The beginning of this video discussing expectations, made me realize that the A-Team Top 100 will be split between the Yi's and the C's (Cleghorn and Cannady), as the more Euro Centric Yi's and more Amerithrashy C's.
This is one of the best games from CMON. The tension between the heros and the sin is fantastic. The mechanics where you never know when the sin will take a turn and that the heroes have to choose thier own doom so often is great.
I originally skipped on this one because I thought many of the Sins designs were dumb - they're just tentacle zombies. Many of Sin's don't even have models that correlate well with the Sin. However, Zee's constant praising of the game eventually got me to pick up a copy that was being sold secondhand. And, this is an amazing game. It's a tense game up until one side finally wins. It has a good mechanism for preventing player elimination.
yeah the sins could have been all one army and just different cards for each :\ i do like the different powers of the acolytes however and how thematic the decks are to the sins.
This game is so under-appreciated. The mind games you can play as Sin player, or the intense co-op needed between the Faith players to stand a chance. And the balance with that corruption mechanism. I’m a Euro gamer by heart, but this is my top thematic game.
Can anyone confirm, they said "Expoding Dice"? That mechanic is the main reason my family sort of regrets selling off Arcadia Quest. Love the catchupalooza! keep'em coming.
i've seen people just get mired in a fire and it was hilarious. 2 fires caused them to roll as it burned them alive. the bad guys dice just get hit+, good guys get a good boost. The corruption mechanic is delightful and the unknown 'will the sin respond or not' to eveyr action
It is a common feature of Eric Lang games that there is one strategy more obvious than others. Khorne in Chaos in the Old World, the Loki strategy in Blood Rage, and stacking monsters as the Sin player in the Others are all examples of this. Often, players new to the game pronounce this strategy as “BROKEN!” and write off the game. But Lang designs his games to be played many times, and if you stick with them you learn they are much more balanced than that first impression.
Definitely worth talking about these games... it would be crazy only to talk about games in shops, as there are so many great games sitting on peoples shelves that deserve to be played. I hope really hope (and believe) this channel is about games, and not about selling them.
11:32 This brings up an interesting edge case in language. "Putting out fires" is a metaphor for rushing around and solving smaller objectives in gaming. Chris says "literal fires" because in this game, some of those small objectives are "fires". Camilla jokes that these are not "literal fires" because that would mean real-life fire. "Literal" is meant to distinguish between metaphor and reality, but we don't have a word for distinguishing between metaphor and a REPRESENTATION of reality.
love seeing these. appreicate knowing more about games that i missed more fully. Wishing there was some clips here and there of plays but I can understand that adds more editing
love the game, have it all! love twisting the knife to encourage them to take more corruption every chance i can. It comes down to that final dice rolls so often! so tense and being able to pick your path in the mission is a neat mechanic too. it doesn't get as much play in our group as my buddy's Cthulhu and love to see how they remixed the mechanics into that co-op version
Agreed RE the balance: this is easily the most balanced 1 vs many game I've ever played. Usually a feel like I have to pull my punches somewhat in the 'dungeon master' role but not here; both sides need to play hard if they want to win. And regarding the way that FAITH players need to play, since I'm usually the Sins player I tell them that your initially characters are likely going to die so make sure it's on your terms not mine; make sure they go out in a blaze of glory.

Oh wow! Glad to see this game getting some love! I just made videos about the Go7 inserts for these on my channel and they're my least popular ones by far. It really is a fun one, shame the KS didn't do better for CMON.
I first heard about this game when Zee did his Top 10 Horror Games and immediately fell in love with the concept. Got in on clearance on Miniature Market (they always have deep sales on CMON stuff) and really liked how the mechanics incorporated the theme.
Ive played it once during its release year and I loved it! Due to its "heavy-ish" nature, it's almost too intimidating to setup and play often... but I have since been collecting its expansions and waiting for the next opportune time to purchase
Amazing game. I don’t know how hard it is to acquire the expansion packs at this point, but there’s enough in base game to keep you out of mischief for a bit. Probability the best 1vs many I’ve ever played the corruption mechanic is absolutely delicious.
I have not played this one in a while, but I remember enjoying playing both sides. Our games were usually very close, but the faith players can definitely not hesitate and need to use there extra characters.
I've played this game quite a bit and NEVER had one side get steam rolled. Maybe it's our group of gamers, but it seems like more often than not it really comes down to that last few actions in the last round. It doesn't make it off the shelf as much as it used to, but I'll gladly play it any time it's brought up on a game night. I can't say for sure it's in my top 10 anymore either, but for sure top 20 and a game I never plan on getting rid of.
Brought it and tried playing it and remember just being lost as the sins player, ended up giving up and selling this game and didn't think it would get to the table. Possibly should try it again.
I've been eyeing this at a half price books for over a year and wondering if I should buy it. The problem is its sitting at $79 and i've been waiting for a markdowns. After watching this I might just go pick it up anyway.
I've played the game once. There were 4 of us and it was the Sloth scenario. We (the Faith) lost horribly and it took 5 hours. Something went very wrong.
This was super helpful. I actually managed to get a collection of this crazy cheap and plan to break it out soon. I doubt I will keep all the expansions. Any advice on the best ones to keep and/or shed?
I have all the content for this game and it is a great game as soon as you understand it, I can say. Criminally overlooked game. One of the best CMON games.
These are specifically not review videos, so we don’t put the ratings up there. For the new person/people, these are typically filmed after a single play of the game.
Yeah that killed it for me, I played it but then wanted more and it was impossible to find and at a reasonable price, so I ended up selling it sadly after a while
@@Skarpo89 There were 5 expansions Sins and 4 expansion Teams available at retail. That's 7 Sins, 8-9 corrupted, 30 heroes, a bunch of tiles/scenarios, and more. @@VaultBoy13 I am not in the States nor anywhere where eBay would be a valid choice to buy stuff unfortunately, I could buy from eBay but you should at least triple those prices with shipping and import taxes to my country, whereas the base game as it's in retail is obtainable here and in my language too (which is more important depending on who I play it with), one big problem with CMON KS exclusives is that even if the game is great and the retail copies get translated to other languages, the exclusives will forever remain English only, and that sucks. What I really wanted was one or two other teams and some more sins yes, at least at the moment of me selling it, I'm sure eventually I'd have enjoyed more stuff.
I had to go all in on this design at the time of the KS. Though I wish the theme were a bit different, perhaps an IP that could use the corruption mechanism just as well, the gameplay is unique and one versus many games really work for me. Really need to table this game more often and I think Chris made a good point but luckily it seems the game is not hard to find.
I really enjoy this series, looking forward to more! I definitely ignored this game because of the Eric Lang and particularly the CMON connection. I absolutely hated blood rage, and didn't find Ankh to be much better. I might just have to give this one a try though!
Additional “Sin” boxes are really good to have as the give the highest degree of variability/replayability. The rest of the expansion content is good, but not critical.
The Sin boxes feel pretty critical if you end up enjoying the game. It's where the most replayability will be found. It's also a game where unique minis for each Sin and the minions seem pretty unnecessary. I realize that's part of the production, but when you look at most of the Sins there's no strong pull that says, "Oh, this does look like a representation of Lust." I was able to find a good deal for the game (with most expansions) secondhand, but my biggest complaint for the game is that you really only needed 8 minis for all the sins. It's a game that could've been cheaper and had all the sins in the core box. As far as the other expansions, grabbing one the teams will provide some variety for the players. Otherwise, the game will be played with the same set of heroes. So, it's not a bad idea to grab either the Beta, Delta, or Gamma boxes since they expand the hero roster. I probably wouldn't buy more than one of these. (Miniature Market has the Omega Team, which was exclusive, for an OK price.) This is a game with a ridiculous amount of retail content. You don't need all of it, nor do you need any of the Kickstarter exclusives.
Love The Others; was hoping for more but there is heaps of content (even in the core box). Also love Cthulhu: DMD as it is, but would have been over the moon if they had used The Others' system! (although it is definitely more accessible as is). Hoping they have a reprint/rerun at some stage so others can get access to the other sins (and I can replace some minis that got broken!), but from what I've seen of CMON they kind of abandon a lot of their IPs quite quickly :(
Only played a friend’s copy once but loved it. I think if the art wasn’t so gross, this would be a staple for my game group. But the esthetics keep people away.
The Faith Team, when playing with new players, will almost always win, if the Sin player does what it is obvious. It does require more plays and getting to know everything.

There's honestly nothing at all enjoyable for me to hear 2 people talk at length about that, then Zee talking about what the chatter was about a game when it came out and... honestly it was too much of a slog.
