Thank you. Do you recommend putting a tarp below the air floor mattress to protect it?
The air floor seems pretty durable and is probably more durable than most tarps. The first line of protection would be to make sure you don't have any sharp sticks for rocks under it but it still wouldn't hurt to throw a tarp down to reduce wear and keep the air floor cleaner. I was camping in the Acacia tent without the air floor last weekend and I put a tarp under the tent. When I packed up, the tent floor was clean underneath but the tarp was filthy. It was nice just hosing the tarp off at home without getting the whole back tent out. That same logic pertains to the air floor.
Q #1) Are you sleeping directly on the air base with just a sleeping bag, or adding additional padding? I wanted to buy the Air floor base an try it out in my basement to test that for myself....but Acacia tells me that would void the return policy....If I took it out camping for a week I understand, but just to test it? So, know way of knowing unless other like yourself have a strong opinion one way or another. We are use to using 18 inch airbeds with a foam topper. Q #2) If someone walks on the air base, are other sleepers going to feel the air base bouncing and bobbing? Another thing I wanted to test but cannot. Acacia makes it hard to be a buyer.
The air floor is pretty firm. I haven't noticed any bounciness on it. I typically inflate to 5psi so I could go even firmer. I typically use my memory foam camping mattress on it but you could sleep right on it if you like a firm surface. You definitely don't feel the lumps in the ground.
$450 for the floor alone, no thank you.
