- Drivelapse video of several Pittsburgh area freeways starting from I-70 near Washington, PA and then following I-79 North through the southern suburbs, and then heading westerly along the brand new section of Pittsburgh's Southern Beltway all the way to Parkway West at PGH Airport. The video then heads easterly along I-376 (Parkway West) back towards the city and then finishes off heading again north along I-79 to the Neville Island Bridge over the Ohio River.
It's awesome to have you back in the States! Asphalt Planet is easily one of the best timelapse driving channels on UA-cam.

The engineering that went into Pittsburgh's freeways and really through the entire state is truly amazing. I wonder if the gore striping is something new the Turnpike Commission is doing or if PennDOT is doing statewide. Love seeing the new modern freeway design with concrete pavement during the fall colors. Great video.
I noticed that striping too. I don't know if it will become the new standard, but I thought that it looked pretty cool too.
I don't know if you noticed, but for the new ramp from I-79 North to the Turnpike, it looks like the contractor screwed up laying out the placement for the slab where the northbound ramp will join the mainline on the left. The lane lines kind of kink awkwardly at the end of the spiral curve. It doesn't really matter, the ramp drives just fine, but its definitely noticeable.

That vehicle you passed with the flashing lights was a work zone speed camera vehicle - likely not recording since it was in motion though

I don't have an EZ Pass for my car.
The way PA Turnpike & NY Thruway cashless toll system works is the same as 407 ETR non transponder toll while ones with E-Z Pass pay a different price. However American E-ZPass drivers on 407 ETR are paid in Canadian dollars non transponder equipped prices. To solve that issue have 407 ETR accept NY Thruway PA OH MA & NJ Turnpikes EZ Pass then 407 ETR drivers can pay them on E-Z Pass prices

Thanks for the comment. I'm not sure why it wasn't designated as an interstate. I think it might just be a Pennsylvania thing.
@@AsphaltPlanet1 Old comment I know, but the hope is that PA-576 will one day be designated as an auxiliary interstate, and the idea is that it would be (hence why it was built to interstate standards). For now though, it's just a state route with interstate standards (like MO-364 near St. Louis).
When are you going to do the Chicago area highways and Tollways
I have some footage of the Tollways around Chicago, but the freeways that run through the Loop are actually kind of hard to film. All of those roads are so chronically congested all of the time.
That happens all the time when have 11,000,000 people All live in the Chicagoland area. When the population of Illinois is 12,500,000 plus all the people coming in from Indiana, Wisconsin, Iowa, Michigan to enjoy the lakefront and the downtown area and people catching flight's to Chicago O'Hare International Airport the Hub for Midwest
On a side note Pittsburgh's freeways seem a little inadequate.
For the city of Pittsburgh itself, its freeways are pretty constrained by the city's geography in my opinion.
Nah, but the transit system here definitely is inadequate. I’ll take a T extension over a toll road any day.
Nice video, not so nice highway. A lot of property owners got screwed and are getting screwed for this politician pet project.
If only they'd connect 576 to pa43 it'd be a great alternative to get into Pittsburgh
The leg into Pittsburgh has been cancelled for good. Which kind of makes the rest of this boondoggle pointless.

This road isn’t finished yet, is way outside of the city in the outer suburbs, and has very few cars using it. This road being wider would be absolutely no help at all at improving our bad traffic (I assume you’re talking about I 376’s traffic).
By “this road” I mean 576.
Widening highways has been proven to only lead to even more traffic. Look at all of the sunbelt city examples that have given us decades of evidence to prove this fact.
