- On this video we're stepping off the farm and heading over to my friend Louis's house. Louis recently acquired a GMC Square Body truck that was destined for the scrap yard. Fortunately, someone offered it to him before it got there, and Louis decided to give it a new lease on life.
Join us as we dive into this truck's history, starting with our first look and cleaning out the junk-filled cab and bed in search of forgotten treasures. In true archaeological fashion, we sort through the remnants of its past and uncover a few surprises along the way. The video culminates in a satisfying pressure washing, revealing the truck's true appearance after 20 years of sitting idle.
Note: The engine was discovered to be locked up, but that part wasn't filmed. Enjoy the journey of bringing this old GMC back to life!
If anyone has a Chevy 350 laying around, let me know for Louis. I gotta make him get this back on the road 😅

Fishing worms in the truck bed; rat’s nest under the seat; corroded ammunition; mold in the truck bed; sweaty, stained shirt on the floorboard; and Robert licked the nickel found in there. I wasn’t totally surprised, honestly. 😉 Your immune system is amazing! I do love the truck tho! My Dad had a tool box just like that in the back of his truck when I was a kid. Loved this video!
I forgot to say what year the nickel tasted like
My husband thinks those might be linemens gloves
@@THEOLDBYRDFARMVLOG 🤢
Gloves found are used to for electrical breakers 480v or higher worn when racking breaker in or out used many at where I used to work a power plant… love your channels 👍
I was going to say linemen's gloves. The dates are when they had dielectric testing. That is to make sure they keep the electrons out.
When I first saw the dirty old rusty truck on the thumbnail. I thought you had been metal detecting on "The Old Byrd Farm" and dug up a long lost relic of Uncle Kens .
He did used to have a truck like this but not 4x4
The speaker box was the funniest. Amazing the sock was not a striped tube sock.
That reminds me of Uncle Ken and your cousins from Walter’s videos. 😊❤
That Autovox stereo brings back memories.
When you said it was really old, I was holding my breath for the wisecrack but thankfully it's older than our truck. 🤣
Remember the boom boxes back then.😂 Hey now you are talking about my teens and twenties. 🙂
Nice Chevy!! Hopefully y’all get that thing running! She’s a beauty 🌼🌞🥰
I hope so too!
That truck deserves it's own country western song!
Love those old square bodied trucks. My dad used to say they'd rust out before they wear out. Good luck!!
Robert, you have outdone it with this video. Most hilarious & enjoyable ever. Please make another one soon!
laughing, mold huh? Ok Robert you are going to have to keep us up to date on the work. I actually enjoyed this video :)
Glad you enjoyed it!
I am sure Ms Melissa is glad to know he doesn't have to buy these things, that people will drop them off for him. Giving them a good home, so to speak. I really hope they do get it running as I would really like to see it on the dirt roads with Robert's truck.
😂😂😂 yeah he didn’t go get it, it came to him
And yes, I’m definitely pushing him to fix it so we can take both our trucks out!
“Old” from the 1980’s?? 😂😅Yikes…😂
😅
LOL I know I am a 70+ retired Mechanic. I went to a antique car show recently and left early most of the cars and trucks there I worked on when I was 20 to 40 YRS. old
Cool truck...love the older ones
Me too
I'd love to have those Alabama license plates. I have a small collection of plates, but they are mostly from my past vehicles, and some family vehicles. When I worked at a campground in 1988 (I think), the company truck was a 1987 Chevy, same body style as that one. It was only 2 wheel drive though. In the mid 2010s my Dad had a 1986 model with a newer engine. In the 70s the pastor of our church had a `68 Chevy truck with 3-on-the-tree. I remember that truck well, because I rode in it. You could see the road through the big holes in the floor. I showed you a picture of my Ford truck in the fan group. I wish I could have brought it to you or your friend. Then it could have been rescued. I junked it a couple years ago.
It's absolutely amazing how many of these trucks are STILL on the road! My brother had a 1973 or 74, gold and white, floor stick shift, 2 wheel drive. Half ton I think. I've always liked them since then and since driving it.
Definitely!
The gloves are lineman gloves for high power electricity
Them gumbo mudders??? Classic!
Based on the dash, side markers (vertical) and gas filler cap (no door) that's a 73 - 76 GMC . Its a 3/4 ton (K20) based on the eight lug wheels. Dana 44 front axle, Corporate 14 bolt full float rear (GM's version of the Dana 60). New Process (NP) 205 transfer case (based on the locking front hubs). Probably a 350 SBC 4 bolt main and 350 turbo trans. The front springs and mounts have been modified too. Originally the springs were fairly flat. Being a mid 70s truck that's not rusty at all (compared to most). They rusted sitting in the showroom😂 I have a 1975 Chevy just like that one. Great truck! That one could be too. Great video.
That truck is not bad. All the areas the rust is at there are replacement parts. I’m in Minnesota and believe or not there are still some old square body Chevys on the road. Some are nice or 50% of it is rusted out. I have a 1967 Chevy c10 with a 350 and granny low 4 speed. Originally had a 283 that was locked up when I got it. I got my truck from a neighbor down the street and it was sitting for 30 years but the rust was about the same as your friends truck. I replaced the whole floorboard, cab corners, and rocker panels then I had it undercoated. Anyway, I hope you guys get it going soon so y’all can go on some off road adventures on those rugged Georgia dirt roads.
Love the square bodies. Currently have 3 of them
I love those knives. Pampered Chef. LOL
😅
That looks like a late 70s, I had a ‘79 and ‘84 4x4s. Love them old trucks. That one there will have the old cast housing transfer case and transmission if it’s a 3speed with low(granny gear). Never mind, I see it’s an automatic but it will still have the cast transfer case. Great truck
It'll buff out! Love it! ..... and BTW, that ammo can be polished up and is probably still good.
Louis is probably at home polishing it right now honestly
I was questioning my sanity for watching you clean out a truck, then you got to the pressure washing part, then I understood 😁 satisfying stuff there. Good luck, I hope y'all find an engine and get some good muddin in 🩷
That’s right!
My dad had a 76 GMC Sierra in sky blue with white top and camper shell. It was a 250 I-6 with the 3 on the tree. Hope you guys get this one running again. That was a fun video. 👍
That is awesome! Those 250’s were great motors too
I had a `76 Chevy C10 Heavy half 350 4 bbl, and a 84 GMC Sierra Classic 305 4 bbl - loved both of them.
Probably been down a lot of salty roads etc beaches and so.great job cleaning it up two
Very cool truck ! Thanks for sharing with us take care enjoy 😉
That's a 73-80 roundeye square body chevy my favorite ones❤
The diamond engagement ring in drivers side door pocket was the best! 🤠hey, I lived through the era of those trucks… fun stuff! Glad it got saved.
what a Amazing project 💯🤲
What a difference cleaning it did. And the shells found at the beginning probably paid for it!!! Fun video!!!
Right! Between those and that tailgate, definitely worth the cost of the truck
high voltage gloves! that is why you have 2 layers, leather and butyl gloves. usually quite expensive.
they get re certified every 5 or 10 years . just like high pressure cylinders.
A good washing and she’ll run great
I wish 😅
My heart skipped a beat after the pressure wash. Fixing it to at least the point of driving and not falling through it would be worth the work ha ha. That's hilarious at the crap y'all found in the cab ha ha.
Awesome truck! I hope you guys get it going and post a video of you driving around in it!
Hey I was a manager at Sanders for 11 years then they closed .that's cool I didn't know they had stores down south .
That was supposed to say Sbarro
OMG That truck is a treasure.
Big blast from the past.
Cool! Lineman's gloves!
I think I saw some red krylon at Lowe's that will match for touch up 😁🇺🇸
Thx for doing this, filming it and sharing it with us.
Check auto parts stores you found a replacement motor and transmission for $3,000.00. A friend brought a motor and transmission in for a 1999 Chevrolet Suburban 5.7 350 motor and transmission
Would be awesome if you guys got it going, cool old truck!
With all that rust, it looks like a Michigan truck.
I OREDERED A SHIRT FROM YOU AND I REALLY LIKE IT. I WAS REALLY SURPRISED THAT WAS NOTHING FROM YOU. THOUGHT YOU MITE SAY THANKS FOR THE ORDER. I WATCH YOUR VIDEOS EVERY NITE. I SO ENJOY THEM. THANKS SO MUCH.
I had my late Father 1982 Chevrolet Truck sits in yard for 12 years I sold 5 year ago it was 2wd
I’d bet a lot of money, if I had any, that you couldn’t get over there fast enough when you found out about that truck! 😂😂
It’s actually a funny story, Louis and I were supposed to go somewhere, when I got to his house to pick him up this was sitting on a trailer in his driveway. The guy had just stopped by to offer it to him moments before I got there. So I started looking at it with Louis, in the mindset that neither one of us needed it…….. I reluctantly asked the guy, “how much do you want for it?” When he said the price, I said “oh, you gotta get this!” A gentlemen never tells the price he paid, but let’s just say…. It was less than $500…. 😉
A challenge for sure.
At least the doors close. My husband had a truck that had to have boards put in between the cab and bed. That way the doors would close. Looks better after cleaned.
😂
The winch in the back of it is for the military dodges like your M43 and the M37. At least it looks like a Braden Lu-4.
Awesome!
Good project. Enjoyed
Thank you!
What a dig!! Hey Louis, been a while since you were on. Ride in it? This a gotta see! It's all relative, and any number of comments, LOL!! You kill me, Robert. Rats, always rats. Worms can crawl, Robert. The speakers are hilarious, but if it works! Beautify it, by pressure washing! 😂 The gloves appear to be for working on electrical equipment and rated and certified for voltage level protection. So what did you name the truck? I did have a vision while watching this... a vision of you, Robert, under the hood that is. 😅🤣👍👍
Its a cool project truck.👍
It might need some patching though😃
Just a little 😅
@@THEOLDBYRDFARMVLOG Im thinking a visit to a junkyard would be usefull for the truck. Might find good panels and that missing front grill, headlights, engine, transmission, larger wheels, square lights for the top of that rollbar...its a shame how US 🛻 were never impotted in Europe...anyway that would be cool off roader.👍
auxiliary face plate for the radio.
That's what I was thinking.
When this truck is operational I’m sure you guys will be driving it thru those back Georgia roads in the red clay when they flood.
No doubt!
I can’t wait 😛
Me either. That’s why I’m urging him to fix this one. Gotta find a 350 to drop in it!
Aloha 🌺🥰
Mix some diesel and oil together a ND spray the under components and rust spots lug nuts so on so eager to work on and rust prevention
Robert the coin lick, what were you thinking? LOL Geeze you pulled out a rat's nest out of that truck.
Tryna see what year it was. Tasted like 1984.
@@THEOLDBYRDFARMVLOG LOL, I hope it was a good year.
I'm thinking power lines gloves but by now they would be way out date . Sweet old Georgia milk cow GMC
High Voltage switching gloves used by linemen. Good up to 2500 volts
Hot dogs,apple pie and Chevrolet,Merica!!!!😁
4 new tires and a new 350 engine and your good to go. Lol
“Stilllooks like junk Just really good junk”ololololol
That’s right 😂
You guys should invite @jenningsmotorsports to come on down and get her running. “She’s been sitting since the Iron Age, but with a little PB Blaster, we will get her driving’ again”
😅 I thought about filling the engine full of ATF and seeing if we could get it freed up
Fire extinguisher shake it up and it mixes the powder inside it might work
What a good truck and you even got a nickle
Simon and Simon... OBF Edition
Fantastisch Good good work Robert old from 1880 jaar look Truck Top friends good weekend 🚚✔️🧤😅🧢🍹⛅
Quick! Call Derek Bieri at Vice Grip Garage!
Was it parked a catalpa tree? My dad planted those in his yard for the bait worms that love to eat catalpa trees.
First off, you guys have to name this truck, “Clifford” and I believe those gloves were used by linemen.
Fantastisch Good work Robert you te best te look Truck from 1880 best frieds Top weekend 🚚🧤😎🧢🦺🍹🌤👍
what ever became of the old u-haul truck you were trying to salvage??
💞
Somebody has done went and cut th front fenders, first thing ..replace the front fenders. 🇺🇲😀👍
Line man’s gloves
Those are high voltage gloves. Do not use if they aren’t right you could electrocute yourself.
Those gloves are old school high voltage gloves
What became of the U-Haul truck project?
Still in progress, updates to come. Just a slow project.
Awesome Chevy ,gotta love them but I'm fickle I can love a ford f150 or dodge .ok if its a truck I'm hooked lol .
Haha me too
What!? Why u selling ur old cars????
Cuz I can’t drive em all and got a new Jeep. So gotta sell em to get the new Jeep
Lineman gloves
359000
Eeiuwwww that was nasty nickle
Tasted like rats and 1984
@@THEOLDBYRDFARMVLOG You weren't even alive in 1984 and by the looks of that nickel you won't be alive much longer either. Ask Dan if that's how you get dysentery. Pretty sure it is.
Oh my goodness, I cringed when you licked that nickel! Yuck
It is the same as fruit flies. They are in the fruit.
Ehh, some chicken wire and bondo... shes a ripper
Typical chevy
Ugly truck day lol
Why would you lick the nickel…hard telling what crawled over it…that was gross..
😂
