Great video as usual. I personally would say to start with an identity, start collecting your favorite Pokémon and go slowly because it can get really overwhelming. I PC Alakazam and Gyarados and that was a great way to start for me and I don’t feel like I regret those purchases. I would really emphasis just starting slow. Then you can broaden your horizons slowly and see what interests you and personally it’s helped me sell and trade some things so I don’t get overwhelmed. I got to the point that I had some things in the collection that I completely forgot about. I think as long as you’re aware of your collection and happy about it without it being overwhelming then that’s the ultimate goal. The way I organize my slabs are say Alakazams, Gyarados, Charizard, pikachus, special promo cards I like and then one offs. Some of my one offs include blastoise from expeditions which I love the artwork and some delta species cards. But I like to organize my slabs, raw cards in top loaders, and binders in a certain way so I don’t lose track of what I have. Sports cards is a whole different thing that I’m learning to be better about.
The hobby is so massive it's very easy to get lost in the sauce without an identity imo. Nothing wrong with picking up other stuff outside your collection goal though and great point on the impulse purchases.
I think not having a specific collectors identity does make your collection unique. If you just buy random cards that you like, then you have a very personalized collection. Like, who does have that blue Lego figure, that Zapdos card and that old book in the same collection. That's a very exclusive collection!
I full set collected the reverse EX delta species cards, now moving onto obtaining higher value cards/grails. I recently made a large purchase of PSA 9 slabs, including a reverse holo dark dragonite from TRR. I personally use cgc so I'm hoping that some may cross into 10s 😄

true! deviating from your goal can be fun!

thats a good point, I agree!
I agree with this! I collect the azumarill line as one goal, then get excited to buy modern singles as well
azumarill is an interesting pokemon to go after. What are some of your favorite cards of it?
