The one that turned out as planned looks awesome but I probably wouldn't have the patience for that technique. I know I would end up with a mess everywhere!!!
I am convinced some of the mica debris comes from it lifting from the spots it’s meant to be on (if that makes sense)- I ALWAYS get some that moves around during the cure time. But I love this technique! And the insects are everything right now for spring!! 🤗🥰🤗
I recently watched a video who used 99% hand sanitizer to mix with mica and the work time was much longer. Not tried it myself but seemed to work really well
It was definitely worth trying and it was fun to see the outcome of it. Doing it with a decal would definitely be faster, cleaner and easier at the end of the day. Thank you again for always showing us fun things to try. 😊🎉
I’ve used silk screens and mica on silicone so much. I absolutely love it. I use a makeup applicator though. The sort of spongy kind - ya know? The applicator you would use to apply eyeshadow (not the brush). It works super well to control the dust. Also - I spritz alcohol on top of the silk screen first, then apply the mica with the applicator.
We use this technique in cake decorating. Use vodka or gin instead it doesn’t dry quite as quickly! And use a flat paint brush. And mix in an egg cup. Have fun!
Thank you for sharing this, Claire. I think you used a lot of mica powder for 2 molds. Even without counting the 2 redos. I wonder if mixing it with a water-based artists resin would work better than the alcohol. I do love your watching your videos because of your infectious laugh and humor. ❤❤❤
We use silkscreens with ceramics and mix it with gum Arabic which burns off in the kiln as the glaze would seep under but not sure how it would finish if you use it in this scenario re sticky for the back of the screens we wash under warm water and pat dry and use a tiny drop of fairy on the back with your finger on then leave to dry and you get some sticky back😅
Oh Claire!! This is wayyyyy too fidgety for me I would have given up when the paste didn't work! Think about when you removed the first perfect screen and the final screen where you had a bit of a mess around it, was their a time difference that could have caused the mess? Like was one completely dry and the other damp? I'll never do this but I'm curious what the cause was!! You're so great for attempting these things for everyone! We adore you!! Much love sweetie 🥰
Apart from the fact that I don't like creepy crawlies they look very nice with the gold and the black. If I had the option, I'd go with gold vinyl and a Cricut. Even if a bit of getting messy can be fun.
I’ve done something very similar before on the backs of some heart hugs before giving the back a top coat. With stencils and freehand painting. Varied results but mostly kinda cool.
What about if you used a lower percentage of alcohol…91%? And if you used a tiny cup (maybe some kind of lid from a bottle or something) so not as much air was hitting it. Just a thought. These are awesome…love them! Thank you! 🪳🩷
Everything looks so perfect in this one,Ms Claire 💜😍.Lovely experimenting video, and it is inspiring us in many ways like what yo do and what not to do Thank you so much for sharing this with us,Ms Claire 💜💜💜😍😍
Whenever I brush molds with chameleon powders, I use a paint brush dipped in alcohol then dipped in the mica. I wonder if this might work? Maybe I will give it a try, I bought a few silk screens when you did the valentines ones. 😀
Claire did you tap out your molds after removing the silk screens? That might remove the excess mica, if not you could always paint around the image with black paint before top coating it - a lot of work but would probably save the coasters.
I was thinking you could cut these from vinyl just moments before you came to that conclusion. I think the bits of mica in the less successful beetle might just be some flakes, which migrated when you poured the resin. The mica is still a powder, and only the very bottom layer against the silicone mold stays put, and if the layer is just a little too thick, things will move. You can see some of the mica moved, since there is that golden spot on the surface of the cured resin. But they are still very beautiful, and maybe, slightly more organic than the perfect image vinyl would produce.
😊 Claire you silly wonderful girl. I do my Mica a little different. I use the bottom of my clear nail polish. And with a little alcohol that is where I put my Mica. It does not dry so quick, when putting it in a stencil. Putting it on a stamp. To go in resin. And then see. My Micah then waits for me in the bottle. A genie in the bottle.🧞. Baby. 😁🤭😂
Faffy? What does that mean? Lol. I love how you say “daybree”. US English vs UK English. Lololol I’m with you on just printing one on the Cricut. Ty for taking us along.
@@journeyhome98 no problem. I use it a lot .. "too much faffing around" "can't be dealing with all that faff" ha .. you'll start a trend over there 😜 xx
I really like watching you and even my son watches you even though he doesn't do anything of this kind of work but I had a lot of trouble with the mica powder not the mica powder the stuff you mix with water that didn't come out real well. A couple of the smaller things did but the bull did not work at all not at all. It also collapsed on me on one side so what am I missing here
I don’t do resin or use mica….. I watch your channel just because you are always so enthousiastic and at times I find your reactions hilarious😉
The one that turned out as planned looks awesome but I probably wouldn't have the patience for that technique. I know I would end up with a mess everywhere!!!
Thank you Claire, for your perseverance, and testing these things out for us. You’re very much appreciated. Thank you so much xx❤❤
Hindsight, maybe the debris came off the beetle when you poured the black. Like it moved. Just a thought. Love it though❤
I agree

Lovely experimenting video with alcohol inks and miva color embossing. This looks fabulous,Ms Claire. So many things to learn here 💜
You're right Claire...too much work for me too!!! Love you!
I recently watched a video who used 99% hand sanitizer to mix with mica and the work time was much longer. Not tried it myself but seemed to work really well
Yes I just watched that one today, it was MrsLisaCrow -frog or toad video. 😀
Oooooo now that would definitely take the edge off the stress 😂😂❤️
I knew it.....I knew with that voice you could sing and you proved it😂❤ Beautiful voice!! Yes I gave up on this technique the 1st time I tried.
It was definitely worth trying and it was fun to see the outcome of it. Doing it with a decal would definitely be faster, cleaner and easier at the end of the day. Thank you again for always showing us fun things to try. 😊🎉

😂❤❤ I agree with you! Gold Leaf 🍃 it is!!! Great video Claire!!
Nice experiment, Thank you for sharing! ❤
I had these silkscreens delivered yesterday! I can't wait to use them. Your results are beautiful, even with the debris.
Thank you for sharing that technique. I’d never seen it before & I loved the results. ❤
Looks like you eventually got the right consistency of mica to alcohol. I haven’t tried it yet.. thank you for testing it on silk screens!
Thanks Claire. Bit faffff for me too so I really appreciate you fafffing on our behalf. Not a loss though since I always get a good laugh from you. ❤
Hi Claire love these , mica can be a bugger 😂, thanks for sharing ❤❤❤ xxx
Loved the experiment. And you sing great!! ❤❤❤❤

Claire you make me smile, I agree I would not use this.
Interesting experiment sadly i agree about the effort. However, your singing is outstanding!!👏
I like both of the coasters. I do think if you used a larger soft brush you would have fewer problems.😊
I’ve seen others use a paintbrush to apply the mica powder. They dip the paintbrush in alcohol and then into the mica and kind of “paint“ it on.
You should try your stamp pad inks with the silk screens. Seems like it would be a winning combo.

You have a lovely singing voice! Kinda blew me away 😊
❤️❤️❤️ thankyou so much xx 🥰🥰🥰

Personal l think I would try the tiniest bit of fine gold glitter in your top coat. Just a suggestion.
Oh Claire your so funny just mix a little in a pot and use a brush bless you lol
Always great to see your experiments Claire and love the enthusiasm
Thank you for this. I use the old molds that resin no longer works in, for plaster and clays pours for another media I do.❤
great video , i missed the live as daylight savings must have changed the time for me , lol ,

Sorry Claire had company turn up while in chat.
I have since watched and want thank you for doing these experiments 😀
Your an amazing person 🤩😍
Claire i use a paintbrush to brush my mixture on and works fine-no streaks etc xx
Whenever I brush molds with chameleon powders, I use a paint brush dipped in alcohol then dipped in the mica. I wonder if this might work? Maybe I will give it a try, I bought a few silk screens when you did the valentines ones. 😀
Thank you for the experiment. That is a very fine line -wondering if using 91% would make any difference ? Thank you once again Claire.
Love the idea❤❤❤ The screens are too die for!
they are stunning xx
Claire did you tap out your molds after removing the silk screens? That might remove the excess mica, if not you could always paint around the image with black paint before top coating it - a lot of work but would probably save the coasters.
I think I would stick with screening the jesmonite rather than mica, or a crichet. The bugs look lovely though.

I think the second one was not as dry as the first one so you got the mica spread... ❤
A fellow Backstreet fan nice! I have been wondering if you can use different type of alcohol?
The one on the right is more vibrant, if that's any consolation.
Very pretty no matter the fall out.
It seems like it would definitely be easier to use the cricket .
I think they look ace but I did think about mixing the mica with gum arabic to make a "stickier" solution ? Dunno but could be worth a try?
Faffy? What does that mean? Lol. I love how you say “daybree”. US English vs UK English. Lololol
I’m with you on just printing one on the Cricut. Ty for taking us along.
Haha just means a bit too complicated/too many steps etc xx
@@LouiseWallage-griffin-en6rw Thank you! I might just have to incorporate it into my vocabulary. Lolol

Fun to watch lol❤😊
To get those details cut correctly in foil on a Cricut no thanks. Those look amazing
Use a paint brush and an alcohol dispenser you only have wet when painting
Think it’s just the mica moves when you pour the resin over it.
Way too much effort for uncertain results me thinks young Claire. But the actual beetles look amazing. ❤
Stick some leave tattoos on there Claire so the insects are peeping through 😁
They’re definitely beautiful, but that’s a lot of work… you might be better off with self adhesive stencils….
Would you say you are just ffafffing about? New word for me.
No I don’t think it is worth it.
Yea don't think I'm as p0atieente as yolu are😂
