    The conversation about working class people getting into the arts is a really important one for me. When I was at primary and secondary school (which isn't that long ago) I got free violin lessons for a good few years as part of a programme that was aiming to get people from working class areas like mine into music in a meaningful way. Now that same secondary school has switched from being a school with a performing arts focus to a school with an IT focus (I say this like the arts department wasn't underfunded even when it was allegedly the focus). And now the music department has been moved into a room that isn't big enough to swing a cat in and isn't given the budget for instruments. A real shame.

    • @lwaves
      @lwaves 5 років тому +2

      That just shows how much of a 'token' and meaningless thing it was to the school. They weren't doing it for the good of the pupils, but only to jump on the current popular bandwagon of the time. Once that focus changes, the school quickly drops it and switches focus to. Typical.

    Great interview with David,a very intelligent and interesting guy..I would have liked Richard to have asked him what he thought of popstar Morrissey when he met him,apparantly David did the voice for the audio book for him!

    i've really warmed to rhlstp in recent weeeks and to herring as a host and comedian. morrisey is a great guest. after they chatted about accents, i was trying to pin morrisey's accent and couldn't decide if he was soft scots, soft irish, or soft northern english. was surprised to read he's a scouser!

    Firstly bizarre that anyone would dislike this on the basis that if you listen to RHLSTP then you know the format (see previous 150+ episodes), and also somehow people can still end up arguing with each other about bollocks.

    I was almost blown away when I googled The Cobbler and saw, in that IMDb/Rotten Tomatoes/Roger Ebert preview box, a 9 under Rotten Tomatoes! It was only when I saw the % symbol after it that the world made sense again.
    I thought to myself, 'It's a rare day you see a single digit rating from Rotten Tomatoes'. Then I looked up Basic Instinct 2. 7%.

    ONE SUMMER

  • @NxDoyle
    @NxDoyle 5 років тому

    The other day The Walking Dead crossed my mind for the first time in ages. I'd watched it through Season 4, enjoying it, and was living in America when Season 5 started. So it was with some anticipation that I started in on the season premiere.
    But there was something about the first ten minutes, the specific nature of the violence in that short time, that made me say no. I turned it off and haven't watched since.
    Rather than simply download what I hadn't seen, I googled the show to 1) see if it was still going and 2) get some sense of whether it was worth the effort. Because to be honest, at the point I stopped watching, I thought there were perhaps two seasons worth of good material left before it ran its course.
    Seeing the expression "jumped the shark" more than once in that search convinced me that it was a road not worth travelling.
