I will probably never own a steam locomotive, but your videos are great preparation for if I ever do, and besides they keep the dream alive. I do have everything, just about everything for a 100 metre long 5" gauge railway, with a battery operated loco.

Once again Keith, a superb series of films. Thank you for taking the trouble to make them, I really enjoy watching. Hope the keyboard warriors don't bother you too much, please keep making the films. It would be nice to see you one day at our Bournemouth track.

Hello Keith, I too have just purchased one of these fine little engines and the owner of the Chinese factory told me he had been involved with someone in the UK to fix the injector problems and that appears to have been yourself. Thankfully my engine was one of the units to have had your attention and expertise lavished and I will certainly be attending to the same issues of springing on the wheels and tidying up the cab controls. I am looking forward to scratch building some rolling stock for this loco.
    Regards

Hello Keith. I'm happy to see you're still uploading over the Easter weekend. I was afraid you were taking the time off, deservedly imho, and the fear of not being able to watch steam locomotives being modified have started the voices again. Fortunately, watching this video made them go away. Happy Easter! :o)

Another way to remove bearings from a blind hold is to pack the hole with heavy grease , place a rag over it and hammer a bolt or drive that barely fits. The compressed grease forces the bearing out.

Just finding this video series now. Love it! Is this a Wuhu / Bowande model? Is this the same vendor Maxitrak is using? They have some very similar stuff, but I'm a little confused as to who is what. Cheers from the US

i found a pic of the rods . . . it's of 1466 at Didcot a GWR 0-4-2 tank type . . . not sure if it matches yours exactly but the rods have the oil reservoirs and what appear to be brass plugs . . . hope it helps.

How were you meant to oil the coupling rods if they had those brass plugs in them? Were there holes down the bushes or did you have to drill through from the bottom of the existing holes?

Really nice! Loved the chuffing at the end. It sounds very nice. Glad to see a little bit of painting, too... just enough. It's morning, here, and I can't spare the time to get back into bed. (I'm being a little cheeky, because I really do like the painting (and un-painting) bits, when they show up.) Thanks, Keith! ... EDITH LIVES!

May I ask, where could I buy a small (ish) pressure gauge for a live steam locomotive?

Good morning Keith, Hope you had a pleasant Easter. Once again I came to work just to watch your work. I continue to restore my friends American and am working on replacing all the piping and valves as they have deteriorated quite badly. Two questions. In the first few seconds of the video you show the two new water valves for the injectors. They are labeled 90 degree. Are there 180 degree, straight valves available? I need this type of valve and will need to mount them under the floor of my tender. The upright valve rode would be nice. I have not found anything like this in America. Also at time frame :42-45 seconds there is a photo of your piping to the injector. You seem to have a black quick disconnect on the inlet pipe. Would this fitting work on the hose ends between the tender and the engine? If so where can I find them?

You can get 180 degree water valves also - made in England and available from www.blackgates.co.uk ..... The water to the injector is taken from a separate tank on the riding truck behind the engine as the water in the side tanks soon get too warm

Ordered two of the valves and various fittings. I have decided to use their 1/4 inch unions to make up the hoses between the engine and tender.

What is the big green lump on the top of the engine? Has a sort of domed top.

That is the Steam Dome from under which the steam is supplied to the regulator - from the highest point available.
