So I'm literally sitting here with a tumbler of Tullamore and a cigar, transported back to the 1930's by this child's voice! It doesn't get better than this.
I was told she wrote this for her family. Amazing.
She writes the music and the lyrics, and she arranges all her songs. This one is about how her family surrounds her and protects her through this journey with her music. Her first original song, What Is Life?, was written at age 11. My favorite version is the lyric video that was on her first album by the same name.

I wouldn't presume anything was beyond Angelina at 12. Shield has always been my favorite song of hers. You and I hear this song differently. You say cabaret .. to me it is a prayer. I have always heard it that way.

The fact that knocks me out, is the difference between her age and the passion in her singing!!!!!! I started to believe that she lived another life and gathered experiences that brings out in this life. I dont know she is a big mystery to me. So rare, everything about her. She makes every song her very own. If she wrote "Shield" it's even richer than her covers. This shows dynamic range beyond any contemorary singer. And yet I feel we have only touched the small portion of her vocal treatments. She's a real star!

She said, "When I look at my passport I feel like a 12 year old." lol. Then she sang the song you just showed.

Angelina has been known to correct an orchestra accompanying her, so she does understand the different instruments and arrangements. I can't say for sure, but she may be capable of doing the musical arrangement as well. She does re-arrange vocals like a champ.

If I understand it Angelina wrote this about her mother and her grandmother how they protect her like the line forgive me for all that I am she knows what a burden her ability puts on her family now they've had to move to Los Angeles I'll make sure they were not used to living and the United States she realizes the sacrifices that our family has had to make because of her ability and she wrote the song to show how grateful she is

This for me is an exceptional song, for the music, for the lyrics, for how well balanced it's and to finish because it is made by a 12 year old girl. If you think about it, the subject of the texts is certainly not what every twelve year old thinks, but it is natural for her instead to understand that she is still very young, even if unique, and therefore she needs a shield, between her and the world, that can easily ruin or destroy her, just as it has happened to many talented and young artists, even among those she admire, such as Avicii, Amy, Whitney. This is why I believe that, after all, although there is no official confirmation, the lyric are referring to her mother and perhaps also to her grandmother, they are the ones who defend she, in particular (I think) from the dangers of the entertainment industry.

There is just no understanding of this unbelievable talented young lady...no explanation.
Everybody in the music industry already knows Angelina. And everything is up to her of she will go full throttle with regards to her singing career. She's not yet a full time artists as compared to other UA-cam stars. She still has her education as her priority. But I don't think it will be a long wait now. The pandemic we are facing now just slowed everything. And that includes Angelina's pace. And yes she wrote the song Shield with the help of 3 others. It was known for the longest time that she wrote this when she's 12. But a short video clip just came with poor audio quality. She's singing shield at 10 years old and the song perhaps is in its early form.

I am mesmerized, by Angela, her voice, her talent, she is simply amazing! I truley enjoy and love listening and watching her perform!
One of the things I was a little confused about in the beginning was when she says "forgive me for all that I am" not for what she has done but for what she is. But then I heard if this is correct that she saw what becoming a singer (that is what she is) has put problems on her parents especially her mom. It amazes me that a 12-year-old notices the sacrifices that were made for her becoming a singer. It makes me admire her even more.

Lynette Pascua. Yes now that you mentioned it, it kind of hits home quite a sad sinking feeling. I here what you’re saying and they all are in such a catch 22 situation. I have often tried to imagine the scenarios into how they cope with it. Angelina is such a preciously rare phenomenon and she did not exactly ask for it to blow up that big and there is absolutely no reason she should ask for forgiveness for that. That is just absurd if that is in-fact what she is doing in the song. Her poor mother is evidently fighting her fingers to the bone (for good reason of course) to keep Heaven and hell from crushing her in the middle and at this tender age it wil do just that. I just pray she keep those precious feet where they belong.

I think the pop singers that sign with record labels lose theirselves. They are pushed to do what somebody else chooses for them and perform when and where they are told. They lose their autonomy. I think that is when they start sliding into trouble.
Angelina isn't going to lose her autonomy. I recently read there is a song she recorded and after she realized the meaning she regretted doing it. The musicians refuse to let her change the words and she refuses to sign off so it can be published. Unfortunately some one leaked it on on UA-cam. These are the thoughts behind what I said. You are right, it is extraordinary someone that young has that depth of thought.

Thank you, Lars Morten. I see many say that the shield is her mum, she has never confirmed that anywhere I can see. In an interview she was a little cryptic, but I understand the closest people around her was her shield, her life guardians. Her whole family. Its also touching when she sing "forgive me for what I am". I see that as her wish and road to become a superstar. And for that, I am sure her family forgive her.

She was very humble to be there, and with tear in her eye she was full of respect for Simon. Very touching. In her early days, in some interview she was looking at her mum, to see if her answer was okey. Right there we knew she would be a very caring and loving person 💙

While Angelina apparently participated in composing the melody, I have no doubt she took a strong role in the arrangement as she does in most of her music. She knows what she wants and what works for her.

Angelina wrote the lyrics on this one, and helped with the music (you can see the credits for the others involved at 2.30 of this video). Much like "shield" transported you to a cabaret bar... "What is Life" will transport you to a smoky jazz club in the 40's. Also being a pianist, you will probably appreciate the piano work of Dylan Meek (a young grammy nominated artist). ...also I believe the acoustic "What is Life" (in the link above) is free from copyright. I have been hoping you will do it at some point.
“What is Life” is a fabulous composition. She is a musical genius and oh what a superb vocalist! I hope I live long enough to go to one of her live concerts one day-that would be so mind-blowing!

As always, great reaction to Angelina, and yes her originals are just wonderfull. I belive she had some co-writers in this one as it comes to the music. I feel confident that the lyrics are all her own. These matches up so well to the lyrics of her two earlier songs, "What is life" and "Oslo", as it comes to lyrical theme. As she did the music by herself for those earliest two, they comes out a bit more jazzy than "Shield". I must say I love all three of them, they each have theire own character, and the music goes so incredible well allong with the mood of her lyrics.

I can`t wait to join you in so many of her wonderfull moments, but I must mention her performance of "A Song For A", (composed for her to sing, by Nico Cartosio). Sadly it is not a live performance, only the recorded version that was made for Cartosio`s album. Still, a totaly amazing performance and yet another genre for Angelina`s long list of genres.

Angelina's vocals are God tier! Hello hope your well, it's been a while since you have done a reaction to AJ and I am only here to suggest that you listen to her new single "love don't let me go". She has grown so much for her 17 years that it seems an impossibility but here she is getting better and better. You know way back when she did her first performance on Norway's got talent the brunette lady judge said to Angelina "you are music" it wasn't until a couple years later after hearing he make that comment that I fully comprehended what she had meant by that statement. Hats off to that judge who herself has a gifted ear! Just incredible!
"Oslo" and "What is life?" are the two other songs written by her(at the age 11). You should really check them out. "Oslo" is my absolute favorite. I`m 57 yo and I have never been so impressed by any singer/songwriter before I heard Angelina.
I know you reacted to the song "Creep", sang by Haley Reinhart with PMJ. Angelina definitely has one of those voices, like Haley, that one would immediately recognize. This is even true when Angelina is covering any singer of any style. Keep em coming!

Another super reaction from the GreyWolf. She has a new album of all originals that was already to have been released, but the pandemic has caused that to be delayed. She has no new covers on YT, and I don't know what the future holds for her. I don't know if she's still in the U. S., or if she has returned to Norway. Perhaps someone can give that info. This demo was leaked when she was 12, almost 13, but I think she was younger when she recorded it. Because the lyrics at the end implied suicide, she was not happy that it was leaked. And she has declared that she will never sing this version of the song again. And I respect her for that. However, if this was released as a single from an album that was being professionally promoted, I believe it would zoom to the top of the charts. Alas, we will never know. Best wishes.

It's right that Angelina was 12 when she first published this song, and also in this performance, but I just recently saw a video clip from 2016 of Angelina sining this song ... *when she was 10!*
If you hadn't been so baffled by the song, you would have noticed that there are 3 other names listed as co-writers for the song.
I'm supposing she written the lyrics and the melody, and probably had a lot of ideas regarding the main structure of the arrangement and how she wanted it to sound in order to convey the proper feelings, and then had some help with actually materializing it in regards to orchestration, sound effects and things like that

That short interview is really a gem. She sings the beginning of "Diamonds are forever" in that interview. What a mesmerising performance!!

Angelina helps with the arrangements to all the songs she sings and I was just told she makes her own clothes as well....
Her grandmother Mery Zamani started writing poems and painting at the early age of 9. She is a full-time artist who has published several books and paintings. She is a great role model for Angelina. So for me, it's no surprise that she's already writing good lyrics. The lyrics and melody for "Shield" are written in a collaboration between Angelina, Ronny Janssen, Aksel Carlson and Frida Amundsen!

This would be a great Bond song! Angelina absolutely is a true genius. She is a Chamaeleon and becomes all things to everyone with her Voice. She is a super human possessing abilities far beyond what we have heard from what we thought were the upper echelons of our most talented artists,..but, she truly does surpass the limits and abilities of what we thought we could obtain or reach.
I believe this is a realistic view of this young woman. Someone with her abilities comes along only once in maybe a century or two.
She is a beautiful and rare gem and
should be put on a pedestal to sparkle and dazzle with her beautiful luminous presence and voice for all to see and enjoy for generations to come.

It is still availible in her home country :) Thank you for another great reaction. As for something new to react to, looks like you have not done this one, and very few has of the reactors. The one i recomend is a live performance with Alan Walker when she was 10 years old. Here you actualy get 2 songs of her singing with Alan Walker on this live performance. (Video is called: Angelina Jordan sings at Alan Walker is Heading Home LIVE STREAM).
Her first 2 original songs, What is Life & Oslo, were written when she was 11 & she wrote both the lyrics & the melody. Both are on her 2018 album "It's Magic." She wrote the lyrics for Shield when she was 12, but she had 3 other songwriters help her with the melody that is very "James Bondish." Shield was released as a single. She continues to tweak this song & her most recent performance of it at an outdoor concert in Norway in July 2019 is even better that this, IMHO. My favorite original is her very first song, What is Life, in the acoustic version. It's amazing!!!

hello greywolf all the songs are hers or she is all the songs (er) or maybe the reverse. as soon as she starts to sing the world around stops, she controls the time, its duration its speed etc. another song in the low tone of elvis presley "Are you lonesome tonight" is a real musical delight of interpretation to listen if you like this serious tone hi to you and all your subscribers and to others also in particular.
