I'm not British, but can someone explain to me why would someone attack these paramedics ?? They save lives! In my country we would never do something like that...
I myself have experienced assault and abuse from patients and their family as an NHS health worker. I just dont understand why anyone would try to hurt/abuse someone who works to care for the sick and give medical aid. We are here to save your lives, please give us some respect at least.
I'm from america and we typically have cops on scene first in my area, and if there's any doubt about our safety we have them ride with us. Is it like that out in the uk at all?

What a sad indictment of this country when Paramedics and Ambulance crew go out to help people in an emergency and they come under attack from the very people they have gone to help. I cannot understand why imbecile thugs assault Firemen and Paramedics. It is totally disgusting. I believe that if someone starts to become verbally aggressive whilst in an ambulance the Paramedics should simply open the door and push the offender out onto the street. Let him/her stitch their own wounds or fix whatever is wrong with them.

5 year minimum prison sentence ...it works for lesser crimes, why not for that?
