LiDAR under dense tree canopy.

LiDAR is an active sensor, a beam of light(IR laser) is emitted and the time it takes to return to the sensor is measured. Of these millions of laser returns many penetrate the small gaps in vegetation creating a 3D model of the environment, including understory, and ground surfaces. LiDAR is the best way to model ground elevations under dense canopy.
