Yes, it works for 9mm punch. But how about 1mm diameter punch? You won't be able to insert a sandpaper in such a small hole. Also how about 15mm or 30mm punch tool? Most drills accept max. 10mm diameter rods, how to instert such a big diameter inside a drill machine?
It would be great if you did a voice-over with detailed step by step explanation to what you're doing, what materials used and the tool you used. Any pros and cons to doing this the punches. Anyway, this is indeed SCARY SHARP! Almost none I have seen so far (sellers) sell that sharp of a punch. My guess is that the sheer amount of effort to do this to each punch would cost more than double or almost the price of the punch itself?
you got it right, Toby. as I often make tools or sharpen tools, I can strongly feel that sharpening tools matters a lot in terms of time and cost. if the punch was made with super high quality steels, it requires even more tooling and sanding, causing more time and cost. so each punch will cost a lot more expensive. I bought those cheap punches around USD 7. it was dull. If company fully sharpens one punch like that, I bet it will cost at least USD 30 to 35. I will cover that in separate video, Thanks Toby for great input.
2/19/23 nice video. What was the van of spray and what was the material used to sharpen ? I could hear you with all of the hammering in the background.
I assume you're just wet sanding with water on that emory cloth. Please list the grits used. And I agree with the others. the background punching is quite annoying. a simple narration would be better
Excellent video! I have always wondered how to sharpen these punches. This is a very clever method. Thank you for sharing. It was scary when you sharpened the inside!!!! :D
I have to stop watching your video . All that Knocking woke My cats thinking somebody is at my door . Yo got to filter you back noises when shooting a video
No detail whatsoever about grit of sanding paper, too much distracting noise, no elaborate narration of process. Only the use of a drill as tool was educational material.
All of my recommended lists are here: www.amazon.com/shop/leathertoolz

just started the video and I thought you hand-punching the leather was a joke. incredible work, I'm so excited to watch the rest!
very cool to hear how much quieter it got at the end, since the surface was so smooth. this is such great knowledge, thank you!
Love the process shown, but had to turn sound off due to being driven crazy by the hammering in the background. Voice-over may have helped.

The disclaimer should run all the video long))! Used this method. Spinning hole punch cutts fingers sooo easy!

So it's like sharpening a pencil, except with sandpaper and a scary drill ☺
What grit sandpaper are you using?
0:30 Thirty seconds in and I'm like "Answer the dang door!!!" hahaha
Great way for sharpening round punches, but I wonder if this would work for oval punches, has anyone tried it?
rod jones no way
it would work when it's done properly. but there is high chance that it will ruin oval punches too.
Ok that’s awesome but how do you do it if you don’t own a DRILL PRESS??????
Use a regular drill. Hold it steady at an angle to sand paper taped to a flat surface.
Does it have to be Wasabi flavoured water? (asking for a friend) ;)
🤣 🤣 🤣
Guess I have to go sharpen my punches! Good video my dude
Great video. thanks very much for the this. now I can sharpen all the cheap punch tools I got
Glad to help!
i needed this! Thank you!
You're so welcome!
He doesn't say a word about what he's doing. How is this helpful to anyone?
Why do you sand it so far up , how thick of leather do you plan to punch ? Wouldn’t 1/4 inch be high enough? Thanks
I wanted to do it for no reason! ; )
Nice hammer 👌
You made it too dangerously sharp! S.W.A.T and FBI already knocking the door!
Damn i aint got no wasabi flavoured oil 🥵
That's Awesome!

Very boring, could have at least talked a little bit though the steps
Were you making it from scratch or what???
Cut the hammer and add an explanation and why polish the shaft when only the tip.cuts? Poor video!😫😫
A bit boring
