I think people really need to consider that each show has its own personality based around what wrestlers have been on them for the past year or so. A few changes here and there are perfect to refresh each show while retaining their identity. The format of how they presented it was goofy you are spot on santi with that. I think too many major changes would 100% be a bad thing though, why reboot a show when it’s doing well.
The issue is purely one of presentation. The only people who should be drafted are NXT stars, and maybe champions to ensure that each brand has equal championships per show. Everything else should be presented as trades. And these trades could create new stories. New champions could be built up; for example, what is Nick Aldis refused to let Bron Breakker go so Adam Pearce had to sweeten the deal, and eventually gave him two superstars and an additional NXT call-up for Bron? Or maybe a talent finds out that their name was mentioned in trading brands, but they don’t want to change brands. Plus, we can get rid of the supplemental draft with makes those picks feel secondary imo.
How I'd do the draft is alternating rounds between protect and swaps. Then they can quickly announce 2 or 3 people that a brand is keeping, then do a draft round of swaps, then do some more keeps then swaps. This way it has the element of protecting talent but also forces some big swaps through
I think one idea that could work for fixing the draft is to include a free agency period about two weeks before the draft starts. This could work by stating each brand can protect a certain number of superstars and resign them to their brand. By doing this, we can drop the number of draft picks that don’t have any movement but keep the idea of brands protecting their assets. For the viewers it removes the lack of unpredictability we currently have in the draft and can allow actual moving picks to be highlighted.
The biggest problem is Raw being 3 hours and Smackdown being 2 - most of your reasons for the low rated picks were just that they won't have enough time on Smackdown. Also you haven't seen how glorious Vinci was prior to this Imperium stuff, rich Italian Vinci was quite fun

I think, especially after seeing this draft, what’s needed is this formula: All NXT stars are eligible for draft. Any of them. So rounds 1-4 of the “draft” are only NXT stars. Then, rounds 5-12 (you’d do 4 rounds on SD of superstars from NXT, the rest on RAW) and the “5-12” would be trades only. Segments where GM goes “hey, I rlly like this star, I’ll give you this tag team for this star” and now LA Knight is on RAW and Creed Brothers are on SD. Or smth like that.
you’re calling for Rounds 1-4 to be simply NXT stars and ima assume 4 picks in each Round so take into account that at least 16 NXT stars are moving up to the main roster. 1. That removes any sort of special moments you get when an NXT superstar is called up 2. that’s essentially raiding NXT a for a chunk of their roster YEARLY 😭 3. NXT at the end of the day is a developmental so having your Top 16 superstars raided yearly, while only being left with freshly green talent who still are finding their foot isn’t really something they’d do
I think the way to make it better is that: a) The brands can protect a certain amount of people b) In between rounds there is a trade timer (where in that time trades of "protected stars") can be made This way say RAW protects 10 or so people, SmackDown protects 10 or so people. Those 10 or so could still be traded but can't be drafted, and then the trades allow for the big stars to change without the "draft element" just looking stupid And then the draft would start with Primarily Upper Midcarders, and then down to shake them up.
Lyra Valkyria getting drafted to Raw gets an A+++ from me just for her live reaction. Raw was definitely the right show for her. Like Santi said, Raw is able to give more TV time to the undercard women, and every main roster wrestler Lyra has a connection to is over there. The obvious one is Becky, who Lyra beat for the NXT title in a fantastic match (which you should all go watch if you haven't seen it yet), so we're likely going to see a sequel to that match as well as seeing the them team up. There's also all the other Irish Wrestlers on Raw (Triple H could literally make an Irish World Order faction if he wanted to), 2 of which are part of Judgement Day, which Rhea is also a part of, and Lyra and Rhea have history from back when the Judgement Day were making appearences down in NXT last year. Dragon Lee got drafted to Raw alongside the LWO, and he and Lyra were in a mixed tag match together against Rhea and Dom. While Lyra was NXT women's champion, she and Tatum Paxley challenged the Kabuki Warriors for the tag titles, so Lyra can run it back with both Auska and Kairi as well as the other members of damage control. Finally, Alba Fyre and Isla Dawn, fellow NXT UK alumni, are also now on Raw, and, in addition to possibly feuding with them, if they want to freshen up Lyra's character by turning her heel, she could easily be included with those 2 and form a little witch faction. I know Lyra and Isla are very good friends behind the scenes, so they could probably work well together. TL;DR: Lyra is a fantastic addition to the Raw women's division, who already has quite a bit of history with many of the people on Raw, so the feuds and storylines just write themselves.
I feel like I only like the format if notable people announce, something unpredictable happens during an announce, the picks are more randomized so there’s a lot more fanfare surrounding the draft, and for the bigger picks they come out and say or do something to further story for the future. My favorite part was seeing the behind the scenes of nxt ppl getting their shot. Anything but “this is where the person is going, and it’s actually the same place this whole time”

I don’t think the Champs should have been protected. The reason for taking off the “raw” and “smackdown” from the men’s tag titles and women’s titles was so when drafting different champs to separate brands you didn’t have to do those awkward title swaps like the one between Charlotte and Becky. It would have made it more exciting wondering if the champs could swap brands

Santi, I know how to make both idea(protection to stars and excitement for a change) in a draft. Do it like the CS map choose: first you have, like, 3 rounds of protection, very fast, then one round that you would choose from the other company. Then, on the end of the show, close the draft with rounds of NXT picks, this way you can give their time to shine and to be on screen.
Gio should've been drafted to NXT, he is such a great in-ring performer, and has the look of a world champion. Even his micwork is decent, if he were to have a solo run on NXT he would've certainly improved in every aspect. He has the potential of an upper midcarder he just needs to be utilized in the correct way

Honestly I like the reactions and seeing the togetherness of the NXT roster when they go to RAW/Smackdown but it doesn’t help by making it feel like NXT is more so a development brand rather then it feeling as a third brand.
I truly don’t think protections are a bad thing in the draft. Just embed them in the story. Have the war rooms talking. “We want to keep the championship on smackdown no matter what, so we will take aj styles first overall” then raw can comeback and in their war room “they just left open the one championship up for grabs we need to take it” and have them grab Damage ctrl, then you can have smackdown be sure it comes back by protecting Bianca/Jade. Adds to the storyline of hey this championship is now raw vs smackdown and completely puts the protections to a sense of realism.
I remember them saying that NXT would play a major factor in the draft, not so much that they were drafting. So I expected more NXT Superstars getting drafted.
They should do the draft like the nba expansion draft if u know what I’m talking about. Each brand (including NXT) can protect a certain amount of wrestlers (champions or not) and everyone else is up for grabs. That way there’s less of a emphasis on keeping your won superstars as u already protected the ones u wanted the most
I ended up arguing with a couple of people on Instagram about a post where Roxxane complained about not being drafted, I tried in several ways to explain that telling us that champions are protected doesn't mean anything because it's not real and they weren't having any of it 😂 they kept saying I wasn't making any sense, nice to see someone that actually gets it 😂
I think it could be much better if there were two phases of the draft. First round is 2-4 Superstars that each brand specifically wants to protect. Then a round of 2-4 Superstars picked from another brand (the other brand or nxt). Then repeat; a round of protection followed by actual drafting. Maybe there's an optional trade phase somewhere in there, too.
I think that the randomized draft after Raw vs Smackdown vs (ECW) matches from between 2007 and 2011 was the best concept. And 2004 were the picks were random as well.
The one thing I will say for the draft is that they seem to be using the number at which people were drafted as fuel for multiple storylines, so from that point of view it did have some longer term value, but yeah basically I agree with you on nearly everything you said.

Bron and Andrade being drafted felt like competition between GMs. During all the signings. I remember during the signings one of the GMs said to the other "it would be a shame signing them just to lose them in the draft" or something like that. I don't see it as a big deal like others seem to.
in the long run, what they did this year might be a good thing. imagine next year when we expect no big changes, they will do something crazy in the draft. this makes superstars changing brands a bigger deal. RAW and SmackDown should feel like very separate shows so that whenever superstars crossover, it would feel like a really big deal.
Chelsea & Piper were moved to smack down to bulk up the women's tag division, as well as Candice & Indi, so they have teams for Bianca & Jade to face once they get the titles at Backlash. luckily, Chelsea is also supposed to be in a championship match on NXT next week and there is also already rumors of a storyline being made for her on NXT too.
Brands should be able to protect superstars like an expansion draft. It doesn’t have to be champions either…which could spark storylines….superstars can be drafted to all three brands….OR, like sports, superstars can be optioned (like baseball) to NXT for a certain period of time and then recalled when needed.
True, I will admit, I proposed that it should use the draft as a way to call-up NXT stars exclusively and then also perform trades amongst the main roster on tv as well. That is the only way it would work. However, I agree, it should be more 'sports entertainment,' like how Cena & Batista were drafted to opposite shows as champions.
They should make it for the nxt call ups like the NFL draft and then for the other part do what they did years passed so it's random and the main eventers are protected
They should select: Raw - picks one of their restaurants, then one of smackdown or nxt then Smackdown does the equivalent. Titles/Champs can move too. It could look like: Raw - Jey, Cody Smackdown - Bianca, Damien
They should define slots for the draft of they are going to include holds. Something like each brand 5 untouchables, 10 picks from the other brand and 5 NXT call-ups.

They should make it for the nxt call ups like the NFL draft and then for the other part do what they did years passed so it's random and the main eventers are protected

They should select:
Raw - picks one of their restaurants, then one of smackdown or nxt then Smackdown does the equivalent. Titles/Champs can move too.
It could look like:
Raw - Jey, Cody
Smackdown - Bianca, Damien
They should define slots for the draft of they are going to include holds. Something like each brand 5 untouchables, 10 picks from the other brand and 5 NXT call-ups.
I see why people say the draft was boring but I feel like they didn’t want to ruin any storylines they already had in place
