The government of Botswana gives student loans but most people hardly ever pay them back. In fact there are a lot of loans and subsidies for citizens e.g in agriculture, private businesses, building homes but a lot of us take them for granted. Travelling with a Botswana passport is a breeze but only a handful of us ever bother to for greener pastures outside. I think racial discrimination is another no for most Batswana hence home is best. Orphans are taken care of by government until they go to University, and the poor people get food stamps monthly

Actually people in Southern Africa do this all the time, its quite commonplace - in our villages we donate if we want a school a clinic etc its quite cmmon actually.
When its ploughing seasn what was done especially in history nowadays unfortunately not everyone ploughs. But generally people would plough for each other come together do one farm or homestead until its done and then the next and so on and so on until end of ploughing season. BECAUSE there was no irrigation but we relied on and still do the little rain we got.

A lot of countries and corporations contributed and still contribute, from USA, Canada, Denmark, The Netherlands("Holland"), AngloAmerican Corporation(De Beers), even Swaziland and Lesotho and more. This Africanomics word of mouth propaganda is wrong and detrimental to sound financial thinking and progress. Population of Botswana in 1976 was below 800,000.Femove the indigent people and Khoi&San people who could not contribute a cow or anything to the building of the University. How does that build and sustain such a big University? Independent University was established 1973 as breakaway of UBBL established 1963(University of Bechuanaland, Basutoland & Swaziland).
