  • My coverage of the steam-hauled specials organised during three Sundays in October 1991 by Regional Railways for the 150th anniversary of the Taff Vale Railway, featuring BR Standard Class 4 2-6-4T No.80080. First mainline steam in the Welsh Valleys for 26 years. Captured from original Video 8 footage which was 90 mins long but edited here to a 30 mins highlights version.
Filmed and edited by Ray Viney
Equipment used: Sony Handycam Pro V90 with Sony remote mic. and a hefty Velbon tripod.

Nice to see a standard tank out doing its thing and giving blast down memory lane for many enthusiastic fans.
I've got great memories of these locomotives they served well.

So very common when I was a kid, never noticed them then. I had broad grin right through the film. Thank you for the vid.

Absolutely amazing footage Ray, we were both at the same locations in several clips, and I recognised a few friends throughout the video as well. This brought back so many memories of travelling around the Cardiff Valleys over the years as well as these particular runs.....Thanks very much for sharing this link, it's greatly appreciated...Best wishes...Bob

Great to see this footage. I was able to photograph some of the activity that day and was supposed to travel on the journey to Merthyr - but my watch stopped and I didn't know the time. I missed the train and I had travelled from Glasgow to specifically travel on it!

FANTASTIC VIDEO!!! had great fun trying to name the locations before the captions. 1991 seems so recent to me but, of course, it is now an era that has passed into history just as Radyr junction and semaphore signals have!!

BUT THIS WAS UNLAWFULLY NOT PUBLICIEDM PREVENTING MANY OUT OF AREA KNOWING AND ATTENDING= DISGUSTING LACK OF PUBLICITY AS USUAL IN THE UK THE MOST CORRUPT, INCPMPRTERNT AND USELESS COUNTRY IN WEST EUROPE. THEY NEED TO COMPENSATE THOSELIKE THEY PREVENTED FROM ATTENDING, BUT I CAN NEVER GONOW AS I HAVE NO LOWER LEGS DUE TO BEING AN INDIRECT 2ND WAR CASUALTY AND DUE TO SCUM TORY CUTS CAN NOT GET PROSTHETICS, A MOTOR WHEELCHAIR, A FRONT DOOR HIGH SPEP LIFT OF A NEW MANUSAL WHELCHAIR TO REPLACE MY FAULTY UNSAFE ONE. B !!!11.

WHEN WILL THERE BE STEAM ON SOUTH WALES VALLEY LINES NEXT TIME THEN, BUT WITH THE PROPER LEGAL PUBLICITY THAT WAS DISGUSTINGLY MISISING IN LATE 1991. S0RYY ABOUT TYPOIS AS HAVE DOUBLE BLUYRRED VISION, AND AM BEDRIDDEN WIFH NO LOWER LEGS NOW AT PRESENT TILL I CAN FIND FUNDS FOR PROSTHETICS I CANN NOT GET THROUGH SCUM TORY CUTS.
