@@brickwallblitz Yes, you mention it happened in the Chicago game. But you didn’t mention the impact it had on those 4 games all being losses, including the playoff game, right after the incredible streak they were on up through the game he broke his hand.

It wasn't a knee injury that ended his season two weeks after that Browns game. It was his shoulder and he didn't play the rest of the season after that game.
He’s a hall of famer in my book. He went and got his ring and by leaving he single-handedly facilitated the lions turn around. Basically every one of those draft picks were turned into key players for the current roster. Brad Holmes has been excellent with his draft selections.
That playoff game vs the cowboys made me quit watching football for a little bit. I remember they hurried up, and ran a play after that flag. To prevent the refs from going back, they snapped the ball, and it was out of their reach to do anything to overturn the penalty. I was wrong as fuck though, after the second down play from that set of downs- They basically acted like it never happened ,then the refs picked the flag back up. They brought it back to that 4th down like the 1st down from the penalty. It wasn't just because it was a bullshit pickup on an obvious penalty. It was that they did it when it when the down of the penalty was not the previous play.
There was a lot of frustration, but there was also the sense that more often than not, Stafford would do the impossible. Like when Todd Gurley accidentally scored and left time on the clock for Stafford, you had the sense as a fan that the game was in hand, even though he still had to drive the length of the field. The basic blue print was start pretty well, do nothing in the second and third quarters, then steal the game at the end of the 4th. It was always exciting, but it just wasn't a good recipe for sustained success.
In some sense, you could say that Stafford is responsible for the Lions current success. After all, in the trade with the Rams, in addition to Jared Goff (a early MVP candidate in 2024) the Lions also got a significant number of draft picks that they have used to select what is perhaps the best collection of young talent in the league.
The one factor most overlooked is that Stafford had something like 6 or 8 hundred yard rushes by his running backs over a good 100 game stretch, so defenses had no fear of play action passes. They generally just put their ears back and tried to pressure Stafford as much as possible. You can see why he had over 25 4th qtr comebacks in his time in Detroit.
28 fourth qtr. comebacks with a team with zero run game is a HoF stat. Detroit is winning now because of a balanced attack, and that's why defenses are frozen because of the play action threat.
@@johnnyslokes2712 He’s top 4 all time in being sacked and pass attempts, all while having a historically weak run game to balance out the passing. Around 8 100 yards rushing attacks while here in Detroit. Statistically speaking that should have been closer to 40. Defenses had one job, disrupt the pass.
@Embur12 Okay, but Stafford was still one of the best play action quarterbacks in the league. He didn't need a good run game to have a good play action pass, is my point.
The playoff game against the Cowboys was the most obviously rigged games I've seen. Also, Stafford is absolutely a HoFer. Best arm of all time, got a ring, and has the stats to back it up
Stafford was held back by his own choice. He handicapped that team every contract he signed he demanded more money everytime but never won with only 1 playoff appearance. Notice other SB QBs have a lower average contract so there’s cap room for other good players
The Matthew Stafford era in Detroit was doomed after one mistake. The Lions decision to draft Eric Ebron instead of Odell Beckham Jr or Aaron Donald in 2014. The offense often stagnated when a team had nickel who could keep up with Tate. They didn't have a 3rd option. Odell would have taken pressure off Megatron and would have opened up the field for Tate but they passed and promoted Jeremy Ross from the practice squad who had one good game and was generally worthless. Or they could have picked Suh's replacement with Aaron Donald. And this isn't in hindsight. This was the only logical choice at the time. Even when Erbon was draft Mel Kiper was confused and said I thought they were picking Odell. Check the tape. He literally said it on air.
6-10 in 2010 was decent considering they started 2-10. I'll always respect him for how much he gave this team. Hell, he wanted to come here. Sam Bradford stayed in college an extra year, most assuming to avoid being drafted by Detroit but Stafford wasn't scared of it. I feel the 2014 season playoff loss to Dallas is when doubt about getting it done here probably started to creep into his head. Maybe they still don't win with that penalty but the chance of winning was taken from them.
Of course as a lions, fan I believe Stafford is well overdue for HOF talks. But of course as a lions fan, I’m going to boo him when he faces the Lions.
Gotta say, I don’t really miss him all that much. Glad he did what he did in LA. But now that Campbell and Holmes have us rolling, on the back of the picks we got from trading Stafford, he’s kind of just a footnote in lions history. Good QB who was pretty bad when it mattered.
This why I don’t understand why new Lions fans try to clown Stafford in favor of Goff. Not only was Stafford bettter on a way worse team, he was tougher, and as an inner-city Detroiter he WAS Detroit.
@@darkhobo Lmao we really do live in two different Americas. He's saying that he's speaking as an inner city Detroit resident, Stafford meant more to the city of Detroit than Goff. You just read it too literally.

@@silent1759 Prime Stafford with this team now would be scary. Stafford THEN was way better than Goff NOW. At this point in time Stafford is washed.. Lions traded at the perfect time.
As a Packers fan, I never feared Stafford or the Lions team he lead (I likely did not feel the former mostly because the latter was so generally awful), but I respected the heck out of his toughness and ability and knew that more often than not, it would be no cakewalk to stop him. I did fear Megatron.
Nothing more vindicating in my years of watching football then watching my fav qb go from "stat padford" to superbowl champion. He should get a gold jacket for shutting the haters up in one season.
Calvin Johnson is hands down the best wide receiver of all time. If he was with a better team he’d have broken all records. Somehow the lions have some of the greatest players of all time but never got anywhere with them

Stafford was a good QB, but he was never anywhere near the caliber of Manning and Brady. Brady and Manning were not only clutch, but they were LEADERS who put the team on their backs and set the tone for the whole team not just offensively. The reason he had to come back so much during his time in Detroit, was because his led offenses didn't always get ahead early, but always found themselves behind in the end, that amounted to so many of his empty passing yards. He won't make the team great but he's a great complimentary player.
I grew up during the late Barry Sanders era to the garbage era of Detroit. Now, we are 10-1 and might finish with one of the best records of all time under Dan Campbell. I want a Super Bowl win
Nope, until Goff wins a super bowl.. Rams won that trade by a mile. The whole point of trading for Stafford was to win a super bowl. Lions haven't won anything with Goff.. They made the playoffs last year but what did that actually do? Nothing yet
This maker ISNT from Michigan. Michigan ppl loved Stafford from the 1st game and cheered his superbowl victory. We had the best running back and wide receiver of all time and had to see them retire with nothing but our love. We cheered Stafford and his superbowl win.. Now we want our own... GO LIONS 2025

Well the cucks did that. I hoped he lost because of all the 12 years of failure that he brought us due to his salary cap and not speaking up as a leader. He let Patricia bully his friends. Fat Patricia…
@@joeyabraham6330 I typically don’t believe in one bad call affecting a game completely but as an outsider the Lions have gotten screwed by bad calls more than anyone else. Idk how Lions fans deal with it.

Thanks to the clueless Ford family, our Lions have been the WORST managed team in pro sports since 1963! Billy Sims, Barry Sanders, Calvin Johnson, and Matthew Stafford were great, but our ownership could NEVER figure out how to field a complete team. The 2023 season was the best we’ve had since 1957, and they’re looking good for the rest of this season. GO LIONS!
Those early 2010s Lions teams had 0 run game and 0 secondary. They made Matt Flynn 26 million dollars. Stafford had to sacrifice his career there to finally break the Bobby Layne curse.
Stafford is the best QB in Lions history. Even if Goff wins a Super Bowl and MVP... Stafford will always be the better QB. And until Goff wins a super bowl.. Rams won that trade
@malrulesall9669 Nah, Lions haven't haven't won anything. The whole point of the trade was for the Rams to win the Super Bowl, and they immediately did. That's why we play the game. It is to win the Super Bowl. Lions didn't do that, Rams did.

It's so bittersweet to look at our team now. I love Goff and if not for the Stafford trade our rebuild wouldn't have been so successful, but just IMAGINE Stafford with our current O-line, defense, and run game....good lord man
Stafford was inconsistent. He was the best worst qb in the league when he was with the lions. At times he would look superhuman, but then he would also look like a back up qb throwing some of the worst interceptions. Many of Staffords comebacks were from his own turnovers. I don't think Stafford was a terrible qb, but he wasn't a great qb. You couldn't rely on him to consistently carry your team. If you needed him to march your team down the field one time, you had pretty good faith in him. If you needed him to consistently put the team on his back, he wasn't going to do it. He now has a super bowl win, but he was on probably the best all around team in the NFL. Yet he still made his bone head mistakes, like the throw to the 49ers in the conference championship (which was somehow dropped). He also had his typical league leading interceptions. Goff may not be as electrifying as Stafford, but i have much more trust in Goff. He is less likely to throw a game away and is still putting up great stats.
If you're in the top 10 all time in passing yards and soon to be passing TD's, just based on longevity you should be in the HOF. IMO everyone in that top 10 is a HOFer. The only reason Stafford doesn't have more accolades is because he was playing at the same time as 7 of those guys on that list.
Everyone has been saying "I wish Lions fans would be humble like they used to." When really all they want is for us to be a dumpster fire so they can make fun of us and we can't say anything back
It's not even they want you to be a dumpster fire. It's they want you for some reason to return to being irrelevant. A dumpster fire in New York with the Jets can still be a media circus people sell tickets for (Come one come all, come see the freaks!). Like so long as you're in that 5-9 win window for some reason thats okay with them. I don't get that. Why can't a long suffering fan base be proud of their team? Also being humble has got them shit all. Campbell came in as HC and proclaimed the need to bite some knee caps, to get the dust (of losing) off their backs. Thats bold, to come in and say your past sucked. Screw it, doesn't matter lets kick some ass. New year new us. I'm hoping they take that to the SB (I wanted them to last year) since my teams resetting.

@@brickwallblitz Yes, you mention it happened in the Chicago game. But you didn’t mention the impact it had on those 4 games all being losses, including the playoff game, right after the incredible streak they were on up through the game he broke his hand.
That was such an underrated season for us we really could’ve won that playoff game 🤦🏾♂️
@@MrAndrewLawrence420 dude you suck make your own damn content
Stafford in Caldwell era was really fun but frustrating as hell. Can't win when your starting TE is Eric Ebron and RB is ameer abdullah
I’m glad that Stafford got his superbowl ring, he was one tough quarterback.
Rams fan. Always grateful for Stafford. Just hope things come full circle and he gets love from Lions fans when he does hang it up.
We all love him dude. Except when he comes in wearing a different jersey then it's all boos. When he comes back in street clothes he's getting all the love he deserves and more
Ha. You got Kelly Stafford though. That's a Big L.
@@darkhoboKelly ain't that bad, bro. 😂
Oh his jersey retirement will be nothing but love from us Michigan folk.
Lions fans booing Stafford was the only negative of the Dan Campbell era for me.
Lions fan here he was great!
It wasn't a knee injury that ended his season two weeks after that Browns game. It was his shoulder and he didn't play the rest of the season after that game.
Bro 6k subs? This video was incredible. People give this man a sub!!
He’s a hall of famer in my book. He went and got his ring and by leaving he single-handedly facilitated the lions turn around. Basically every one of those draft picks were turned into key players for the current roster. Brad Holmes has been excellent with his draft selections.
LOVE your videos and your style. keep going !
@@Luka7Donc1c thank you Luka, you are one of my 4 favorite nba players!
Your videos are really good dude keep it up
That playoff game vs the cowboys made me quit watching football for a little bit.
English please
Do not cite the deep magic to me, i was there when it was written
(Great video. What an era)
WE BRICKED UP BABY
You are way too good at this to only have 5k subs. Ur channel is sick bro
Agreed, he’s gonna be huge soon
Stafford has always been great!😉👍🥰
In some sense, you could say that Stafford is responsible for the Lions current success. After all, in the trade with the Rams, in addition to Jared Goff (a early MVP candidate in 2024) the Lions also got a significant number of draft picks that they have used to select what is perhaps the best collection of young talent in the league.
Stafford was just a stepping stone
The one factor most overlooked is that Stafford had something like 6 or 8 hundred yard rushes by his running backs over a good 100 game stretch, so defenses had no fear of play action passes. They generally just put their ears back and tried to pressure Stafford as much as possible. You can see why he had over 25 4th qtr comebacks in his time in Detroit.
28 fourth qtr. comebacks with a team with zero run game is a HoF stat. Detroit is winning now because of a balanced attack, and that's why defenses are frozen because of the play action threat.
That didn't matter a lot, Stafford was typically one of the best play action passers despite having a poor rushing attack most the time
@@johnnyslokes2712 He’s top 4 all time in being sacked and pass attempts, all while having a historically weak run game to balance out the passing.
You should do one on Jared Goff’s renaissance in Detroit. This maybe the best example of a win-win trade in any sport.
As a growing boy Jim Schwartz is the first coach I remember for the lions (my fav team) and I was pissed they fired him
Sounds just like me when they fired jim Caldwell. I wonder what these two coaches could have accomplished with a couple more seasons?
Matt is my favorite all time Lions quarterback! Imagine if the Lions had a team like they do now for him! GO LIONS!
The fact that Daunte Culpepper and Matt Stanford’s careers intersected at one point is wild to think about.
“the lions were going up against top defenses… and the chargers” 😭
I love me some Stafford. Shame the organization was so chaotic.
But got damn do I LOVE me some Goff.
The 2024 Lions are amazing to watch.
The playoff game against the Cowboys was the most obviously rigged games I've seen.
Also, Stafford is absolutely a HoFer. Best arm of all time, got a ring, and has the stats to back it up
Bro, we ain’t that anymore.
We may have been a terrible team but it was pretty fun to watch most of the time
Megatron really made it fun too
Stafford was held back by his own choice. He handicapped that team every contract he signed he demanded more money everytime but never won with only 1 playoff appearance. Notice other SB QBs have a lower average contract so there’s cap room for other good players
Needed this
The Matthew Stafford era in Detroit was doomed after one mistake.
🙄🙄🙄🙄😩🤔😂 damnnnn bro, you know ball….
Ya happy? Is that what u were looking for?
This is the way
Gotta say, I don’t really miss him all that much.
No. Stafford was not a Detroiter. He was from Texas....
@@darkhobo Learn to fucking read
@@darkhobo Lmao we really do live in two different Americas. He's saying that he's speaking as an inner city Detroit resident, Stafford meant more to the city of Detroit than Goff. You just read it too literally.
At no point in the Stafford era was any of his teams worse than that 21 team. Yet goff still had a better rating in thst year than Stafford career at the time.
Somehow the lions have some of the greatest players of all time but never got anywhere with them
@@francisoffilth7953 Sometimes you gotta learn from your mistakes to get the Lions teams we have now!
As a lion lifer I seen some stuff..oh boy..but I was glad to see suh go...so much talent but so much temper and such a selfish player so many personal fouls that killed us..ugh..but I was so dang happy for matt winning the SB the man deserved it
Bruhhhh that was cold at @26:52 😂😭🤣😭🤣😭 detroit did what they do best hold stafford back
Stafford was a good QB, but he was never anywhere near the caliber of Manning and Brady.
In the Lions/ Rams Wildcard game, “Detroit did what they do best and held Stafford back” 😂 this dude is funny af
Rams fan here, I’m legitimately so happy both teams have won the trade
Nope, until Goff wins a super bowl.. Rams won that trade by a mile. The whole point of trading for Stafford was to win a super bowl. Lions haven't won anything with Goff.. They made the playoffs last year but what did that actually do? Nothing yet
This maker ISNT from Michigan. Michigan ppl loved Stafford from the 1st game and cheered his superbowl victory. We had the best running back and wide receiver of all time and had to see them retire with nothing but our love. We cheered Stafford and his superbowl win..
Now we want our own...
GO LIONS 2025
Theo Riddiiiiiick!
You’re insane to say that Stafford was underappreciated. At least if you mean from a fan perspective, because we rolled with that dude and celebrated him winning a damn Super Bowl with a completely different team.
never went underappreciated by fans thats a fact!
Well the cucks did that. I hoped he lost because of all the 12 years of failure that he brought us due to his salary cap and not speaking up as a leader. He let Patricia bully his friends. Fat Patricia…
This was good, hopefully we get something like this when the pistons turn it around one day😅
I have to sort of hate the Pistons as a Cavs fan (have the teal logo snapback though), but yeah. At least they got in some recent titles though.
Just by pointing out that damn bat I respect you
Noted the face mask too 😢
@@joeyabraham6330 I typically don’t believe in one bad call affecting a game completely but as an outsider the Lions have gotten screwed by bad calls more than anyone else. Idk how Lions fans deal with it.
their OC name was jim bob cooter, like his name was the bad thing about him
Brandon Pettigrew used to be on our Xbox friends list during this time.
Stafford threw for over 5,000 yards and 40 Tds and still didn't go to the pro bowl. Instead they gave it to Aaron Rodgers, Drew Brees, and Eli Manning. And he wasn't even an alternate.. that was Cam Newton.
Mathew Stafford has 2 seasons of 41 td passes 4.8K+ yards without a pro bowl.
I’d give Stafford hof solely cause of the fact Calvin Johnson wasn’t throwing to himself
GO LIONS!
They wasted the best QB in franchise history by not building a running game or consistent defense. I’m glad they have it figured out now
Isn’t he the quickest qb to reach 50,000 yards? I’d say he’s hall of fame based on his numbers
Those early 2010s Lions teams had 0 run game and 0 secondary. They made Matt Flynn 26 million dollars. Stafford had to sacrifice his career there to finally break the Bobby Layne curse.
I’ll admit I was at the Wild Card game vs Rams and boo’ed the shit out of Stafford. I still love him though
26:50 music?
A 'good' but not 'great' summation of Stafford's career !
Stafford is the best QB in Lions history. Even if Goff wins a Super Bowl and MVP... Stafford will always be the better QB. And until Goff wins a super bowl.. Rams won that trade
They both won the trade
@malrulesall9669 Nah, Lions haven't haven't won anything. The whole point of the trade was for the Rams to win the Super Bowl, and they immediately did. That's why we play the game. It is to win the Super Bowl. Lions didn't do that, Rams did.
Just like with Barry Sanders we never had a defense for him
Or a quarterback save for Scott Mitchell’s 95 season
@@goblue193 I remember a reporter was (supposedly) privately confided in a dinner before that Eagles playoff game he had that they had their doubts he was really ready for the game. Dude got eaten alive.
It's so bittersweet to look at our team now. I love Goff and if not for the Stafford trade our rebuild wouldn't have been so successful, but just IMAGINE Stafford with our current O-line, defense, and run game....good lord man
@@cojocoolio I see the Stafford era as a stepping stone for better things to come, hope for the first time in a long time in Detroit.
Did you see Stafford this week ? Frozen Rope
If we would have drafted Aaron Donald and not Eric Ebron, then the lions would have won 3 Super Bowls in a row.
My favorite moment of the video is @16:50.
Jim Bob Cooter is a good OC. He's with the Colts now.
Golden Tate didn't drop kick him. He teabagged him lol
"and being 1 of 13 teams to beat the Browns" is hilarious LOL
I want a 1 day contract so he retires a lion.
