out everyone else. A lot of people also speed up their videos which really makes syncing these things a pain.

lol, yeah I know what you mean mate. I have seen professionals using autogate to great effect but I can't figure out how they get the levels right. The problem with reaction videos is that they have the trailer audio so loud that when I mix their clips with other reactors, it became difficult to hear individuals. I'm not giving up yet as I still have a couple of ideas. Thanks for the feedback however, I really appreciate it. :)

I would like to see this video done again with better audio! Please put the audio from your previous videos in this one and make it cleaner!
That's a fair comment mate. Thing is, I can't undo it. Also, technically, the audio here is clearer because you can hear more of the reactors. The problem however is that the audio volume levels need much better balancing for when reactors make a sound and unfortuantely that is beyound my patience/skillset. It was a fun experiement either way, keeps the mashups interesting for me. I appreciate you taking the time to provide feedback as that's the only way I get to find out what people like or dislike. Rock on :)

+konohahurricane07 That's why most of the comments are negative on my experiment with the autogate audio method. The plus side is that you can actually hear the reactor's a lot clearer than you normally would in a reaction mashup. Once you get beyond 6 clips the audio gets really distorted. But I understand, and accept, the criticism :)

Whilst it is possible to get the original audio back (I was just reading up on that actually) it would take so long to achieve that I don't think it'd be worth it. Don't worry, I got the message, people don't like this version of the autogated method for making the audio clearer. :)

The trailer is really good, awesome job with the mashup as always.. But I didn't like the new sound approach.

Nah mate, that's the thing about the autogated method on my computer... can't undo it because there's so many edits to audio and the undo functionality doesn't go back that far. It was just an experiement. The end result wasn't what I had hoped for but at least you can hear some of the reactor's better than you usually can in one of my mashups :)

Cali Méro That does seem to be the general consensus. The odd thing is, the more I listen to this, the more I prefer it to my other non-autogate audio mixes. I think it'd work if I could somehow remove the sudden changes in volume.
