Rebecca Romero... Silver medalist in 2000 in rowing Gold medalist in 2008 in cycling Dealing with the stress and heartbreak turned into glory... 8 years of hard work and dedecation
Good one. There's a good-sized list of former Olympic athletes (usually in track & field) who later played in the NFL. Ollie Matson is probably the next best example. There's also Jahvid Best, who played in the NFL and THEN competed in the Olympics in athletics; and Herschel Walker, the Heisman Trophy winner and NFL standout who competed in the Winter Games in Albertville.
Jacke Robinson was the best college football player of his time, the best pro baseball player (MVP one year) briefly, a track star, a high level college basketball player (before there was a pro league), and a man who won tournaments in sports-crazy California in tennis, ping pong, and swimming!
Milton Campbell!!! He won gold and silver in the decathlon; he played professional football with the Cleveland Browns, and he was a world-class judoka. One could even make the argument that he deserves the top spot.
Cycling is one of the world's hardest sport to get to the top at. A lot of people who become Junior National champions don't even have a chance of making it into the professional world. Also, they are tested to have some of the highest VO2 max in the world.
cycling is always the same motion sequence like swimming, running and sports like these, if u perfected your motion sequence, then the only thing that matters is a better bike and better notrtion. in combat sport like wrestling or judo there is always improvement of techniques, counters and stuff like these. when you dont change your style then your opponent know how to handle you, in combat sport you always have to change your style. in the last youth olympics a guy named ismail gadzhiev won gold and this year in russian championship he dont even score 1 point. trust me, as long as your bike dont try to break your will, your dreams and your body , combat sport will be tougher. (sorry for my bad english)
If you see PRIDE Fighting Championship in early 2000s, each of the fighters has won medals at their respective disciplines. Including the greatest MMA fighter of all time, Fedor Emelianenko. Some even are olympic GOLD medallist like Hidehiko Yoshida, Satoshi Ishii, Pawel Nastula, etc.
Honorable mention: Phoebe Mills USA gymnastics, 1988 US Champion, 1988 Olympic Brone medalist on Balance Beam, 8th on Uneven Bars and 6th on Floor Exercise. NCAA athlete in diving and Conference Champion later competed in Snowboarding and is now a US Jr Team coach and Olympic judge. Her sister is the 1989 World Junior Figure Skating Champion and her brother competed in the 1992, 1994 & 1998 Olympics in Speed Skating.
What about Bob Hayes? He won gold in Tokyo '64 for the 100 meters and 4x100 relay. In the NFL he won a superbowl ring, went to the pro-bowl three times and was the NFL touchdown receptions leader twice. Not quite Jim Thorpe, but I would put him at #2.
Maybe not top 10 but an honorable mention perhaps, in the (reverse) vein of Clara Hughes: Laurine van Riessen, bronze medallist at the 1000m speed skating in 2010 in Vancouver, and also part of the Team Sprint Track cycling in Rio 2016 (no medal but a spectacular save, and boarding ride to avoid crashing)
Nova Peris-Kneebone, 1996 Atlanta Gold Medalist (Field Hockey) then became Commonwealth Games 200m track and field champion in 1998. Was elected to the Australian Senate after her retirement from competition.
Jordan, great basketball player, but was a low level AA player at best (the route to the Majors, the top league, is A, AA, AAA, Minor League, Major League). That's why he went back to basketball.
How could you not recognized Sheila Taoramina?... The only human (men and women) to compete in 3 different sports ( not events) in the Olympics ( swimming , triathlon and modern pentathlon) ?
Jacki Robinson was America's best football player at one point, America's best Baseball layer in 1949 (MVP), and won high level tournaments in swimming, ping pong and tennis in California! Babe dDdrickson Zaharias was America's best female Basket ball player, golfer, decathlete, and several other sports
Babe Didrikson Zaharias was the Babe Ruth of female sports. In 1932, she went to the AAU track and field competitions, entered ten events, and won six of them, tying in one. She competed alone, but won the team trophy as a solo team. She won two track golds and a silver, one in hurdles, one in the javelin, tying or breaking world records in each, in the 1932 LA Olympics. She toured with a national basketball team, and was regarded by many as the best basketball player of her gender in the country. She was a competitive pocket pool player. She then switched to golf as an adult, and won a total of 82 tournaments, professional and amateur, including every major tournament available...she competed in men's tournaments as well. She won two tournaments while dying form colon cancer in the 1950s, and was the top ranked woman golfer when she passed away at the age of 45. She got her nickname when she hit five home runs in one baseball game as a youth. She played organized baseball and softball, and was also an excellent diver, rollerskater, and bowler.
.237 in the minors ( as well as one of the best fielders, throwers, and baserunners in the league) makes you an outstanding athlete. ...not world-class, but outstanding.
I was just thinking before I saw this video why does no one do these on Jim Thorpe and if u were wondering why I was thinking that I live in a town called Jim Thorpe and its named after him and there's a memorial and everything but its crazy how I thought of that and then saw it. oh btw if you look up my name on fire fox or google Brandon Fasolino Jim Thorpe little league should come up and maybe even basketball and look up Jim Thorpe memorial while your at it
Not all of these athletes competed in the Olympics for both their sports. Sunette Viljoen won silver in javelin in Rio, and played 18 international cricket matches for South Africa.
Shouldn't Clara Hughes be ranked a little higher on this list? She's the only person to ever win multiple medals in both the winter and summer Olympics
+David Rooks, Are you joking? MJ was on the Dream Team that played in Barcelona for the 1992 Olympics. How could you not know that? Also, this is the Olympic youtube channel, so no, Bo Jackson would not be featured on this list. You will notice that EVERY athlete on this list was an olympian, including Michael Jordan.
Good list, but I would add Eric Heiden - 1980 Winter Olympics won 5 gold and set 4 Olympic records in speed skating. To this day no individual has one more gold in a single Winter Olympics. Went no to become a professional in both track and road cycling.
gabit saliev I’m glad someone here recognized her I can not believe Sheila was not on this list..... she is the only human to compete in 3 different sports in the olympics ( not events... sports , swimming , triathlon, and modern pentathlon) . She should have been on top 3 but not seen her on this list makes me wonder
She was 17 when she won that olympic medal, she also got gold at the junior world championship in Budapest (and many more great medals!) & she's the pioneer for female MMA, I absolutely adored her for being the "armbar assassin" and I still look up to her as my idol. Losing is part of the game, this is no reason why I shouldn't give a thumbs up for her!
I don't think Ronda counts. She never learned MMA, she just did Judo inside the octagon. Her coach was a fraud, she never learned how to strike, and she never improved.
Jordan played in the minor leagues and never made it to Major League Baseball, which is widely considered the standard for saying someone played professionally. Even though 'professional' is defined as getting paid to play, even if you did count it - it should never be in a top ten. He was terrible at it. Bo Jackson played professionally (NFL, MLB) in two sports, now that's a crossover.
you add Michael Jordan who is arguably the GOAT in the NBA but only played AA baseball but leave off Bo Jackson who was among the best ever in the NFL AND MLB?!?!?! sorry Bo over MJ
Since this video seems to focus on those were successful in at least one Olympic sport, I have to ask, why is Lolo Jones on this list? In her foot races she was sporadic in her wins as she could not repeat any of them and her six medals were spread over an 11 year period...none of them Olympic. She won 1 medal in bobsleigh and those was only as a warm up to the Olympics, a test run to see how she could do before the team was selected. Interesting that she was selected and her sleigh partner was not. Hmmm...Most other countries already had their teams ready, or had a good idea who would make up their sleigh teams. But no the US. Her competitor for the position was correct in her criticism, she should have spent more time getting twitter followers and doing nude photos than trying to build solid muscle mass.
Rebecca Romero...
Silver medalist in 2000 in rowing
Gold medalist in 2008 in cycling
Dealing with the stress and heartbreak turned into glory... 8 years of hard work and dedecation
One big mistake I noticed. Johnny Weismuller did not play handball. He was on the water polo team
Spot on, Brian. Mr. Weismuller was a swimmer and a water polo player. Thanks for catching the mistake and sorry about it.
Now imagine what Weimuller's medal count would have been like if the 200 free and 4X100 free relay had been on the schedule.
WHERE IS Bullet Bob Hayes?! A Gold Medalist, holding records for sometime, and a Superbowl Champ as well as a Hall of Fame.
Agreed!
Jacke Robinson was the best college football player of his time, the best pro baseball player (MVP one year) briefly, a track star, a high level college basketball player (before there was a pro league), and a man who won tournaments in sports-crazy California in tennis, ping pong, and swimming!
As of February 2018, you can add Ester Ledecká to the list: A snowboard world champion winning an Olympic gold medal in alpine skiing.
Milton Campbell!!! He won gold and silver in the decathlon; he played professional football with the Cleveland Browns, and he was a world-class judoka. One could even make the argument that he deserves the top spot.
Ronda Rousey went from Martial Arts to Martial Arts... That's NOT a crossover... That's Every MMA competitor ever.
Several.
there is a big diffrence between judo and mma. the other guys just went from bullshit to other bullshit sport
Cycling is one of the world's hardest sport to get to the top at. A lot of people who become Junior National champions don't even have a chance of making it into the professional world. Also, they are tested to have some of the highest VO2 max in the world.

Hayley Wickenheiser & Clara Hughes 🍁🇨🇦
Honorable mention: Phoebe Mills USA gymnastics, 1988 US Champion, 1988 Olympic Brone medalist on Balance Beam, 8th on Uneven Bars and 6th on Floor Exercise. NCAA athlete in diving and Conference Champion later competed in Snowboarding and is now a US Jr Team coach and Olympic judge.

As in any "Top 10" list, we surely missed many other incredible examples.
Who would you have added to this list?
Maybe not top 10 but an honorable mention perhaps, in the (reverse) vein of Clara Hughes: Laurine van Riessen, bronze medallist at the 1000m speed skating in 2010 in Vancouver, and also part of the Team Sprint Track cycling in Rio 2016 (no medal but a spectacular save, and boarding ride to avoid crashing)
Jesse Lumsden. Played in the CFL and then switched to the Canadian bobsled team.
Myself. Football (soccer) player, 100m sprinter AND 800m runner.
Nasser Al-Attiyah, Skeet medalist in 2012 and also Dakar Rally winner 2011, 2015
Nova Peris-Kneebone, 1996 Atlanta Gold Medalist (Field Hockey) then became Commonwealth Games 200m track and field champion in 1998. Was elected to the Australian Senate after her retirement from competition.
Also Jana Pittman of Australia who went from 400m runner to bobsleigh too.
Babe Didricksen(sp.): track and field, 1932 summer Olympics, then one of the greatest golfers of all time.
Steve Christiansen l
Agreed, she should've been on the list. One of the greatest athletes of all time, without question. Top ten for all sports combined.
Jordan, great basketball player, but was a low level AA player at best (the route to the Majors, the top league, is A, AA, AAA, Minor League, Major League). That's why he went back to basketball.
ranhill ni siquiera

WONDERFUL VIDEO ! Wow. FANTASTIC HOMAGE to JIM THORPE, Olympic Gold Medallist Decathlon & Pentathlon in 1912. Football, Baseball player.

Were they Olympians?
Babe Didrikson Zaharias was the Babe Ruth of female sports. In 1932, she went to the AAU track and field competitions, entered ten events, and won six of them, tying in one. Jim Thorpe, to this day, still all time greatest athlete
BO KNOWS? Best athlete of all time from the USA.
Christa Luding-Rothenburger... gold medal in winter games 1988 (speed skating) and silver medal in summer games 1988 (cycling)
Alexey Voevoda - World Champ in Armwrestling 2004.
Gold Olympic Medal in Bobsleigh 2014.
Susan Holloway: 1976 ski & kayak same year. 1984 2 medals
Eric Mihalovic
Jordan shouldn't be on this list. He was a terrible baseball player. He was a below average in the minor leagues.
That's not terrible....he was a starting right fielder who was a great fielder and baserunner, but a mediocre hitter....batted 237 or thereabouts
No, he only started because of who he was; not because of his ability. And .237 in the minors doesn't qualify you as mediocre. It makes you terrible.
Lol please, he played professional baseball. He's a crossover athlete.
.237 in the minors ( as well as one of the best fielders, throwers, and baserunners in the league) makes you an outstanding athlete. ...not world-class, but outstanding.
Ole Okie Watson, he might have been a cross over athlete but he was only good in one of the sports
I was just thinking before I saw this video why does no one do these on Jim Thorpe and if u were wondering why I was thinking that I live in a town called Jim Thorpe and its named after him and there's a memorial and everything but its crazy how I thought of that and then saw it. oh btw if you look up my name on fire fox or google Brandon Fasolino Jim Thorpe little league should come up and maybe even basketball and look up Jim Thorpe memorial while your at it
You can add Esther Ledecka and Jorien ter Mors to this list now.
Tennis+Golf guy
Softball+Icehockey woman are impressive.
hans hannes
Ester Ledecka: 2018 Gold in women's snowboarding parallel giant slalom and 2018 Gold in women's ski super-G
Kyrie has the best crossover moves.
manny pacquiao? boxer, basketball player, played chess and golf? not to mention, a congressman, a senator, a businessman, a singer and actor? 😂😂
Now Ronda Rousey is in Professional Wrestling.
Not all of these athletes competed in the Olympics for both their sports. Sunette Viljoen won silver in javelin in Rio, and played 18 international cricket matches for South Africa.
What is the background music?
Kurt Angle?
WWE not a sport, nor a competition.

The dumbest was Micheal Jordan to Baseball
Goes to show that some people are just natural athletes... sadly I am definitely not one of them. Hats off!

where's Dafne Schippers? 2 times world champion 200 m sprint, former decathlon

How about Katie Dawkins?
She went from synchronised swimming to bodybuilding and then switch into crossfit.
Hughes should have been way higher on the list. A lot of the older inclusions were a little lame considering how different things were.
You forgot Ronda Rousey is now signed with the WWE
Didn't Weismuller play water polo?
Mark Henry...Weight Lifting to Pro ENTERTAINMENT Wrestling
They probably dont know about Ab De villers

+David Rooks, Are you joking? MJ was on the Dream Team that played in Barcelona for the 1992 Olympics. How could you not know that? Also, this is the Olympic youtube channel, so no, Bo Jackson would not be featured on this list. You will notice that EVERY athlete on this list was an olympian, including Michael Jordan.

List is dumb. Jordan is on here (who was a horrible baseball player) but nothing about Bo Jackson who crushed it in the NFL and in the MLB.
Number one should have been Bruce Jenner (Switches Name and Gender in 2016)
Post 90's UFC is a joke.
what is this song?
Found it. Golden Swagger by Dominic Glover and Gary Crockett and Jay Glover.
what was the song
The song is Golden Swagger by Dominic Glover and Gary Crockett and Jay Glover
Syl Apps Olympic pole vaulter who became a pro hockey player
Michael Jordan doesn't deserve to be on here, him playing baseball never worked out, like nick cannon and Mariah Carey
Where’s Daniel Cormier ?
Michael jordan crossover
Seriously, Ronda Rousey!!!
Phillip Andrew Mosellones right she’s not a crossover athlete 😂
Judo to MMA isn't really a crossover.
Thumbs up for Ronda!
So what? She's still my biggest inspiration - in vicotry or defeat.
You might think so, but I do not. She's still my hero and all these successes I listed are enough for me.
