  • Saint-Malo is known as the "Ville Corsaire" or Privateer City and it has a fascinating history that still shapes the city today. This coastal city was an important port for traders and privateers and there are lots of secret passageways and legends surrounding these centuries.
During World War II the city was bombarded and sustained major damage. If you are going to St. Malo, make sure to read the book All The Light We Cannot See, which takes place here. It is also a Netflix miniseries.
Saint-Malo is most popular in the summer as a weekend beach destination. Beachgoers have lots of sand to enjoy at low tide, although the water is always pretty chilly.
Be sure to walk around the ramparts of this walled city. You can also visit the Museum of Jacques Cartier, an aquarium, and the house of a privateer, the Demeure de Corsaire.
If you visit Brittany (la Bretagne) when you're in France, make sure to stop at St. Malo!

Thanks for sharing this video Kristin. I am finishing Anthony Doerr's "All the light we cannot see" and it is a great way to "visit" the location where most of his book is based.
