I love Atalaya. I’ve been there several times. My first time as a child before it was open for tours. Archer and Anna helped the local economy as well, by hiring local construction crews to build Atalaya. I believe they were also the first to bring electric to that area. Archer was a scholar who studied Spanish history, hence the home’s design.
I’ve been to Brookgreen Gardens, it is a beautiful botanical garden with acres of flowers, plants, trees and fountains. The wife was a professional bronze sculptor and the horse and panther sculptures are excellent. Her bronzes are all over the property. Well worth seeing.
Grew up camping there. It's pretty cool. Across the street is, as cool. The State Park is fun. Good beaches (as I recall) and Brookgreen Gardens are across the road. We were still kicking up empty .50BMG casings in the 1990's.
Atalaya was a winter retreat for the New Yotk based Huntington's in part to help with Anne's tuberculosis symptoms. This would have been a time when "traveling to the beach" would have been almost unheard of so it would have been quite the journey to get there and then very secluded and distant once there. The tower is a water tower allowing the property to have running water. As was experienced by the host the masonry construction would assist greatly in making it comfortable in the hot season for whoever was there.
A museum I would like you to visit and video is the USS Orleck in Jacksonville, FL. My dad served on the Destroyer during Vietnam. I was able to tour it with my dad. Amazing to hear his stories from his time on the ship.
I liked Anna right up to the point I saw the tiny little cages where she had full grown bears sequestered, to be trundled out on a whim when the creavtive juices were flowing. Cringe...
Very institutionalized looking place, in fact prison in appearance!! Wouldn't want this place if they gave it to me!! Creepy!! Now the grounds look very inviting!!!
Chris, You present so well, but Beautiful, maybe, but it seems claustrophobic and sterile too me. Perhaps it looked totally different when it was furnished. Interesting but not my pile of bricks:) Cheers, Rik Spector

Fascinating, Chris. Thank you! It is further proof that the abundance of American eccentricity is not limited to the current century.

I grew up in SC and just 3 minutes of watching this video and I’m hooooooot!
Beautiful place. Think you're right, peacocks would be a nice addition 😊
Sounds like you were having fun avoiding the kids.
Avoiding kids is ALWAYS fun.
😂
They obviously were not told to use their inside voices...what noisy brats..

Love that you're in my neck of the woods! Well sort of, same state anyway. Murrell's Inlet is beautiful
I visited there a couple of decades ago while vacationing up on Lake Marion. The scultures are across the road and away a bit from the estate.
Hi Chris!! You’re in our neck of the woods now, we live in North Myrtle Beach!! Great Video! We have visited this location as well
that king's pizza is something else 😋
Greetings from down the street in Charleston! 😊

Fantastic video!!
Very cool !
you came to the area during the busy season. we locals avoid as much traffic as possible
Chris reminds me of a model from the price is right, showing of the interior walls.
LMAO 🤣
Blocking bathroom access saves having to clean and maintain all those toilets. I'm sure there are some toilets accessible to visitors.
Hello, Chris. Hope your week is going okay for you cool video ✨️👌
Hey, thanks
Interesting
cool beans ty
Hello Chris 😊✌️
Brutal brick construction,it has a total prison vibe. Beautiful outside area.
Lived here all my life and never knew this existed
I've been close to that place years' back, from what I read/learned, it's supposedly haunted.
This house mimics ancient Roman homes which the family adored. The only home in America built off true ancient roman model.
I liked Anna right up to the point I saw the tiny little cages where she had full grown bears sequestered, to be trundled out on a whim when the creavtive juices were flowing. Cringe...
I have never seen a place like that before. It's so great they keeping it up. So much better when kids learn their manners🫤
The building is totally nuts. It is only surviving because the state took it over with the grounds.
Could be the case
Whether it's nuts or not maintaining the building is going to cost a lot. Why wasn't I born rich and eccentric?
Peacocks and flamingos
Sounds like its operating as a daycare now lol
That my friend is a neutered Old World building. Interesting story, tho
Where have you been?
There is no feeling of warmth, or any feeling whatsoever! I take that back, stark, yes a real stark feel.
Who wants a tour with screaming kids ?
👍🏻✌🏻
Love yr Content Chris,so interesting. 😊
Very institutionalized looking place, in fact prison in appearance!! Wouldn't want this place if they gave it to me!! Creepy!! Now the grounds look very inviting!!!
Isn't that beach there AWESOME!?
I bet bathrooms blocked off because you know someone would try to use them. Just a thought.
Amazing what one can do with the capture of other sentiment beings for there disposal, when one has to much money and diagnose with a good illness.
Run like hell from those unruly children!!!
I can’t find you on igram I looked lot times her
Aqua Teen Hunger Force!
Adam the Woo visited this site last year and the park where the Sculptures are!
