Norwegian guitarist Berit Hagen is truly my Commander-in-Chief! She is an incredible virtuosa electric metal-classical guitarist! I am so amazed and humbled by her incredible playing ability.

This is one of the best version i ever heard. I absolutely love how you alternate, and compliment each other with bass, high notes, shell chords or artificial harmonics. Very original interpretation of the finale. The artistic direction of this video is flawless. Video quality and shots angles are on point. As the manager for "The Commander In Chief" I have quietly observed the lovers and haters comment on this video for 5 years, despite the fact that I am the one making her videos. I will now set the record straight about certain "issues" that I am tired of seeing popping up, in comments by self proclaimed "experts" and others. Btw, my musical background is from classical music and I have been her manager from day 1. I was there for every minute of the recording sessions, the rehearsals and the long hours studying the classical pieces. I have documented pretty much everything she has ever done, musically. I will address these issues here: 1) if she knows the piece, or as some people have claimed "she didn't properly learn it" OR - an even better claim from some - "she is a sloppy guitar player" 2) the sound of the electric guitar on the recording 3) why the uniform and airplane 1) Does she know the piece? We decided to record a full classical crossover album after her tremendous success with the 1st in the world guitar recording of Sarasate's masterpiece for violin; "Zigeunerweisen Op.20," in 2013. The viral video is here on her channel. When deciding the pieces for the album, we knew we had to include Paganini, since so many people seem to think nothing can be more difficult to play. She deliberately chose the most challenging of his Caprices, seeing right away it was difficult, but nowhere near as difficult as "Zigeunerweisen" had been. Keep in mind that she DID NOT know how to read sheet music, while learning these classical pieces, so she memorised each note. I will repeat that; she memorised each and every note. A fact that stunned classical guitarist Craig Ogden, who has praised her prolific and prodigious memory, repeatedly. It was a huge job to map out and memorise each of these massive pieces, that took months and she did not only memorise them, she studied each note carefully, to decide how it would be best to play them. It was a massive job to find out where (and how) everything could be ideally played on the electric guitar - and HOW it should or could be done, properly. Together we studied a lot of violin versions of all the pieces we had chosen, and she quickly decided that her favourite version of this piece was the Heifetz version, which some of you so correctly have commented on. She even named her electric guitar "Heifetz" after studying these pieces. She wanted to be as true as possible to the violin sound and she experimented with a lot of different ways to play each and every note, in each and every part of the piece, to reach that goal, knowing full well that it would never sound like a violin, because of how it HAD to be played, to get the best result. Playing it with anything but a clean sound would be a travesty, since distortion while playing such pieces of music only serves one purpose: covering up string noise and imperfections in technique. Keep in mind also that on classical guitar you use all fingers and nails to pick with, but on electric you only have one guitar pick, which makes it much more difficult to play. By the time we went to record the music, after 6 months of intense preparations - each note, and how to perform it, was so well trained and programmed into her fingers and brain that she could play it in her sleep. That is why she could play it in the music video and walk around, having fun, while Craig, who relies on reading sheet music, did not have the same artistic freedom during the video shoots, since he was reading the music all the time. In the end, I think we manage to capture some great footage, that shows the great musical chemistry between these two world class players. It was fascinating to observe both artists in the recording studio, coming from such different musical backgrounds, having such different approaches and preparations, speaking two completely different musical languages; Craig being the classical scholar, reading music, knowing all the correct names for everything, while "The Chief" knew none of the correct classical terms and expressions, having memorised every note on the album, and figured out her way of playing each piece, based on what she heard coming out of the guitar. It was truly one for the history books. Many of the pieces of the album were recorded live, with both of them playing together. It was a truly magical experience to witness it all and we all had lots of fun. Although this piece is very challenging to play, it is "nothing" compared to the really big one: their 1st ever guitar recording of "Introduction & Rondo Capriccioso" which is also on the same album, and the video is here on her channel. The 10 minutes pieces has everything, when it comes to challenges and if you have not seen it, I strongly recommend doing it. It is lovely and impressive! I am posting a link with 1 minute from the OUTRO here in this comment, since that is the part that was so challenging that she did not even know if she would be able to do it properly, to her extremely high standards, and with the speed she wanted to do it, just a week before we traveled to the studio. However, she managed to do that as well. I never doubted she would. Based solely on her international success in Heavy Metal, when she was praised as "1 of 10 guitar gods" by leading magazine, Metal Hammer, UK, and the legendary Pantera producer Sterling Winfield, (Pantera, BBKing) who worked with Pantera for 10 years, said: "In my 20+ years as a producer and engineer I can honestly say that I have never seen anything like she has to offer," I find it abhorrent that anyone would even suggest that she is a "sloppy guitarist," or that she does not know this, or any other song she has recorded. Anyone saying such things after listening to her classical recordings clearly is delusional. May I suggest that those stating such things posts videos of themselves playing this the way THEY think it should be played? It is only fair that the world gets to see these geniuses perform this "as it should be done," so feel free to post videos of yourself right here, in the comment section. 2) The sound of the electric guitar. We had some pretty intense discussions in the studio about this. On "Zigeunerweisen" and "Introduction & Rondo" the sound is soft and beautiful - it rings out - and I was concerned about how dry the sound was on this particular piece, since it was possible some people would be distracted by that. The Chief explained very clearly to me how she muted the strings on purpose, since she felt very strongly it was the only good way to play those parts in a clean way. I let her have the final saying on that one. If you listen to the two other big pieces on the album you will hear the difference in tone, since they were not muted to the same extent. So the sound is the result of a deliberate way to play it by the person who knows this pieces the best, when it comes to playing it on electric guitar. 3) The uniform and the plane. There has been a few comments about this, so I will briefly comment on it. The Chief grew up with a pilot dad, who had been a fighter pilot before she was born. During her childhood she was surrounded by ex-military pilots, so it was not strange that she was drawn to a military look, when she started designing her own stage uniforms. Having a dad whose hobby is flying aerobatics, spending lots of times at small airfields, in hangars, etc throughout here life, it was something very familiar for her about shooting this video where we did. It is not her dad in the video, it is a friend of the family. Here is a short video from the OUTRO of "Introduction & Rondo." I have just started my own UA-cam channel, where I will post videos of "The Chief" and I talking about various aspects of what we do, how we work, etc. I will post behind the scenes footage from our musical journey and I will post videos that has nothing to do with music, relating to my own colourful life. This short video clip, 1 minute, is the most hellishly difficult thing "The Chief" has ever played. She tasked me with finding pieces for the album. Her brother and I felt it was almost too brutal to suggest "Introduction," after listing to several pieces that had never been done by guitarists before. We debated for some days, while she was consumed with memorising the Paganini piece. In the end we agreed to present the piece to her, and she took the challenge and delivered superbly. Enjoy! Please watch the full video here on her channel. It deserves way more attention. ua-cam.com/video/fgcA2lW1WQE/v-deo.html
I completely agree... The outro of the "Introduction & Rondo" had already impressed me... And you proudly highlight her skills when playing that section. Even Craig Ogden seems amazed in the video... :-)
@@danieleacquavera4107 Yes, I have been madly in love with her ever since I felt her first kick in my pregnant belly, many moons ago... Regards from the MOMager :)
It's sad that you've had to make a comment like this. I think the classical team are seeing an electric guitar and going "nonono" whilst the non-classical are getting whiny cause it's not like their usual stuff. It was a joy to listen to. I'm glad she didn't use reverb or distortion, as that wouldn't do the piece justice - it's all very clever and precise string work that adding extra noise would just kill it.
Thank you for noticing! We recorded this piece LIVE in the studio, sitting in the same room, facing each other. You pretty much breathe synchronised when you do something like that :) I think we had only 3 rehearsals before we recorded this.
This was Not a trivial task by any means. What this was was an amazing meeting of two different schools of thought, instruments and disciplines. Fantastic performance!!
As a guitarist of 38 years, it is extremely difficult to play electric without effects as she does and do it with such perfection! No area for mistakes, and I won't bother acknowledging how damn hot this girl is!!!!!!! WOW! Both are incredible!
I can't count how many times I've re-watched this video in the past week, but yes, in all regards, the playfulness, cleverness, and heart is outstanding, to say the least.
Doing that on a classic guitar is one thing (a very very difficult thing). Doing it on an ELECTRIC guitar is nothing short of insane. I wouldn't have believed this if I hadn't seen it. WOW!!!
I reckon this video might inspire a lot of young guitarists to investigate some good music! Two great performers deliver an excellent arrangement of Paganini's Caprice 24. This kind of guitar video makes me very optimistic about the future of guitar playing. It was Ywngie Malmsteem's Paganini inspired guitar work back in the 1980's that made me realise there were huge gaps in my guitar skills, and led to me taking up the classical guitar. It takes steel balls to play her part staccato with such a clean undistorted tone. BRAVO to both superb and very well done! Anyone who criticizes please give us a lesson with your playing on video...anyone...anyone...yep what I thought lol

Wow, that was great. The classical player was SO clean. Electric was very clean when you consider that it was all alternate picked. Great video overall !!
This is so much fun. The level of musicianship and talent and humor reminds me of Les Paul and Mary Ford (except in this case the commander is not secondary). There are so many examples of the Caprice 24 on the internet from purely straight versions by just about every notable violinist to Twoset and Hilary Hahn trading licks while hula hooping and Charles Berthoud's pretty impressive performance on electric bass to Marcin's kind of shocking knock-your-socks-off Paganini meets Tarrega version. While Heifetz or Hahn playing the original is literally breathtaking, I love and deeply admire all the amazing musicians who can take this wonderful virtuoso piece and play with it to show their magnificent, supernatural skills. Bravo and I truly believe that Paganini would have loved it as well.
Wow!!! It is superb ! 🤩🤩🤩 The arrangement is very cohesive, it's awesome and funny too ☺ - The staging is very original, and you are two great guitarists - Well done and thank you 👏👏👏
@@motri5935 acoustic guitar is often classified as an electric guitar that produces sound through acoustic means, this means steel strings, plectrum used etc. Classical guitar is an evolution from the lute that used nylon or gut strings and is completely fingerstyle.
The electric guitar played clean can be made more complex and "musical" sounding by use of alnico drivers and resonant pine cabinets. When you hear acoustic guitar you are hearing the fundamental and high end harmonics from the strings themselves while the fundamental's low end and low end harmonics resonates from the wood.Having two different sources in parallel I believe gives the complexity of tone there. With electric guitar,as used here, the sound source goes from the strings to the pickups to amplifier to speaker in series where you hear only the speaker, there is also little compression. Now if you introduce a resonant pine cabinet you are getting a bit more of a parallel source between the cabinet and speaker. It also adds a bit of compression by absorbing speaker vibrations. An alnico speaker has a compression effect to even moreso(the alnico magnetic field weakens in the response to other magnetic fields such as a voice coil induces)it has more *tonal* dynamics while being more compressed and smooth...IE you get smoother clipping than with ceramic or neodymium speakers (which I assume she uses, ceramic are by far most common)
Unique... Beautiful...Incredible interpretation!!! Absolutely loved this talented duo!!! Thank you!!!🌸☺️✌️I’ll definetly be watching the other videos too!!!
Nicolo Paganini must be very proud in his grave to see that his Caprice 24 for violin is played with mastery by two great guitar players. Total congratulations!! Nicolo Paganini debe estar muy orgulloso en su tumba al ver que su capricho 24 para violín es tocado con maestría por dos grandes interpretes de la guitarra. Felicitaciones Totales!!!
a little chorus or reverb should have paired with the palm muting on electric but otherwise great playing by both musicians and wonderfully created. Thanks for sharing!
The electric and classic guitar styles are very different approaches. With metal you can shred and play really fast, but classical style has the advantage with chords and polyphony because it's like 4 picks (with no up stroke) in the right hand. This is a great arrangement and excellent performance putting the different styles side to side!!!
appart from the piece and the great performance I love the intro with the war bird doing a barrel roll and an immelmann turn xD thats so cool xD and the tigermoth (replica I guess) in the back is also a piece of art itself. love it to bits!
Awesome music, always one of my faves. This version is so... just WOW! Loved it. It looks like you guys had some real fun, on top of making great music!
A very beautiful and creative music video, that is well shot and edited, combined with humor and a new take of the Battle of the sexes and guitars, classical vs electric, that demonstrate the versatile of the electrical guitar in the hands of a Woman Guitarista that paces behind the Male classical Guitarista like a Lioness stalking her prey; Bravo.
Creo que según como se le enseño al Maestro Paganini este les daria unos buenos reglazos en la cabeza... les falta mucho... aun para que realmente suene bueno.
Thanks! I hope Storm Alberto won't cause any damage, as it makes landfall. I lived in Florida for half a year and went to junior high school there. Loved it!
Wow-Sexy and sassy-sheer brilliance in playing technique-making it look easy when its xtremely difficult- Surely one of the best performances on UA-cam. The combinations of 'lectric and classical adds to the tongue in cheek performance.I salute you both Commander and Chief. Breathtaking performance!
I agree that the solo tone for the electric is not a "usual" one but I actually love the way both guitar sound when they play simoultaneously. Besides, that's a difficult piece to learn in its entirety! Well done!!

And I didn't know Ryan Seacrest could shred.
Even the blind hen finds grain.

She's striking again, overwhelmingly and beautifully. Gotta get that album!
I love how they look at each other and play of one another.
Had to come back. Just lovely. Can you do a concert here in Minnesota USA.
REAL LOUD.
I would love to! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Absolutely kicking guts! And what sweep-picking! Damn.
It takes steel balls to play her part staccato with such a clean undistorted tone. BRAVO to both superb and very well done! Anyone who criticizes please give us a lesson with your playing on video...anyone...anyone...yep what I thought lol
Thanks for noticing! ;)
thecommanderinchief1 thank you for sharing such inspired musicality and artistic expression! To God be all glory. When I was a child until about 20 guitar was life and classical among others (Vai, Satriani, Malmsteen, Stevie Ray Vaughn) held a special place for me. May you continue growing to heights Father God has for you to bring many to Him in Jesus name 🙏🏽blessings. 🎶the man who sparked a then 14 year olds obsession with metal-classical crossover ua-cam.com/video/CqdL36VKbMQ/v-deo.html
This deserves billions of views MY GOD
Thank you!
Wow, that was great. The classical player was SO clean. Electric was very clean when you consider that it was all alternate picked. Great video overall !!
So nice to hear it being played with straight guitars (no effects.....like some do)
2:53 around the "double stops" part, those harmonies sound so good between the acoustic and electric guitars.
Thank you! That's an amazing comment! :)
I'm in love with this... it gave me alot of motivation to continue practicing & make my dreams come true !
That's awesome! 🙂
I really enjoyed the music and production of this plus a woman in uniform can do no wrong for me...
OMG !! ...those fingers are dancin' upon the electric guitar strings ........ both ...acoustic too.... awesome ...
Wow!!! It is superb ! 🤩🤩🤩 The arrangement is very cohesive, it's awesome and funny too ☺ - The staging is very original, and you are two great guitarists - Well done and thank you 👏👏👏
❤️
@@thecommanderinchief1 🙂
odd combo, great playing, works brill together . . . nice to see that 7 string Ib at large . . . thnx for posting!!
the girl is a great player.... but seems that the acoustic sounds better, the electric should use tremolo and distorion to be a fair competition...

Classical guitar actually
@@Luca-gz3zj still acoustic...
@@Luca-gz3zj classical is part of the acoustic guitars, I forget that often too
@@motri5935 acoustic guitar is often classified as an electric guitar that produces sound through acoustic means, this means steel strings, plectrum used etc.

Nigdy nie słyszałem lepszej gitary. To coś cudownego.
Well, no clue how I landed here but, AWESOME!!
Never heard it like that before.
Delightful!
Back again and again so lovely.
Thanks a million! 💞 Maybe my VIP Club would be if interest to you? The doors close soon: virtuosomusicgroup.com/commanderinchiefguitar/
I think I like the sound of it on guitar, because with every muted note, it's so percussive.
Ihr seid sehr gut. Mir gefällt das Zusammenspiel von den unterschiedlichen Gitarren.
I've got blisters on my fingers by watching this!
Unbelievable!!!!!, super brilliant performance. Unique in this world. Congratulations.👏👏👏👏👏👏
Hail Hydra
😂
Wtf!🤣🤣🤣
Renzo LOL 😂
This guy predicted Endgame!!!!
Lol
You're such a beautiful artist! You restore my hope in humanity! Come tour Canada please??
a little chorus or reverb should have paired with the palm muting on electric but otherwise great playing by both musicians and wonderfully created. Thanks for sharing!
Angel also it needs distortion
i havent ever seen such beautiful combination by guitars
Bravo! Really good idea and very virtuoso performance
wow,nice!
Beautiful!
Splendid performance!
Thank you so much!!
🥀🥀🥀 John Poppy
Thank you too!
Long time I haven't seen such quality performance ! Great artists !
+cokksy thanks! :)
Спасибо за чудесную музыку! Очень понравилось!
Awesome music, always one of my faves. This version is so... just WOW! Loved it. It looks like you guys had some real fun, on top of making great music!
Шикарное исполнение! Браво!
ua-cam.com/video/9109gfaTFJM/v-deo.html тут тоже)
A very beautiful and creative music video, that is well shot and edited, combined with humor and a new take of the Battle of the sexes and guitars, classical vs electric, that demonstrate the versatile of the electrical guitar in the hands of a Woman Guitarista that paces behind the Male classical Guitarista like a Lioness stalking her prey; Bravo.
Fico imaginando que tipo de pessoa dá deslike em um vídeo tão maravilhoso como este!
Paganini has always been a favorite of mine, and this is beautiful!
Excellent! Buy quickly folks.
Amazing! Both amazing guitar players!!
I LOVE YOUR MUSIC, and this video.. you are genius! Best regards from Hungary :)
I am a fan of all 24 Caprices, This is my favorite and i certainly cant play it like The Commander....So good to be a new fan of The Commander!! :)
You are osom! beautiful music, thanks for your art
This is just terrific. I salute the commander in chief and Craig.
Buenissimooo. Viva Paganini!!!
Creo que según como se le enseño al Maestro Paganini este les daria unos buenos reglazos en la cabeza... les falta mucho... aun para que realmente suene bueno.
From Florida ... Great talent! Wonderful!
Thanks! I hope Storm Alberto won't cause any damage, as it makes landfall. I lived in Florida for half a year and went to junior high school there. Loved it!
THEY PLAYED THE AUER VERSION!!! I HAVE ONLY EVER HEARD HEIFETZ PLAY THAT VERSION!
k
Absolutely fantastic 👏
Wow-Sexy and sassy-sheer brilliance in playing technique-making it look easy when its xtremely difficult- Surely one of the best performances on UA-cam. The combinations of 'lectric and classical adds to the tongue in cheek performance.I salute you both Commander and Chief. Breathtaking performance!
I agree that the solo tone for the electric is not a "usual" one but I actually love the way both guitar sound when they play simoultaneously. Besides, that's a difficult piece to learn in its entirety! Well done!!
She is amazing 😊 it is sooo dofficult to play it the way she played it
Absolutely beautiful.
Well, well, well, what a flight of fantasy.
Subscribed - and the Bell rung of course.
oh yes. the tones. the setting. everything very enjoyable.
Totally Amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Outstanding performance!
Fantastic
so stunning work and cover
