    ‘Type-A RCBO’s’ strictly speaking does not provide protection from DC components on the AC supply, the TypeA RCD will trip when there is a DC component on the supply, it’s important because the DC component can saturate the RCD protection magnetic cores and effectively render them useless. An effect also known as ‘blinding’ and could either prevent the RCD from operating or reduce the sensitivity resulting in a dangerous situation. So Type-A RCD’s improve protection in the presence of DC supply components from typically EV chargers.

    • @tcpnetworks
      @tcpnetworks 3 роки тому +1

      Exactly! I think it was a mis-speak situation.

    • @rayc1503
      @rayc1503 3 роки тому

      Interesting why is it that type A RCBO's aren't as effective as Type A RCD's? I know that an RCBO protects against residual currents and that RCBO's have the above plus over current protection.
      Is there any reference to this? I'd like to learn a little more 👍🏼.

    • @G6EJD
      @G6EJD 3 роки тому +1

      @@rayc1503 there will (should) be no difference between an RCBO and RCD in terms of protection from unbalanced current and hence an Earth / Fault leakage, but some brands of RCBO proved to be unreliable when they were released for sale, gaining a reputation for offering worst protection or frequent false trips, brands such as Hager were good from the start. They should both pass testing at identical levels.

    It's a poor man's Timtam Slam if you've only got a KitKat. You can also get pretty good results with a penguin (I go diagonals) but if you can get hold of genuine Australian Timtams, it's another level

    Are you sure, charger needs an RCD Type A ( Typ A is the "normal" one, Standard., the old one Type AC is outdated for new installations.
    Charger needs an Typ B which protects on pure DC also.
    But most times there ist an Type B protection in the wallbox itself, then you need only an Type A for the supply line.
