Yeah actually this film exaggerates Cao Cao's scheming and manipulative side more than the games. He was always more ambitious warlord who EMPLOYS scheming strategists. As such I did not like this version of him because it ignored Guo Jia and Jia Xu in favor of just mixing them into Cao Cao. That felt wrong to me.

Only thing that killed Lu Bu's theme for me is that Lu Bu was just staring the whole time watching the fight , then when his theme ends now he decides to fight.
I might check this one out. I'm not much of a dynasty warriors guy, but a decent game movie is something worth checking out. I had high hopes for Warctaft, but seeing as how they screwed up the origins of the orcs power lust along with a few other things, it just failed... Hopefully this one will spark a trend of decent game movies instead if the crap trend like superhero movies used to be.
My only complaint about the movie was that they used Lu Bu's theme in the fight against Lu Bu's army and not the fight against Lu Bu. Aside from that it felt like it was just the right amount of ham and cheese.
Thought it was good. Hope to see more of them. We only just got the beginning. I wonder what it will look like when they have the battle of Chi Bi. All of the FIRE!
I think it was too early to add him, remember that the movie ends while Dong Zhuo is still alive. But I think they could have added some Wei's first characters, like Xiahou Dun and Xiahou Yuan, very precious for Cao Cao
Samurai warriors do have the aging system but they had it in spirit of sanada and the new samurai warriors (sadly samurai warriors 5 isn’t using unique weapons anymore so no demon powers and chakrams and giant swords which is disappointing) not sure why dynasty warriors doesn’t have this
One thing did throw me off very early into the movie and that is that Guan Yu did a special move that usually Zhao Yun pulls off in the games,, This was the Yellow Turban fight where Guan Yu had his feet tided around a persons head whilst spinning around with his weapon... I agree too a lot of the fighting scenes where very floaty and it was like they were on strings yeah agreed but then again like you said at the start of your video it's more based for the fans of the Dynasty Warriors game series and makes sense that way as in the games especially the newer ones certain characters are flying all over the air whilst attacking... The fight scene with Liu Bei, Zhang Fei and Guan Yu against Lu Bu made sense too with the elementals of there weapons from the heavans, makes sense as it's almost like they have that "True Muso" effect like in the games
I'm a relatively new DW fan. I've really only played DW7 and DW9. I am playing through DW8 right now, so my opinion may not mean much. I didn't like the movie. It didn't seem to completely follow the story of the games. The movie was pretty boring with a lot of dialogue to set up fights that weren't that interesting to watch. The pacing is poor as mentioned. The relationships between some characters were far too weak (Lu Bu and Diao Chan especially), and if you are a fan of Wu like I am, they get almost zero presence here (also Sun Jian is depicted as underhanded which is not how he is in the games). There were a lot of nice touches for sure, but for a ridiculously over the top game series like DW, it felt very slow and uneventful in general. I guess they are banking on a sequel.
Yup, it is not for the true fan of Dynasty Warriors game, yet somehow people just keep saying that. I know group of DW fans who most of couldnt enjoy the movie for more than 30 mins lol.
Just Cao Cao Sword alone Is World Eater Weapon (Blackhole Level Weapon) And it possible that Only Cao Cao Can Defeat Lubu in the future movie to Capture him and kill him as Cao Cao weapon is stronger than Lubu weapon and it kind like Cao Cao was chosen to slay lubu but Cao Cao still dont know how to use fullpower of weapon yet as it need more blood to upgrade(EXP) Cao Cao can even kill Orochi Zeus Odin ETC. with His God Weapon Alone.(Warrior Orochi series) Sun wukong DOA Soul Caliber Ninja Gaiden etc. in warrior orochi serie cant fight Cao Cao.
I believe they are going to stay close to the novels and by close I mean they will take story points and moments from the romance of the three kingdoms.
Big fan of the games. Not gonna lie loved the first 3rd, clocked out 2nd 3rd but cane back 3rd end of the movie. As a fan it was hilarious to me. 5.5 our of 10 just cuz u found it funny. Besides that its AA ridiculous as the games. If u like the games. You'll prolly like it.
If Dynasty Warriors managed to pull the "video-game film adaptation" schtick flawless, Any video game can!!! That stupid "Monster Hunter" Cluckfest was just a setback and I really want Fire Emblem to get the treatment that it so desperately needs. What do you think, Joshua? Is it possible that we're gonna see a live-action Fire Emblem movie??
The biggest problem with videogame-to-film adaptations is the film medium itself. Games like Fire Emblem, Mass Effect, etc. NEED to be adapted as TV series due to amount of material needed to fit into the adaptation.
I just watched like yesterday and man that was the best dynasty warriors movie I have ever seen before they get got it right on the game I been a fan of the dynasty warriors scenes part 2 and made a fighting game on a ps1 and they keep on making this amazing game the movie was good but slow part was like can on but overall this is a very awesome movie I will give 8.9 stars.
I wonder if there would be a 2nd one. Any other characters from the game could appear in the next movie? I would want to see Xiao Qiao in the next movie because she is my favorite DW character. I hope that her big sister Da Qiao would appear in the next movie along with Xiao Qiao. Probably their husbands Zhou Yu and Sun Ce could be in the next sequel too. My brother used to play that game long time on PS2. I bet he would love to see Gan Ning in the 2nd one too because Gan Ning was his favorite DW character. Who would you like to see in the next Dynasty Warriors movie? Sima Yi? Pang Tong? Dian Wei? Sun Jian? Sun Quan? Wei Yan? Zhen Ji? Jiang Wei? Lu Xun? Cao Pi? Xu Zhu? Zhao Yun? Sun Shang Xiang? Meng Huo? Yue Ying? Ling Tong? Zhang He? Zhuge Liang? Ma Chao? Xiahou Yuan? Zhou Tai? Pang De? Xiahou Dun? Huang Zhong?
I'd say something about either the movie or the review, but as someone who doesn't know anything about Dynasty Warriors, I think I'm just gonna stick with... Cute dog!
I’ll pass on it not as someone who never played a DW game but as someone who ironically enjoys bad video game adaptations. This mindset goes against what Josh says. “Most video game movies tend to neuter the source material by appealing to a general audience.” The templates of video games with no story pitch, such as Super Mario Bros., give the director creative freedom when it comes to making movies. *Isn’t it more important to critique a bad directing than a bad movie?* Anybody want to turn the emboldened question into a discussion?
Am I in an alternate dimension? I don't know what these positive comments are for, that movie was downright bad. On so many levels. What a waste of time and use of license. Even the show War of the Three Kingdoms was better than this. If you think this film had less than a few flaws, you are just accepting Dynasty Warriors exists in movie form.
This movie didn't do well at the box office (HK's and China's) and didn't make its' budget back. Pretty sure Zhao Yuan was going to be in the sequel had the movie done well.
Had to stop the viedo because I didn't know it existed and just finished it. I have always enjoyed these films and netflix has some. Yes it's for the fans and I loved it more so since Guan Yu is my favorite character and seeing him kick ad in live action. YES PLEASE. On a sad note. How many if you think social media will attack it fir not being "diverse" even though both in history and the romantizes version dont have that.
the best dynasty warriors movie is red cliff. but if you want it in tv series format watch three kingdoms 2010 it's the best adaptation out there. there's an animated movie that's fairly faithful to the books called the great conquest it covers the yellow turban and lu bu arc as well but it actually finishes the arc, unlike the dynasty warriors movie.all the movies and shows could be found on youtube eacy and free honestly, this movie is one of the worst adaptions out there but it's good at being bad it gets a pass it's to fun to be hated
the only good thing in this movie is a duel between liu bei and cao cao before hulao gate, not just the dialouges are good but also the sword fight, the rest are... err I demand Lubu can use force lightning on the next game like on the movie
I'm just a little disappointed that some of the main characters were not the like xiahou yuan and xiahou dun . And even the poster boy zhou yun but the movie was decent overall
I don't understand why this wasn't a Japanese film. The game series is Japanese, and there are already 50 billion Chinese versions of various bits of Romance of the Three Kingdoms (many of which I love), I would have liked to have seen a cinematic Japanese take on the whole thing. Actually, does a Japanese live action film set in the Three Kingdoms era exist? I'm not aware of any, but that means little. I'm pretty ignorant of such things.
There is a Japanese movie set in the Three kingdoms era. Produced by Warner Brothers Japan and I think they casted Naomi Watanabe as Diao Chen for some odd reason.
Holy flip 5 mins and 9 second session and hos facual expression would not stop. A compairing this to avengers is like sizing up a house cat to a tiger. The scale is too different.
kinda dissapointed they dont show heroes from the Wu Faction which is always my favorite faction of the three... i hope Sun Ce and Zhou Yu gets more air time in the sequel
my only gripe was some of the casting choices. I agree that the actors weren't bad, it's just that some didn't... look the part.... Guan Yu look both scrawny and unimposing, He looked like that one Mongolian dude from pirates of the Caribbean who was like "We follow the highest bidder". And the beard didn't look good either. Zhang Fei, like... c'mon, That fat suit? He was fat on his stomach and literally nowhere else. Looked bad. And then there was Lu Bu. ti be honest, he just didn't look as threatening... he wasn't really taller than anyone but sometimes he was in the CGI clash scenes near the end? It was weird. I was also confused, maybe in part that idk the lore outside of what Dynasty Warriors Tells us, the names... Sometimes Cao Cao was Cao Mangde. could anyone answer why? Also... Where was Xiahou Dun and Xiahou Yuan...?
I guess the least complicated way to explain this is that it's kinda similar to how celebrities real/birth names can be different to their stage names.

I just saw the trailer and I am gonna love this as a DW fan.
It would be great if the ADDED SIMA YI
I think it was too early to add him, remember that the movie ends while Dong Zhuo is still alive. But I think they could have added some Wei's first characters, like Xiahou Dun and Xiahou Yuan, very precious for Cao Cao
I wonder if we can have a top 10 dynasty warriors songs/weapons/musou attacks
Also I'd love to add I'm glad they say Cao Cao's name correctly instead of Cow Cow like in Dynasty Warriors 3 "Moooooooooo" hahahahaha
Needed a more taller, buffer and louder LUBU.
Definitely
At least unlike Hollywood there wasn't a made up character that takes all the focus from the actual game character's
I love that movie,
I've been playing this franchise since elementary school
@@ngocphatphan6150 Lol. I was the same. I had to watch the movie at 30-40 minute intervals because it was boring.
Good actors? This isn’t Dynasty Warriors!
They matched the cheesiness of Dynasty Warriors games, so it counts as good acting.
Just Cao Cao Sword alone Is World Eater Weapon (Blackhole Level Weapon)
And it possible that Only Cao Cao Can Defeat Lubu in the future movie to Capture him and kill him
as Cao Cao weapon is stronger than Lubu weapon and it kind like Cao Cao was chosen to slay lubu
but Cao Cao still dont know how to use fullpower of weapon yet as it need more blood to upgrade(EXP)
Cao Cao can even kill Orochi Zeus Odin ETC. with His God Weapon Alone.(Warrior Orochi series)
Sun wukong DOA Soul Caliber Ninja Gaiden etc. in warrior orochi serie cant fight Cao Cao.
Has anyone said you emote extremely well? I bet you don’t have any sort of a poker face, like me
Kind of reminds me of Nostalgia Critic
I’ve missed your reviews. (Long term subscriber)
I believe they are going to stay close to the novels and by close I mean they will take story points and moments from the romance of the three kingdoms.
Are you going to do a fiery joker review of Sonic the hedgehog
so far apart from the fight scenes, Red Cliff 1&2 with Tony Leung is better for me...
Hey Josh, I was wondering if you do a top ten Digimon games?
I do hope there's a part 2 of Dynasty Warriors 2, besides the destiny weapons I really enjoyed it
8:18 I recognized the music in the trailer.
I didn’t know dynasty warriors had a movie
I like it for nostalgia as a Dynasty Warrior
@@mastertadakatsu Of course, why wouldn't I think of that!
@@mastertadakatsu we need a Genshin Impact TV series...Oops wrong thread.
Wait What!? When was this announced? I must see this movie.
I wonder if there would be a 2nd one.
Any other characters from the game could appear in the next movie?
I would want to see Xiao Qiao in the next movie because she is my favorite DW character. I hope that her big sister Da Qiao would appear in the next movie along with Xiao Qiao. Probably their husbands Zhou Yu and Sun Ce could be in the next sequel too.
My brother used to play that game long time on PS2. I bet he would love to see Gan Ning in the 2nd one too because Gan Ning was his favorite DW character.
Who would you like to see in the next Dynasty Warriors movie?
Sima Yi?
Pang Tong?
Dian Wei?
Sun Jian?
Sun Quan?
Wei Yan?
Zhen Ji?
Jiang Wei?
Lu Xun?
Cao Pi?
Xu Zhu?
Zhao Yun?
Sun Shang Xiang?
Meng Huo?
Yue Ying?
Ling Tong?
Zhang He?
Zhuge Liang?
Ma Chao?
Xiahou Yuan?
Zhou Tai?
Pang De?
Xiahou Dun?
Huang Zhong?
When I heard lu bu’s theme,😆 🙌🏻
8:25 exactly josh,I agree,lu bu’s theme is iconic.
So question.
I’m not a dynasty warriors fan(cus I didn’t look into it) but I am a c drama fan.would I still like it?
I'll sum it up as best I can.
I LOVE IT.
I'd say something about either the movie or the review, but as someone who doesn't know anything about Dynasty Warriors, I think I'm just gonna stick with...
Cute dog!
i just watched the movie, and i agree with you that the movie is for DW fans only because it called dynasty warriors and not three kingdoms
*Isn’t it more important to critique a bad directing than a bad movie?*
Anybody want to turn the emboldened question into a discussion?
Am I in an alternate dimension? I don't know what these positive comments are for, that movie was downright bad. On so many levels. What a waste of time and use of license. Even the show War of the Three Kingdoms was better than this. If you think this film had less than a few flaws, you are just accepting Dynasty Warriors exists in movie form.
Yea I don't know what people are on but this movie was garbage.
Yeah...that's kind of the point?
This movie didn't do well at the box office (HK's and China's) and didn't make its' budget back. Pretty sure Zhao Yuan was going to be in the sequel had the movie done well.
I can just imagine if Josh do they collab with themonarchofdragons
movie raging fire 2021 staring donnie yen and ray lui
Is the live action dynasty warrior movie any good cuz I played the games and I’m just curious how the movie goes well with the characters and story.
That's when you cut them off and say to them, "Shut up! Get out!".
the best dynasty warriors movie is red cliff. but if you want it in tv series format watch three kingdoms 2010 it's the best adaptation out there. there's an animated movie that's fairly faithful to the books called the great conquest it covers the yellow turban and lu bu arc as well but it actually finishes the arc, unlike the dynasty warriors movie.all the movies and shows could be found on youtube eacy and free honestly, this movie is one of the worst adaptions out there but it's good at being bad it gets a pass it's to fun to be hated
the only good thing in this movie is a duel between liu bei and cao cao before hulao gate, not just the dialouges are good but also the sword fight, the rest are... err I demand Lubu can use force lightning on the next game like on the movie
I'm just a little disappointed that some of the main characters were not the like xiahou yuan and xiahou dun . And even the poster boy zhou yun but the movie was decent overall
Feel the power of my maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaagiiiiiiiiiic
I found out about the movie on Box Office Mojo.
And what's the line for Wu? Sun Quan's desk?
I don't understand why this wasn't a Japanese film. The game series is Japanese, and there are already 50 billion Chinese versions of various bits of Romance of the Three Kingdoms (many of which I love), I would have liked to have seen a cinematic Japanese take on the whole thing.
Actually, does a Japanese live action film set in the Three Kingdoms era exist? I'm not aware of any, but that means little. I'm pretty ignorant of such things.
There is a Japanese movie set in the Three kingdoms era. Produced by Warner Brothers Japan and I think they casted Naomi Watanabe as Diao Chen for some odd reason.
kinda surprised this was added to Netflix
Holy flip 5 mins and 9 second session and hos facual expression would not stop. A compairing this to avengers is like sizing up a house cat to a tiger. The scale is too different.
kinda dissapointed they dont show heroes from the Wu Faction which is always my favorite faction of the three... i hope Sun Ce and Zhou Yu gets more air time in the sequel
Sun Jian is in it
If you're doing movie reviews now, I was wondering what you think of the Dungeon and dragons movie
my only gripe was some of the casting choices.
6:01 Floaty? Like in Strikeforce?
Does Josh know that their is a Tokusatsu based off Romance of the Three Kingdoms?
And there's a Gundam series based on the Three Kingdoms.
Lubu and GuanYu should be alot bigger and more handsome
There was a movie?!
Name of track played by end of dw movie?
would you say this is the best video game adaptation?
In all honestly, Sun Jian and Wu kinda got gipped, but other than that it was a good movie overall
Historical Fiction = Mythological Mysticism
