- Alternative way to travel to Hatyai by using train from Penang (Bukit Mertajam). It is economical and safe to travel by train. For less than RM40, you can have a round trip to hatyai and return. There were multiple komuter train trips from Butterworth to Padang Besar daily. However, there were only 2 trips from Padang Besar to Hatyai. Need to ensure that the train’s timing were match, otherwise you may need to wait for longer interval.
Note: Don't be scam by local taxi operators which charging you an exorbitant fare to bring you to the Padang Besar Immigration to continue your journey by road instead of rail. During festive season, the queue at the immigration were very long and time consuming. My advise is just wait at the train station for the train. The immigration clearance at the train station will be much faster than at the land border.

For mainland people take train is the most convenient. Island people taking van will reach Dannok custom whichc can be very pack competing with people from KL/SG.

cool video, planning a trip to hatyai but i think take bus/van from penang island to hatyai seem less hassle.
That's true, however the border control / immigration at the land border maybe very pack during festive season.

You means reached Padang Besar at 1am? At midnight, it is better to stay around Penang Island or Butterworth area. You may contact me at my UA-cam contact.

Do I take ferry from penang to pangkalan sultan abdul halim then from pangkalan sultan abdul halim take train to padang besar and from padang besar to hatyai ? is that correct ?

Free wifi are available in most cafes and hotel’s lobby. I would recommend to get a local tourist SIM with 7 days unlimited data if you rely on Online Map Apps for navigation. The price for the tourist SIM is just around 200THB depending on the seller.
Hello, I'm looking for online ticketing purchase in advance from Penang to Padang Besar / Hatyai but I can't seem to find any trip schedule on 2nd January 2023 in KTM website. Any advise on this, please? Appreciate your response.
The Penang to Padang Besar train ticket only sell at the train station on the same day of travelling. There were no online or purchase in advance option available.
Also separate ticket P. Besar to Hat Yia 😢
What should I prepare for passing through thailand immigration border?
A valid international passport…. Previously the Thai immigration required you to have Covid 19 vaccination cert screenshot for health declarations but not sure if they abolished this now. You also need to fill in a white card which will be given to you at the station before going through the checkpoint.

It is inside the Padang Besar station and not the hatyai station

Hi ,How to go Hatyai via Penang Airport
Currently there is no direct flight to Hatyai. You may need to transit in Bangkok.
@@user-yv4sx2nl8o I mean.. go to where to start from Penang. I am from Sarawak.. =)
From Penang Airport, you would need to go over Penang mainland to take the train to Hatyai. You can hop on the komuter train at Penang Sentral, Butterworth which can go directly to Padang Besar. From there you can change to Thai train to Hatyai.

Passport Control for both Malaysia and Thailand are inside Padang Besar train station. You only get to have your passport stamp after you bought your train tickets to Hatyai.
