I'm an American who has visited the UK 5 times. Without the mystique of the royal family and everything associated with them (and the lack of Judi Dench in a play), I would have no desire to go again. I feel many people will be the same. I understand tourism brings mega pounds to the UK and I believe it will hurt the economy. In most monarchies it is the elected government, not the monarch, that runs things. The monarch is head of state but stays out of politics - and does not govern. So changing from a monarchy to a republic would not change one thing about how the government manages anything.
No, but it might change a lot of other things about the way the UK operates. For instance, the primacy of all land ownership in England still rests with the monarch. The Crown Estate owns most of the coastline and sea bed around Great Britain, hence the obsession with turbines going into the sea so that licences can be sold and money brought in. A cynic might think, then, that the ludicrous green energy policies of our government have more to do with servicing the Crown Estate's coffers than being about saving the planet.Whilst regular grandparents have to go through the courts if they want custody of their grandchildren, the king has automatic legal custody of all of his descendants and his minor grandchildren (no wonder Meghan Markle fled). The Monarch is above the law and cannot be prosecuted or pursued through civil court and Equal Opportunities legislation does not apply to the royal household. The Monarch meets every week with the Prime MInister for a 'briefing'. Who is briefing who? We are led to believe that the Prime Minister briefs the Monarch but do we really believe that the billionare sitting in the room with the Prime Minister doesn't have any influence at all over what is being discussed. The current Monarch is neck deep in the World Economic Forum, which has infiltrated every government on the globe so that it can influence said governments. Are we to believe that Charles doesn't do that , then? The power of the monarchy is deeply embedded in the fabric of the governance of the United Kingdom. It's about time that changed.
