Many many sales heads are bullies. They have the power over your region you get and the bonus you get. People work for them to make a living and get bonuses.
Not sure if the writers were trying to make Penny look like a good leader here, but if they were, it's clear that they've never worked in a traditional corporate environment. Talking down to your subordinates like this is how you chase away your best people, especially in sales. Competition in my industry is INTENSE for a good sales rep.
Penny was too used to having her way. Bernadette was a bully though.

I worked in the pharmaceutical industry and the research team (never a single person) would have nothing to do with the sales/marketing process other than being asked pertinent questions about the product. Sales/marketing NEVER answers to development and in fact they rarely interact on a professional level.
Tbh that makes sense. I worked in govt hospital and we had different department and one among them was Medicine Distribution (basically govt gives free medicine.. they aren't for complex disease for most of meds for common disease are there). Doctors never had direct interaction with them. Only interaction they had was sometimes one of staff of that dept will go to the doctor to tell them that certain medicine isn't available in stock rn so they should prescribe the one available (like there are 2-3 meds for same problem.. so in that case bcz sometimes patients wanted the one written in prescription and will get angry) & doctors have no idea what's in the stock & what's not so they would write the one they wanted

Apparently this is how it rolls in our place as well . The developers don't have enough time and energy to interact with sales persons . They sometimes go to hospitals to put up a presentation or two about how the drug works and then there's food ; that's about it .

They RUINED her character. I didn’t like this storyline of her working at Bernadette’s company. Their company is essentially evil. They create diseases and decide them. 🤦♂️. I also hated Bernadette overtime, I hate that they turned Penny into Bernadette as well. Did the EXACT woman, only Penny, sometimes afraid of Bernadette. The writers (and Chuck Lorre), are IDIOTS.

Can I recommend something to you that you’ll LOVE because it fixes the problems the show had, to be more specific, problems with Penny’s character and how much of a C U Next Tuesday she became?
This show turns psychopaths, bullies and narcissists into funny characters just by adding a fake audience laugh...take that away and you have a horror show.

Perfect example of just how bad the writing got for the characters by this point in the show lol. Bernadette is toxic and a bully and they basically reinforce it with Penny and say it's a job well done. Guess it's fine when it's the pretty girls

Don’t make me laugh. The finale has a false sense of closure. Penny doesn’t respect her husband, and this job is part of the reason why she treats him like shit.

That's called mobbing (bullying at work) and it shouldn't be funny, admired or praised. There's evidence that it's linked to several mental and physical diseases as any other type of bullying and it should be reported. No one deserves to be treated like sh*t.

It’s really incredible how they ruined both these characters over time.
They ruined every character in the later episodes.
When they add the girls it became to much like FRIENDS (the seasons everyone dated each other) and Raj as a token ethnicity. Just look at the cast picture at the end of the clip.
I know right. Penny working for a company was just… what were they thinking. They should’ve just given her the Joey Tribianni treatment. At least, it could’ve been more entertaining than this GARBAGE. Chuck Lorre is an idiot, and always ruins his shows.

It’s not even a laugh track, though. It’s filmed in front of a live studio audience. I was part of said audience twice.

I like penny's career arc.
Ew. It’s what RUINED her character. I really wish they didn’t make her work at the company. I wish they had made her quit, because I hate that she ended up becoming exactly like Bernadette. The writers (and Chuck) are idiots. She herself said she hated that job, and I had hoped that it would be foreshadowing in that, like Chandler she would quit, and do something she actually likes. This job also made her treat Leonard like shit. Penny became a SHITTY BITCH.
That's not Penny. She should be lovable. Glad the network began charging $10 a month, that's when I stopped watching.

The Big Bang Theory: A show that teaches us that being yourself is wrong, emotional connection isn't as important in a relationship as sex or money, and that science should always be used to make as much money as possible.

This is where they jumped the shark. No way could Penny be an uneducated not all that bright ever ever get a job in pharmaceutical sales. Unless she slept slept with the boss.
Yeah, I always had my bone to pick with this idea as well - although I do wish Penny success, and there is always a little part of me that kind of wished that the acting thing had panned out better, if not in the way, she had always dreamed of…
But maybe have Penny instead hired for a small job at the company with Bernie getting her maybe a secretary or receptionist job… I feel like that’s more realistic and still a good way for Penny to show her people skills - hell it could get her positive attention at the company and maybe more motivated to finish her education 🎓 so she could be qualified for more complex work and then work her way up
If you search around, you'll see that pharma reps need to graduate, and Penny didn't.
The companies prefer someone with a degree. Penny doesn't have one.
Maybe the writers thought Penny needed a job, and we'll make her a pharma rep.
In any case, it is not believable.
I would have liked to see Penny complete school (without bullying anyone to write her papers)
A big part of the job is to look pretty - there's a character on "Scrubs" played by Heather Locklear that makes Dr. Cox furious because she's a sale representative that uses her looks and flirtation to make sales, no matter how dubious is the drug she's selling.

There's no hard stop degree requirements for a sales job, you guys are dreaming. Plenty of people get into sales position purely through connections or prior work history. Penny especially got her starting job from favoritism; Bernadette got her the interview, she got the job because the boss also hated Bernadette and her lack of degree / experience was even noted but nothing about her getting the job is impossible. Someone getting hired despite being grossly unqualified happen every second of every day.
Lol It's funny how people are too sensitive with bossy characters, you're supposed to laugh at these bitchy moments they have instead of feeling annoyed by them, it's fiction! And even if you relate bc of similar situations, you're watching a cartoonish version of it. The same shit happened in the Glee fandom with the main character Rachel Berry, the fandom had a lot of whiners about how awful she acted sometimes, and me liking her so much bc of her talent, and admitting she is written as an annoying diva, I couldn't do other than laugh at her tantrums, I mean, she got punished for it many times anyway.
Penny's character is still normal and as part of maturing as a woman..
With Bernadettes bullying at work,, im not sure if their trying to make her into a cartoon character or, just dont know what else to do w/her..
Bernadette was portrait as a mean girl previously... the scavenger hunt that she teams up with Leonard, girl is ruthless.

They never should have moved from the base characters and added romantic pairing for everyone. It lost its identity
I really hated Penny working this job; it’s what ruined her character. It also made her treat her husband like shit. Women like Penny should not be making more than the husband, especially when they constantly put them down and call them pathetic.
