That is a beast. Amazing box. At night, several of our local stations make it out pretty far. They are regulars on DX reports, like WSM. It's one of our cleanest sounding AMs.
GE did make some lookers back in the day.. got a Blockbuster in mint condition.. and my Discover card has an image of the GE Blockbuster you can put on your card.. pretty cool.. i seen this on eBay.. but i dont collect anymore.. had over 350 boomboxes.. only have 3 of my favorites left.. GE Blockbuster.. Realistic SCR-8 and the Sharp VZ-2000.. also have a Sharp GF-8585 with original Sharp D cell batteries and original box!! nice vid!
Onkyo speakers without having to list it as a feature. Every feature on it is a real feature. UV meters to show how accurate your station is. Everything a GPX isn't. 😂
So I lucked out and found one of these guys at the Goodwill bins. Everything is in working order except for the EQ, which seems to be not working at all. Pretty general question, but where would you start on diagnosing that?
Wanted to tell you that it's hooked up and sounds stellar! Overall it's in great shape for a nearly 4 decades old piece of audio equipment. The tape deck needs belts but who's really gonna want to hear cassettes these days...lol. The controls could use some de-oxit sprayed on them, and it's in need of a good exterior cleaning, but for $40 I'm not complaining... haha 😆
I love these square late 70s to mid 80s boomboxes! I can’t believe how much my 1983 JVC RCM70JW that I got for FREE in 2006 is worth on eBay it’s probably my most valuable radio. But it needs restored.
Interesting they illuminated the awesome analog meters, but not the tuning dial scale. The station playing "Broken Wings" at 38:09 could have been 740 CFZM from Toronto, they cover most of NE Canada and USA.
Did you do a video years ago fixing a Panasonic rx-4930? I recently got one and fixed it up and was reminded of a video i thought i saw you do years ago. I think you you played a Van Halen cassette on it and replaced the motor too if i remember correctly .I assume the copyright police struck once again and if so that sucks.
All I can say is...WOWZERS. This is THE perfect box/portable stereo. I wanna hear this thing in person! Great find, my dude!
That station mentioning NJ in the traffic report was 1060 KYW from Philadelphia.
Awesome, thanks!

I had one of these as a kid, and my older brother had the 5259. Such great, great units and great, great memories
Thank you for sharing some of the items I grew up around.. And explaining out the the different points of regions of manufacture.

As AG3304 would've said - that's one swish unit! Puts our beloved Sanyo C-2 to shame...
That is an amazing boombox
