I've had a similar path, but with one detour. I got the VI, immediately realized I wanted interchangeable lenses, so sold the VI and got the X-T5 (same sensor, a few more dials), and then almost immediately got the GRiiiX (40mm lens) for pretty much ALL the reasons you chose yours. I'm using the X-T5 as my MAIN camera, but always have the GRiiiX in my pocket for a fast shot and a stealth shot at that. Great post, GB. :) I'm going to subscribe so I can stick around and see what you're up to next.
About to purchase myself a GR IIIx... I have my Sony APS-C system for anything specific, but I can't wait to have something this compact for EDC. Doesn't matter how small mirrorless bodies are getting, the lens and mounting system just takes up too much space for it to fit in a pocket. I really wish it had weather sealing, and I wish I didn't have to worry about the dust issue.. but I think I can live with those things considering there really isn't anything else on the market that is as small while still having an APS-C size sensor and a super sharp lens.
I was going to buy a wide lens for my A6700 but ended up with a new GR3. Primary reason is the pocketability so it comes with me most of the time, and like you say, for video clips I use my iPhone. I love this little powerhouse of a camera.
Working with a sony a7 iv and 3 lenses + filters and tripod.. I am little bit tired the carry that weight.. Ordered the gr3, nisi filters pack and with a small tripod i ll hike lightweight..
Nice lil vid here. Curious to find out how the experience goes for you and whether Ricoh becomes the new every day.. no doubt it’s gonna be a good battle for your pockets
@@gabrielbailey802 it’s actually a long story lol. I was shooting a surprise proposal for a couple and the girl decided it was too buggy to come out on the beach so I was chasing them around trying to find where they were going to propose. I had it with me for fun and I lost it while moving locations. They ended up not even getting engaged that day either 😂
everyone just following the trend, when fuji was trending everyone wanted all the dials and whistles, then now they want to call this the new way forward but it always has been the best camera is one in your pocket. The reasons people are giving as to why they want to pay so much vs just getting a lumix leica 12 year old camera and adding a black mist on them is what's uninspiring to me. I feel like everyone is in some way placebo effect trying to justify following the trend and how much they paid. You also posted 2 photos.
Hey Jayden, thanks for weighing in! I thought this was an interesting video to make as a small update as to why I purchased it. I've got many other videos of me using it on my channel which you can watch, I even took it to Scotland wild camping and hiking for 3 whole days. Cheers!

You're 100% going to love it, great camera to fulfil that niche!
It works for me and I'm happy with mine. I carry it with me everywhere I go when I can't take my XT-50
damn great combo having the two of them to pick from!

This + iPhone is an outrageous pair for content creation that can fit in your pocket!

Thank you! Have to say, I’ve taken it on a big old trip and… I have a lot of thoughts to try and put into a video!
When you compare the GR III and the X100vi, I would love to see how the autofocus compares!
Ooof definitely something I have some thoughts on! Working on it 🫡
great investment! i had the ricoh R1 and i loved it for EDC (until i lost it lol)
No way, very sorry to hear! how did that happen?
