    Hey there together, after a lot off good sugestions i checked the resistance from RSTRSM and it has 16 ohms! Injecting 3.3V it takes about 50mA and the SIO gets hot, about 50 degrees. So i guess the SIO is dead!

    • @altucker7924
      @altucker7924 29 днів тому +1

      Assuming that the SIO output could have been in the active state (low state) for the RSMRST# when power to the SIO chip is on and RSMRST# output is provided by an open collector or open drain output device which is in a saturated output state injecting 3.3 V may not be a good idea unless the output spec allows for sinking that much current assuming the injected supply current is limited to 50 ma. Note that 50 ma into 16 ohms is only 0.8V since the output goes to 3.3V the SIO output could be pulled out of the saturated state and dissipating more power. Of coarse, if the SIO output open collector or open drain state is off it would allow the output to be pulled up easily without drawing any significant current and would not be getting hot. So yes, the SIO could have been defective originally or possibly caused to fail with the 3.3V injection. As I recall you did this injection previously to this last test. If you decide to replace the SIO chip I would recommend doing the power off continuity check on the other components and etch lines to make sure there is still not a low impedance on the RSMRST# node when the SIO chip is out of the circuit. Hope this helps.

      use the solder iron and twezers to gentle lift up sio 101 pin. then check resistance and inject 1.8v , limit the current to 50ma to be safe. Do you have a bench linear regulated power suply?

      Typical voltage for rsmrst signal for AM4 is 1.8v ... Injecting it with 3.3v might kill the SIO

    • @nikolaskallianiotis8622
      @nikolaskallianiotis8622 24 дні тому

      I don't think it's a good idea to inject 3.3 on a 1.8 line. Besides, how can you be sure that the low resistance was inside the EC or somewhere else in the circuit ?

      @@nikolaskallianiotis8622 Well it didnt make it worse. There is basicly nothing else in the curcuit as i showed in the video, there is basicly only the SIO left

    Q128 is an NAND gate, Q58 an inverter.
    If both VDDP_VSB_PG and CPU_1P8_PG are high, than RSMRST# is not pulled low. So reset is not activated.

    • @altucker7924
      @altucker7924 Місяць тому +1

      I agree the inputs and circuitry up to Q58 are correct. Problem is that Q58 drain node is held low preventing it from coming out of a reset. Several things can cause this as mentioned previously including the SIO. It could be something simple like Q58 shorted, C16 shorted or leaky, or a short or low impedance to ground in the etch lines. Perhaps a continuity check across C16 with power off would be helpful? A reading much lower than the 22K resistor could cause the problem assuming the SIO chip and CPU input in an off condition don't cause a low resistance when not powered up.

    D at the end of rsmrst probably stands for discharge so not having voltage on rsmrst_d is not a problem. something else causing it to short to ground for example q58 or something else. working on similar problem on hp 250 g8 board which something pulling down slp_s3 and susp signals which really annoying and time taking to find. Please do not give up on this board because we really want to know the reason of why rsmrst is stuck to ground on this particular case. Enjoying your videos. Greetings from Azerbaijan

  • @damericano1
    @damericano1 Місяць тому +1

    (RSMRST# has to be high before it goes low), # means active low,in this case the reset signal. put the scope probe in sio pin 101 before power on button, then press the button and see the signal.also check resistance across r78 and between ground?

  • @sbtech2765
    @sbtech2765 Місяць тому +2

    There are a number of reason why RSMRST# won't come out from SIO. This could be a faulty SIO, missing 32.768kHz crystal oscillation near processor & SIO , missing 3.3VALW&1.8VALW, busted EC SPI chip, open resistors or PCB traces,

  • @damericano1
    @damericano1 Місяць тому

    if r78 is a pullup resistor, 1.8v in pin 101sio is necessary before it gows low. q128, q58 , and sio could also be shorted 1.8 rsmrst# to ground before it gows high.
    remember RSMRST# has to be high before it goes low

  • @bahadoromid3554

    Due to the high heat applied to the board, the crystals may have had problems and eventually the Super IO itself may be damaged.

    why not check q128 mosfets for shorts and use diode mode on your meter to check for voltage drop from source to gate , gate to drain on both mosfets

    if you ever try to fix ECS.. dont erase it!. .they dont give full bios on website.. missing intel ME area.. AMD is ok to dload.
    on the fix tip.. i saw other yt repair in past show the 1.8 v is know issue w these amd boards due to a chip that creates it.. also keep in mind the bios is likely 1.8v so it might be shared.

    Watched your video but I don't remember if 5V and 3V standby voltages are present where it should on the M/B. Without any of these, the RSMRST signal won't be generated by the EC.

    @MainboardMedic, I love your videos, is there any chance you can do a video on programming a BIOS chip, each step you need to do from start to finish?

      first tip.. dont trust spi clips (clamp) is hit or miss depending on circuit. desolder chip. try this video from FairRepair EN title How to reprogram a BIOS flash IC properly with CH341A - The Dos and the Don'ts - Basics #1

      @MyElectronicsRepairAdventure 28 днів тому +1

      @@LeadFarmer813 I use clips and pogo pins and it works well. Of course you need to make sure the clip is connected properly. Before programming I always read the chip first, at least twice, save the results and compare in HxD until I get the same reads. The only problem is when the software does not support a chip you want to program. I was using CH341 and now SVOD4 because of the speed and better chip support/software.

I also found this video of a guy fixing a B450 board ....again from MSI. So I think this might be some kind of wider MSI issue (they use the same brand components maybe which fail for some reason?)
