Brian Setzer is an amazing musician. Playing the guitar that well - awesome. Singing at the same time - amazing. Jumping around like a loon at the same time? Impossible. But there he is doing it.
I used to really like these guys & somewhere along the road I lost them. Thank goodness for youtube, or I might never have found them again. Oldies station here never plays there tunes !
Back in the day, every girl I knew had a crush on Brian Setzer. To me he is one of the many underrated guitarists. He also has an excellent understanding of music.
Brian Setzer breathed new life into the Gretsch guitar scene back in the 80's. If Brian hadn't come into the spotlight, I'm thinking that Gretsch would've passed into the realm of, "Hey, do you remember..."
Yup, graduated HS in 1982 from Queens, NYC. The Stray Cats came from out on Long Island in the Town of Massapequa. They were the needed jolt of real 50’s style rockabilly after years of disco. New Wave was great but the virtuosity of Stetzer’s Gretch guitar reminded everyone where all this rock music came from. Even the Beatles admired Eddie Cochran!
NYC Queens 9/1979 my rommate/close as a brother went to Hurrah's in the city and saw Long Island's Bloodless Pharoahs. He said the guitar player was great and talked to him and he said his friend(me) would REALLY dig you...A couple months later with the help of Dave Edmunds but legit talent, Brian Setzer became a STAR!!!

35 years later I finally did it. I just made a video of Rock This Town on the 4th. I sing and play bass guitar. I rocked it hard. Check it out. It's my featured video right now. I even have on my Stray Cat t-shirt and I show my Stray Cat tattoo at the end. I think you'll like me.

That was a super strange thing because they had a great time playing rockabilly in the 80s. It was fresh and sounded like they wouldve been as good or better than most bands from the 50's.

Brian Setzer. Stray Cats was the best rockabilly band of the 80s.
Three kids that not only put rockabilly back on the map but made a younger generation LOVE it!!
So true ❤❤❤
These guys were one of a kind. They completely broke the mold. Sound so good live.
What I love is the fact that they're laying it down and watching funk and R&B royalty totally bewildered with what they're seeing and hearing. Badass.

Some of those older artist in the public are probably glad when they realize rock and roll is safe and good for one more generation

Great stuff indeed xxxx
First heard of these dudes in '79 or '80. Love three-person bands who can bring it.
The ‘Cats’ were an awesome group. And Setzer was/is a VERY underrated musician!! Great rockabilly sound!!
Setzer is a monster guitar player, very underrated indeed
Yoyoka’s drum cover of this is amazing.
Even Slim Jim Phantom wasn't brave enough to try and play the kick drum hopping up and down like her. lol

Stray Cats manages to be Rockabilly and punk at the same time. That's why I love this band so much.

If Brian hadn't come into the spotlight, I'm thinking that Gretsch would've passed into the realm of, "Hey, do you remember..."
Absolutely, another player regularly rocking a Gretsch is Billy Duffy of The Cult. That sound just can't be duplicated.
