So appreciated for all the wisdom sharing ! Loving that I/we passionate folks may have the schooling we need available to us for free to cheap. Thank you and others like you for taking the time to do this for us! 👏🏻💕
just what I wanted to see ,always good to see other techniques and your whole process makes alot of sense and less labor and time ,thanks for posting Chris and Matt!!!
Soaking the high grit wet sandpaper definitely helps in my limited experience. Seems to have a more evenly consistent & smooth feel & function to sanding, especially if doing shorter/lighter sanding passes and total time before moving onto next highest grit. I hadn't heard about adding couple drops of detergent so maybe that has same effect as pre soaking in several ways. But then again I was hand wet sanding to min 8k grit usually 10k grit for quite a while with very light touch before moving onto buffing.
Hello, very instructive video and I guess will make up my mind on which Festool sander to choose. This being said, the Festool references seems a bit off to me : the model you're using on the video looks like the RO 90 (3 inches diameter), the Fostex sander in reference is the 150 (6 inches diameter) and the Festool sandpaper are the 5 inches... Thx ! Arnaud
I need to look into the festool sander. I’ve always used pneumatic sanders without dust collection... that unit seems a bit more versatile... I agree 100%, if you wet sand to a higher grit, the buffing process goes much faster and you mitigate the burn through risk... oh and the 3m trizac is the best high grit paper out there. The guys at 3m do their homework.
You've become part of the weekly youtube video's. I'm enjoying the content you are putting out. Do you ever make new designs? I noticed that you add bevels on some guitars, would it be possible to make a video about that kind of stuff too? It's cool to see the number of subscribers going up too, getting close to the 10k, way to go
I just discovered your channel Chris.. your luthiery work/teaching and music are fantastic..I'm subscribed!.. now I've got some catching up to do here..Glenn in Vermont...
Quick question, I've been looking for a good sander for my shop but have not gotten the results I've wanted with them. I just wanted to double check, you mentioned you have the Festool Rolex 90 but your links are for the 150. Can you clarify if you indeed have the 90? Also, to confirm, do the larger attachments such as the firm pads, also work with the 90? Thanks in advance.
Thank you Chris for another wonderful video! Say, did you notice if the Trizact pads you're using are P rated (p3000/p5000)? It seems like most Trizact products sells without the P, and they offer p grade pads only in very limited and specific packaging. I have a reason to suspect that when it comes to Trizact products - there's actually no difference, but I don't want to make the mistake of actually sanding to a coarser grit (after wet sanding using P1500-P2000..). So it would be helpful to know what exactly you're using. Thanks again!
another cool video. it is very cool to see your process. I may need to follow that on my next build. .... oh... and I scrolled down to make this comment and had to go back up to see what was making that crunching noise. lol. :)
Your site locations seem to be for 6" discs. I bought the RO 90 today on your recommendation but the paper in the supporting kit is 60 -180 grit. The finest that Rockler stocks is 220. Can you verify your source for 1000, 1500 and 2000 grit? Thanks. Good channel with lots of good info!
Ah man you missed out the spraying part, I was hoping you'd be talking a bit about the booth, I'm just about to build one in my new shop. But great video as always
Hey I appreciate the video, good info. As a result I bought the Festool RO 90. Just wondering was speed you run your sander on? I am concerned about sanding through even with 1000 grit in the aggressive rotary mode. Thanks Steve
Had a chance to play one of these babies. The only thing that surpasses the beauty of his guitars, is the sound. What a powerful accurate instrument! Devil is in the details, and those cats get it.
Best luthier channel hands down. You're so inspiring, and you make working on acoustics within my reach because you're so informative and confident.
You are such a great teacher, Chris. I so appreciate the detail and your diligence in the process. Bravo!! and Thank you!
Aw thanks man! Happy to do it.
Loving the content. This makes me want to build one more than ever.

As the other guy said thanks for sharing your time and wisdom
You guys are welcome! Thanks for watching.
When you use the Festool RO 90 do you typically use the full rotary mode only the 2000 grit and above.. Love the videos. You guys are the greatest!

Dude, the sander along with the dust extractor is so amazing.

As an "executive producer," this comment makes me intensely happy, hahaha
Me too haha

Have you ever used pumice stone and kerosene or linseed oil to final finish before buffing?
Fantastic!! Wow This Is Very Good Info!!
How do you know when it's time to move on to the next grit?

I’ll be doing a series on that soon
Nice work
Love your videos. Funny too. Thanks Chris 🎶🎶🎶
Thanks for watching! We need more lady’s in this group! All dudes around here haha
@@DriftwoodGuitars I know. Girls are not into guitars as I would like. Plus I live in France...(for now). Cheers Chris 🎶🎶🎶
Would it not be a better idea to use micro fiber instead of shop rags?
Hi Chris. I was wondering what brand sandpapers you use for that Festool sander ? Thanks.
Klingspore
@@DriftwoodGuitars Thanks very much.

Usually 3-4
@@DriftwoodGuitars Thanks for the reply

That’s very kind, thank you. I’m so glad you enjoyed the guitar!
Can I do this to my satin guitars?
Festool sander that you are using in the video seems different from the one in the link that you've posted. Isn't yours Festool ROTEX RO 90 DX?
Yeah I wasn’t able to find an Amazon link to the 90 so I posted the 150
@@DriftwoodGuitars Cool, thanks
Keep talking about the the rotex… you’re almost convincing me to go get one 😝
Doooo it! You’ll love it.
@@DriftwoodGuitars done 😰
Do you, or have you ever offered a guitar that has a satin finish?
Wasn’t the neck clear maple in the poor fill series?
It was Spanish cedar. I sprayed a burst on it to better match the Cocobolo body.
Are those P grade sandpapers?
A LCN sticker?🤔😉
Throw er down! I love taking care of the yard
