The stage was set for the marquee contest. Two of cricket’s best playing nations in this world cup were facing off. But, I was loath to predict a winner as I wondered whether it was time for the ‘law of averages’ to catch up with India. But then I, also, reassured myself that this ‘average’ thingy could happen anytime after the World Cup or after some of the legends have retired.
A brilliant start by Hitman Sharma was not wasted away by the batters following him. Rohit, while he was batting, made the wicket look pretty easy paced which was not the case as subsequent batters realised. Birthday boy and GOAT, Virat Kohli, was due for a century as he was unfortunate to miss it on the last few occasions. Once the shine was off, the ball began to grip and hold making batters more circumspect. The accurate Maharaj enjoyed a respect not usually given to other spinners by Kohli and Iyer thanks to the nature of the pitch.
When it was time for the SA’s batters to take centre stage, they were all at sea against India’s marauding quicks. Once the SA’s batters were nicely softened and primed for the kill, they were presented to India’s spin duo for further dissection of their batting skills. All the SA batters seem to have come to the match devoid of skills, courage, and confidence. What, however, was clearly visible was SA’s choke DNA. This match could leave deep scars which could be reopened by India in the event both meet again in this World Cup.

Most cricket pundits honestly believed this match would have gone to the wire. These experts are increasingly being made to look like a bunch of ignoramuses by a ruthless team.

Bro Sachin batted at no.5 and no.6 till 1994 , he almost played 95 matches till that point. Sachin also played at no. 4 for some months between 1999 to 2004 . So, that's the main reason for Sachin to reach 49 centuries at slower rate than Kohli.

Don't you guys think that the reason Kohli is as destructive as he is and as important to the fortunes of the Indian team is that even on the most difficult of surfaces he will covert dot balls to singles , Ones to two's and take three's down to long on and long off on the strength of his running alone. That is practically stealing and you can't defend against that . Because when you come to bat it's no longer that easy to come by runs as it was for Virat. Kohli grew up idolizing his hero and it's a testament to kohli's determination to break his record . Records are meant to be broken and one thing people forget , In Sachin's era the game was bowler friendly with India having one of the the weakest bowling line ups . They always had to chase big totals or score bigger than par to win games . Right now India's fast bowlers are Elite and probably the most dangerous in the world. Kohli benefits from that , that being said I Hope he scores more 100's and wins more games for India and gets the cup .

If to compare, today’s generation doesn’t know what’s Sachin and what he was to the opponents. The single point agenda of the opponents was to knockout Sachin and they were all sure they win in succession. When Sachin gets on to the field the whole nation used to put expectations and watched him. When Sachin was out, the team collapsed like a pack of cards. People used to switch off TVs. The current gen knew nothing about Sachin. Sachin was a phenomenon, an aura! That kind of dependency on Sachin was somewhat reduced by the great captaincy of Sourav with the introduction of young and tough minds like Sehwag & Yuvi. But till Sachin retired, he stood numero uno even after 40. Today no such dependency on Kohli. And lastly, Sachin and Virat played 2011 World Cup. Who scored better in that series between the two? Also Sachin’s debut was in 1989 and till 1994 for about 75+ matches in his initial career he didn’t hit a century. His duty was to hit as much as in the initial overs and in the process he threw his wicket. Kohli is undoubtedly a great batsman, but comparing him to Sachin is just a farce and an insult to the God of Cricket.
