Dear ultimate tech? It appears that you have plumbed the water cut to come down from your roof and then go underground to the return lines probably for the pool. Do you lose much heat from that water while sending those lines 15 or 20 feet underground? How cold is the ground during March, April, and October and November?
The water is actually pumped up the solar panels, not down by gravity. The viewing window in the other pipe shows the flow arrow pointing down to the pool. The drain valve tap is on the pump up pipe because it is connected to the bottom of the panels and will therefore drain the water easier.
Hi, a coupe of things I didn't really understand... Why won't more panels heat faster? And why turn it off in the winter... Wrong it get somewhat warm?
More panels won't make it warmer faster. If that was the case every house with a pool would have the entire roof covered. The reason I turn it off is it won't get the pool even to 65 degrees in the winter so what's the point. And you don't want the pipes to freeze as well. Remember the temp of the pool is the same as the temp outside at night. If it's 50 degrees outside then that's the pool temp. No solar pool heater can raise the temp by 30 degrees in a single day.
I’m in Vegas too and today getting my solar installed, and this is the panel being used, how is it working for you a year later? Also when are you able to start swimming? April? And done ? September? Thanks
The heater works great as designed. We start swimming in late April or early may and swim unit late September or early October. Our pool water is 90 plus degrees and now the heater is turned off. It will kick on at 86 degrees. Enjoy the warm water and thank you for watching.

@@UltimateTechHub lol that is who we used!!! I talked to all the bigger companies and didn’t really feel a good vibe so I went on my community FB to ask for recommendations and everyone recommended them. Great to know they did good
Hey I had Naylor come and drain my solar for winter, now I don’t remember how to turn it on for summer, do you just turn the box on? I have the same setup as you.
Close the drain valve at the bottom of the pipe. It looks like a typical water connection like the one on the side of your house. Then turn on the heater to auto. Set it at 90 degrees and have fun!
Great video! Quick question. The valve was never turned off for the winter season here in Florida and I was wondering what to do. Should I turn my system off and drain all the water from the valve? Kind of new to this. We just took over my in-laws house and was never walked through the steps on how to work these panels. They have both passed on so asking them is out of the question.
How does the thermostat work? Does it wait for the panels to reach a certain temp then redirect the water through them or is water running through them continuously? I have a very similar box, it says "Heating", but sometimes the heating light goes off. Does that mean the panels have reached the desired temp OR the panels reach the desired temp? I'm pretty sure the panels get a lot hotter than the water. After a while it seems like the water flushes out of the system and the Heating light comes back on. Can you (or anyone) explain a little more about the mechanisms? Thanks!
It’s a differential control. The turn on differential on a GL-235 is 4 degrees. When the solar sensor on the roof (or wherever the panels are mounted) is 4 degrees warmer than the pool water, pool water is diverted to the solar system. Water flows continuously through the panels and piping at a flow rate of about 5gpm per panel.
Is there a guide to how to size a solar heater? I have 200 feet of 1 1/4" pipe in a plywood box that is not big enough to make a difference. My pool holds 13 cubic meters of water roughly 15 cubic yards.
My heater is set for 85, but the pool temp has been stuck at 70 for over a week. Outdoor temp have been in the mid-seventies to mid eighties. Night time temps are low to mid 50's. I can hear when water flushed through the pipes and the heating light is on, so I believe the system is functional. Is this normal to heat so slowly?
Yes this is normal. Your heater is sending warm water to your pool. The issue is the nighttime temperature. Your pool will cool to the nighttime temperature. The heater can increase pool temps up to 10 degrees per day if it's in the mid 90s. Once nighrs are at 70 or 75 your pool will get warm quick.
All I can picture is the similarity to when you turn on your garden hose and it comes out hot but then cools after a minute or so. Is this not the same where eventually the heater isn't enough to heat the water sufficiently and cold water comes out?
Nope the water heater on the roof is large enough that the water circulated in the heater gets hot then goes back down the roof into the pool. We have a inground cleaner and the water coming out is very warm. Pool temps are around 80 to 82 now. June and July will be about 90.
@@UltimateTechHub - thanks for the reply. I read in another post where you mention running it parallel to split up the distance. What would you say is the total distance the water travels from input to output of the heater? Maybe running too long a distance is what contributes to cooling off like the water hose example I mentioned?
So basically in the winter this system dsnt work at all... isn't that when you would want the system to heat the pool becuase it's cold. Why would I want the heat the pool in the summer it's all really hot...this system works a$$ backwards useless.
It heats the pool in the spring and fall when it's not usually warm enough to swim. It adds a couple of extra months to the swim season. Thank you for watching.
@@UltimateTechHub the sun isn't ass strong in the winter ,fall,or spring like it is in the summer so in order to heat your pool from like 60F to 75F or even 80 it would take a very long time to hit that temp when it's cold outside you would need hot day and a solar blanket to keep the heat.
@@ralphbarrios590 It worked for us. We swam in October and in April. As long as the low temps stay around 68 to 70 the pool gets to 80 degrees or more. We live in Las Vegas and the sun is always hot even in the spring and fall.

Only drain the system before winter and leave the valve open all winter. If it's warm now then no need to drain it.

To you have a solar blanket to keep the heat in overnight? It will really help
@@ddtuss2585 No, I really want to get one though. How much are they on average?
Without a solar blanket overnight you'll lose your daytime gains in those low temperatures.
So you can’t run them at winter even in vegas/Phoenix?
You can but you have to run the pump constantly when it's at or below freezing.
