Both Denmark and Norway declared themselves neutral but that didnt matter to the Nazis. If they had decided to invade or occupy a country they did. If Germany/the nazis had respected other countries wishes about wanting to be neutral/not wanting to be invaded or occupied the second world war wouldnt have taken place. (I mean Poland that was the first country Hitler invaded didnt want to be part of a war either. Most countries in Europe didnt and several efforts were made trying to prevent the war from breaking out). Interesting video and reaction!

Sweden, Norway, Denmark and The Netherlands (but especially the scandinavian countries) were seen as ”superior” by the germans so they treated these countries better than other countries. Even though they occupied Denmark and Norway they gave them more freedom because they saw them as ”relatives”.
      .
The german regime also encouraged scandinavians to join their army as they wanted more blonde ”arian” soldiers but very few swedes joined the SS - around 300 men I think. (Also very few danes and norweigans joined but still more from these countries than from Sweden, probably because they were occupied and exposed to more nazi propaganda).
      .
Sweden would have been much more difficult to occupy as it is so big and oblong with massive forrests and long boarders why the nazis refrained from doing so. (Denmark was for an ex very easy in comparison.) But obviusly, if Germany had continued to be succesful in the war, they would have occupied Sweden sooner or later. Sweden has lots of natural resources they would have been very interested in.

@@memoblom2112 Yes, Swedish people was what Hitler wanted his people to look like, the "true Arians". But also, we had a "aristocracy" that was very German friendly in the 30-40s. That part is often forgotten in these stories. For example, our king at the time (Gustav V) sent a telegram to Hitler, when Germany attacked Russia, thanking him for dealing with the "Bolshevik plague hotbed". He also had personal contact with Nazis in Sweden, which the monarchy tried to keep quiet.

Danish just open their borders for the German troops (after 4 soldiers died) Norway least put some effort to invasion.. F***in punch of sissys, Imo!! No offence to my fellow nordic friends, but still...
We were allies with Germany but the situation was way different (between a rock and hard place) Yeah, germans burned lappland (about 2/5 of our land), but least we got rid of those troops! 🙄

In a way Austria was the first country Nazi Germany invaded... "Austria was part of Nazi Germany from 13 March 1938 (an event known as the Anschluss) ... Nazi Germany's troops entering Austria in 1938 received the enthusiastic support of most of the population."

this was an OK video why Germany did not invade sweden. The problem it lets out lots of important things that happened around Sweden and WW2. watching this only give you 20% of the total picture. You could include US plans to invade Sweden, Russian bombing of Stockholm.(russian spy arrested in Sweden) The allies bombing of a train in Sweden. Ball bearing sold to UK that was crucial for their airplanes, Ericsson decoded all information sent from Norway to Germany then we sent the information to the allies (information that lead to the sinking of Bismarc), sinking of many of swedish ships both by russian and germans. almost every plane in Finland came from Sweden, all the pilots was trained in sweden. Doctors, nurses truckdriver was in Finland helping. It was an insane amount of weapons and amunition sent to Finland. after germanys invation of France they took the French mines under control and by 1941 Swedens ore was not that important anymore.
There are so many things that was clasified for 30-50 years after the war. Sweden had no chance to stand against germany in 1939, germany was strong and we were weak. weaker germany got and Sweden got stronger the more we could refuse germany. Then seeing countrys like Denmark, Norway, Belgium, Poland, netherland and france falling so easy did not make it better. Surronded from all side with the threat of invasion from the allies, Germany and russia. It could not be easy to run the country at this time. (with an german friendly king to)

Germany needed Swedish Iron, and they did plan to invade Sweden, based on info from the German connection flights between Norway and Germany, being allowed over Sweden for German Military Planes!
But then "Shit Happens", mostly named: Stalingrad and some military problems became much more pressing than to free enough troops to invade Sweden!

Surströmming... The Nazis couldn't invade, because Sweden had invented Surströmming.

And now Sweden and Finland joined our NATO alliance just recently, which of course is tricky with the new borders, Russia is simply threatening, what will happen in Ukraine is a mystery to me, but Europe Union has invited them to come for negations for an initiation :)
