Am American (from Michigan). I would call the aforementioned gherkin a pickle, though “gherkin” might refer to a particular variety. We can also buy pre-chopped pickled cucumbers sold as “relish” - the most common is “sweet relish” although I’ve seen “dill relish” which has a more savo(u)ry flavo(u)r. The size of the chunks in relish is the same size to which you cut your pickle.
Haha thanks for the breakdown! (The acknowledgements of the “u”s in savoury and flavour, even though they’re not in the American spellings, was highly appreciated 😂)
It's a YES from me! I love the concept of this video and how well-made it is. Not to mention the recipe itself, of course (I will definitely be trying this sauce!). Add your humour to the mix and you get a perfect cooking show, if you ask me 👌 Keep it up!
Thanks Hanna!! So glad to hear you enjoyed it! The nice thing about this is the sauce can really be used with anything (and one can easily create a vegan/vegetarian variation without compromising on flavour)!
This is excellent! I can't decide what my favorite part was - the voiceover (clink, clink, tap tap tap), the beautiful apartment, the Hunzi-esque editing, or the actual cooking. 11/10 stars!
That's it! I just couldn't figure out what the edit reminded me of. I got slight Binging with Babish vibes, but it has definitely got a Hunzi-feel to it as well. I'd say that is a great combination, especially if you mix in some of Matt's humour and editing style.
Haha thanks 😄 I wasn’t planning a voice over but had to channel my inner Babish when Sav complained about not being able to focus with me babbling in the background 😅
LOVE THIS!! I like the little drawings, transitions and visuals and the fact that your humor is all over the place. the two cameras totally make it feel professional. maybe get a light on the left side of your face to make it look even better! I'm excited for more cooking videos 😊 I was also surprised that you had 'Gut und Gunstig' sauerkraut, I thought you could only get that brand in Germany!
Ooh yes! Thanks I much Clare 😊 Also yes, great idea about the link in the description. I was meaning to film a little bit to go on the end of the video but I only finished the edit at 5:30AM this morning and thought Sav wouldn’t appreciate me projecting for the mic 😂 but yes, need to redo my description info I think 👌🏼
2 minutes in and the format is already looking great. The editing works perfectly. Getting slight Binging with Babish vibes from some of the shots, which is a good thing!
Dude this is amazing! I’m 2 mins in but paused to comment! The editing and the multi cameras the audio everything is next level! I hope there is a bts or some talking of the method! Loving it man!
Horrog such a great video loved the set up multi cameras and voice over! So glad im watching this in the morning so im eating breakfast as I would have gotten to hungry is I was in bed lol.
The fun you had making and editing this is easy to see and it cured my grumpy mood 😆👍 Nice one! As for pickles, most people I know In the US just call them pickles - the default is usually a dill pickle and if you want otherwise, you specify, including a gherkin. On the topic, fried pickles are a common thing ‘round these here parts.
It was so hard cause while I was doing the things I was narrating it in my head, but then when I came to editing I’d forgotten what I’d thought of for the voice over and so I really caught myself off guard with the knife thing 😂😂
Do more of your cooking. How about a nice curry. Shame it was funny to see your hand movements while you couldn't speak as sav was busy. Hope you kept the other half for her. Looked really good. I always do my onions the way you do but I add just a pinch of garlic and some fruit chutney with mine while it's frying . Take care matt. Look forward to more recipes
Looks delicious. I live in Seattle and our specialty hot dog here is: Toasted bun smeared with softened cream cheese, (choice of sausage), sauteed onion, and yellow mustard. I do mine with polish sausage, spicy mustard, sweet pickle relish and sometimes hot sauce.
Your game just moved to the majors. And my appetite is now screaming for hotdogs...if that was the result...POG! The sauce you made, would do well on burgers as well! NOM NOM NOM!
Love hot dogs. Just like the burger, less heavy, you can add just about anything as a topping. You did a great service with your version. Looks amazing. Cheers!
I identify with being a gherkin in the week and being a pickle at the weekend 🤪 definitely pickles are American, gherkins here in UK, McDonald's burgers being prime example, gherkins not pickles!
sliceofmatt heating it up would make the bread softer. You could put the bun, crumb side down on a buttered pan. For more heat through the bun, put the lid over the bun. Then you have buttered toastiness, and it’s even softer. That’s the American diner style. Otherwise, we have some places that do a steamed, very soft bun.
Mmmmh, looked delish! Made me hungry, that’s for sure! How about cooking a SA speciality, I don’t even know one...... Oh, Blue already lost his blue eyes, they‘ve turned green, right? Have a nice we you three 👍✌️👊💜🍀
Love that this popped up on my home page today (don't use UA-cam or social media much these days). Hope you're well man!! Whatsapp me at some point. Would love to catch up. :)
Do More of this, it’s good
Thanks Jesse! 😊

@@sliceofmatt "I'm not babbling you're babbling" - Matt's last words before he was told to sleep on the couch, totally worth it ?
Slicing it up on Slice of Matt! :-P

New uploads! Fresh content. Love it.
Really enjoy your cooking vids.....more please!
More on the way! 😊
Soooo goood Matt! Your vids are so under rated! You’re so talented! - you should put the patreon link in your vdescriptions.

I’ve got a great surprise in store 🤓
Actually enjoy this style of video Matt 👌🏼
Thanks so much for the feedback Craig! ☺️☺️
More cooking videos please 😍😁
Hahaha hilarious, loving the voice overs

That was great! Will you do more national food day recipes?
That’s a great idea!

Haha I’m glad I could lift your mood! I have heard of the ol fried pickle before but yet to try one!!
YES
I'm from California and we call them Pickles. My New York friends call them Gherkins.
This was a great cooking show. I loved the sound effects.
Thanks Pedigru! Interesting that they call them different things on the east and west coast 🤔
So random lol, self charades at the end on point!! 🤣
It was so hard cause while I was doing the things I was narrating it in my head, but then when I came to editing I’d forgotten what I’d thought of for the voice over and so I really caught myself off guard with the knife thing 😂😂
in "Merica we call it RELISH :-) We have gherkins as well as 100's of other "pickle" varieties just in the cucumber family alone.
Sounds like a dream 🤤
Yes, more episodes please!
Mooi Stukie Werk. Brilliant Video Mr Mat
Hahaha love it, a lot of work for one hotdog, but hey, as long as it was good 🌭
and remember - theres always time for innuendo
nice video man, really entertaining :D
Thanks Stefan 😊
The mustard bottle looked a bit like sun screen at first 😄
I thought exactly the same!

sliceofmatt The cream cheese really makes it!
Sliceofmatt withdraw finally over.
Apologies for making you go cold turkey 🥶

YES! Great burger sauce too 👌🏼👌🏼 glad you enjoyed and approve of the format! ☺️
In times of Bone Apple Tea being cancelled, You channel Amiel with that voiceover :D
Have they actually been cancelled? Or just in the social media “cancelled” sense?
sliceofmatt the video part is cancelled for now. Read up on it, they are Your rivals. :D
Great job.
Thanks Helen 😊
Haha Blue could be happy it's not a national Hot Cat day :) You look like a hipster barista in a fancy cafe :) Funny vid!
😂 the denim apron (and beard) has that effect!
great video!
❤️ big love Harvey

It’s been my go to every time Sav suggests we have hot dogs 😌 making the sauce is something to do while waiting for the onions to fry?
*!

Yum! Do you ever toast the bread? Or steam it in foil. 👍🏾
Not a bad shout! I wouldn’t mind to toast the bread but you do need it to be a bit malleable so that it doesn’t just squish all the fillings out 😅

Haha, an inspiration!
Homemade biltong please!
Horrog! I was looking for the sauce recipe lol
Someone did suggest I include the recipes in the description which I’ll have to start doing!

Matt, Sav needs you to be quiet. That hot dog looks so damn good.
Side effects include smelling like fried onions.
