- How fast can you change your strings? With Guitar Tech Keaton Rich
Keaton Rich and I decided to time how quickly we can change the guitar strings.
Not only just to change it quickly, but properly, because one of the guitars will be used at tonight's show!

Thank you for sharing these wonderful vlogs from your tour! You are one of my guitar heroes stay safe to you and your love ones! Keep rocking! From the Philippines! 💪
Aawww mental note to kick my ass later! Ooo I'm so scared...
How do you do the Floyd Rose To be in tune and all of this stuff specially when using the bar, cause I want to buy some guitar but has that FR and I'm like hesitant to just cause of the FR,I'm even searching for equivalents without it hehe
valeu Kiko
Foda...
Kiko is more stressed by changing strings than playing in front of thousands of people
Wow, the Senate is commenting! Long live the emperor!
true!
Your username goes well with the situation haha
I have never played in front of thousands of people, but I totally get how he feels 😅😅
the tittle should be: Guitar String Changing Any% Speedrun (Floyd Rose difficulty)
Facts 😂😂
lmao
I’d love to have a whole video of Keaton Rich changing strings slowly, explaining stuff, giving tips, etc. Just what we see here, but as a true lesson.
Keaton is cool!
While kiko changes strings in 7 minutes i take 30 minutes to put it wrong XD. Greetings from Chile kiko!
ami tambien me gusta el choripan

What has impressed me the most about you since I followed you is how nice a person you seem, always kind, respectful to people, don't change, the world would need more people like that, Greetings from Madrid!
Kiko, I admire how you are not afraid to let people see you make a mistake. No rock star ego and willingness to learn from others. You are a class act.
Only the professional's work with Kiko & Megadeth ! We have heard the tales and now we see the proof as well as hear it dudes! Keep these great vids going ! One of the greatest channels on tube land - thanks !
1 hour to change, clean and tune, each 2 months. I really enjoy the entire process. It's like a meditation for me. (Floyd Ibanez). Greetings from Nordeste 😅🤘
The most annoying part about changing strings is actually removing the old strings and roll them before throwing haha But to put new strings and do the tuning are like what you said... meditation. When the it's finished it's like entering heaven.
the last time I changed my strings was 10 months ago. Elixir strings dude, the best ones
@@Joao-py6rj I used to change them every week on 2-3 guitars at a certain point in time! And I don't even sweat that much. (Rarely any corrosion) Now, I just go by feel. I can do multiple shows on the same set. I don't remember the last string I broke.
I’d love to see a detailed explanation from the tech doing a complete set up
search for Thomann's video of John Petrucci's guitar tech doing that very thing.
@@t3hgir awesome, thank you for that info!

@@t3hgir thanks
Respect, guys. Nicely done! I hate changing strings, and my guitar doesn’t even have a locking nut or a Floyd Rose tremolo system
You should consider some locking tuners then! You can get a good aftermarket set from tone ninja for $50. They were a lifesaver for me.
Been playing Floyds for 30+ years; this video changed my life in nine minutes. XD
Still using Kiko's method since 2003 when I bought my Vigier Excalibur Custom 🤘🖤
How do you clean your fretboard? Between strings, I guess.
@@PastelComGini with kilo’s method it’s harder but with cotton swabs it’s possible..
Can you do a video on keaton setting everything up for a show, from the guitar setups to the rigs
Damn - Kiko's time was really good for a non-pro (tech).
Haha.. wow, Keaton's amazing. He's fast, considering Kiko buzzing around him and asking him questions. 😂This was a super fun video to watch
Can’t believe i just sat for 20 minutes to watch someone change strings.
So did I 😂
In 20 mins i would have finished 4 Ibanez RG's.
Kiko, I really have to say, as a new guitar player you've quickly become a real influence on me, you're style and technical abilities are inspiring enough, but these videos and your words about behind the scene info are absolute GOLD to me! Thanks man! I just adore Megadeth, have for so many years now and I am truly glad you are a part of it and it's been real fun getting to know you!!
Actually, without the tuning Keaton had everything done and the drill stopped winding at 6:45....
At that time, I'd probably just have finished taking off my strings... LOL..
Great Job!!!!
Can you see how good this is, a great guitarrist for great bands as Megadeth and Angra, doing things as a normal guy, with no egos, being always kind.
Keaton has to be great to be Kiko's tech!
I love changing strings. Maybe because I only change them once or twice a year. It's a pleasure.
I'd love to see more in depth how Keaton tunes a guitar with a FR + locking nut! Blown away by his 9 minutes... A string change on my FR guitar is a minimum 1-hour ordeal!
if you can see them Live, make sure you do. It was amazing!
Can’t believe he got that done in 9 minutes, I’ve been changing my strings on my floyd rose for about 5 hours now and barely got both e strings to stay in tune
just change one string at a time
Professional work of the Technician in guitar, successes in the Kiko concert
Great lesson, learn how to take care of your instrument by yourself, even if is greater to have someone else around to do it for you 🤟👍👍👍
I excel more in the "get distracted by everything possible" category while I'm changing my strings. Literally set a day aside to change out a couple guitars. I do some care/setup work when I do, but that still doesn't justify how long it takes me to do it.
I have enjoyed your videos so very much Kiko. Your honesty, and willingness to work hard is admirable. I'm a guitar tech. It was thoroughly fun to watch a rock star put their own strings on. This made my day. Peace to you, and your family from beautiful N.E. Oregon.
Wow, super fun ! Thanks for all this behind the scenes footage you share with us. Love it! 😁👍🇵🇷
Kiko as a guitar tech is such an incredible guitar player!!!
Love your vlogs!
Straight up impressive!
Wow! Mr Keaton is freakin awesome! 😃👍
Great content as always!
Kiko, great posts!
Kiko applies the highest technical approach to his string changing. 😁👍🏼 and 10/42’s are impressive! 😃 Excellent time Kiko! 🏆
New to the channel. Been playing bass since early 80s can’t change my p bass strings in 9 minutes lol. Such a great band. Dave surrounded himself with not only cream of the crop musicians but they all seam very down to earth no egos. I think that has rubbed off on Dave. Best wishes to you Kiko & the rest of the band from Buffalo New York.
this is fantastic
Kiko is full of fun. He loves hanging around with his team and have fun.
Thanks Kiko and Keaton. The only part I really hate about changing strings is the bleeding fingers. Every single time...
I didn't know about the tone trick with the tuner. Clever. Well, I have a cheap headstock tuner, so it won't work, but I'll try it using the computer.
kiko eres el puto amo, para mi de los mejores guitarristas de rock, saludos desde españa
Alleluia , depois de anos eu vi o Kiko trocando cordas kkkkkk gente como a gente kkkkk
Top show!.
Nice action ! 🤘🏽 🤘🏽 🤘🏽
Cortar as cordas facilita o processo de substituição das mesmas, mas bem que os músicos poderiam doá-las quando elas são trocadas ainda tão novas.
Ótimo ver esse tipo de vídeo, Kiko! Obrigado!
Good one!
I've tried at least three ways to do that and always feels more comfortable the way Kiko did (one string at the time).
Also want to try the way Tom Weber (EVH's guitar tech) do with a long T shape 3mm long allen wrench.
That will be when I have again a double locking guitar.
Just a comment from my point of view as a bike mechanic-ish: shorter allen wrenches are easier to handle on tight spots... but if there's space for a longer one is better to use it instead: more control and less chance to damage the head of the bolts.
Thanks Kiko, your channel is so much fun and we learn a lot.
I tried keaton way to chenge strings....not for time but using his method i was not just faster but the result was that it took me no time to tune and didn need to adjust the zero edge bridge after the change!!! Never stop learning 🤘🤘🤘
Valuable tip I learned over the internet a few years ago is to fine tune in this order to speed up the tuning stabilization in floyds: G > D > B > A > e > E.
Salve Kiko! Vídeo incrível! Se não for pedir demais, um vídeo mais detalhado até limpeza e cuidados essenciais com a guitarra seria maravilhoso! Grande abraço! 🤘🏽🤘🏽
Damn rolling off the high end while tuning to make it more accurate... amazing.
Can't love this man more.
nice tips here guys, cheers!
Wao! jeje i like this content kiko !
Keaton for the win!
Bravo Kiko :)
Boa esse é meu tesouro . Abraço KIKO ....
I'm with you, Kiko. I also don't like to change strings, at all. And I only do it every 3 months or so...
All your videos are pretty cool but this was fun too
Amazing!!!
I gotta try that trick with rolling off the tone knob when tuning!
I also hate changing strings but I love when it's done and I have nice fresh strings.
muito legal tesouro. muito bom mesmo!
Gostei. Aprendi 2 jeitos de trocar as cordas que eu nunca tinha pensado.
Não sei se é impressão minha, mas senti que o Kiko entrou disposto a vencer essa disputa. haha
Thanks guys, welcome Keaton..appreciate alot.. both total speedracer 🎸🏁🏁🎸
I always do one at a time. For 38 years now. Just my way is all. I also run my strings backwards leaving the ball at the headstock 🤘👍
That do be an impressive skill, restringing a guitar in under 9 minutes
Specially with a floating bridge.
not really, once he blocks the bridge it's basically a hardtail. if you dont clean the guitar it's takes a very short time.
On my Ibanez RG's it takes me 5 mins per guitar to restring without any fretboard cleaning. The things that keep my time down are I leave the ball end at the tuning post and cut lengths as each string is fed to the saddle. I have been restringing 6 inline strat style necks for over 30 years so 5 mins to me is average. The cleaning is what takes time because i like to polish the frets and do the fingerboard with conditioner.
Che crin kiko!!!
😂😂😂
Great, guys!!!
Hello Kiko and Keaton , you can also install the six strings on the bridge first and after you finish with the tuners.Just two step.
master kiko. should upload a video showing all his guitars since the beginning of his career ..washburn-esp-tagima-ibanez
Omg this was awesome 😂
stress yes,i use the ball end on the floyd on the tuners but it always takes at least 30 minutes.were the strrings staying in tune when locked down.
I thought it was interesting, that you wanted to listen to it, rather than just rely on the pretty flashing lights, what a great ear, I can't really notice if its a little flat, but if its sharp I can hear it not sounding good to me.
damn, that's a pro at work right there
Excuse my language, but I fucking love that red Ibanez. It's killer! I just don't know about those Ibanez trems that are new. I love the Edge trem. I have the low pro on my Jaoanese S series and the Esge on my Japanese RG, but I need one of those red Ibanez gujtars like you use in this video. Very cool. ♥️🤟♥️🤟
You should explain that ESP locking string mode in detail ;)
This video is like watching someone change guitar strings for 20 minutes. 8/10 xD
I do it like you, Kiko! Ball ends at the tuners!
Using Kiko's technic I can picture me forgetting that I changed a string and cutting it again 😅
Oh no!
I'm glad to see that I'm not the only person who looses my tools on the bench in front of me while changing strings
Doido, trocaria nunca nem em 1hr. Rápido até na acessória. MG BR Vai kiko
It feels like a F1 race!
Toca aquela!
Legal demais!!!
The only guitar with a tremolo that I have is a Musicman Luke 3 (vintage floating tremolo), and I'm never stressed when changing strings. It literally takes 3 minutes. I've been interested in getting a Floyd Rose guitar next, but watching this video sure makes me have second thoughts. People aren't kidding when they're whining about changing strings on their FR systems 🥴.
If you put the effort into learning how to do it right, it's really not hard. The trick is to block the bridge off so it can't move, that lets you tune up normally. And if you changed tunings or gauges making your bridge go out of whack, it's a simple adjustment of the claw in the back with a screw driver. Ben Eller has a good video on it.
Hahaha, kiko marketing part, with a funny cute music LOL
Love you, Kiko lindo!!!!!!!!!!!
Parabenss
I gave up on tuning the Floyd (tried to go from drop B (how I set it up initially) to standard C#) so I hardtailed it now I can go from either tuning easily.
Never in my wildest dreams I thought it can be done so fast..
Awesome ..and we all
hate changing strings too ....
Funny, I just changed my strings today, we have that in common. Maybe tomorrow I'll play like you :p
I feel so stressed after watching this video! 🤣
Legal, mas ainda ia demorar um tempinho para ficar totalmente afinada, pois ele só estava começando a puxar a corda mi grave, e teria que fazer nas outras 5 cordas. Floyd Rose é um verdadeiro pesadelo pra afinar
I've always wondered the importance of the height of the bridge...i usually take a micro-towel and clean the frets before putting on strings. Just an FYI.
