None of us girls had anywhere near the courage to say what Taylor so eloquently expresses in her songs. We had Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive". As generic as it was, it literally was the ONLY song that expressed what so many of us were feeling. And that's why it's iconic and widely known to this day. Throughout the years, there have been a few female artists that had success with recording empowering songs. Shania Twain did it with "Man! I Feel Like a Woman", Carrie Underwood was badass with "Before He Cheats" and Beyonce cut off some balls with several of her songs. I admire and respect the talent of all these women, as well as others I didn't mention. I applaud their guts and courage to push the envelope. But it's clear to me that no other female artist has been as successful as Taylor Swift in writing songs of female empowerment so masterfully that millions of people across the world are, not only moved by it, but are able to recite all the words. That is utterly remarkable!!!
