I love this song already. Teared up at the end of it and got chills all over. You don’t have to stay inside of that machine…I’ve felt this way for years now ❤️
I really love this song. For me personally, it’s about our inappropriate and harmful ways of dealing with that omnipresent uncertainty in this cruel, but also beautiful world. Locking ourselves up in machines and separating ourselves from each other won’t help in the long term. We are all like ships in the night, lost and trying to find our way through the shaking waves of life, but we should do so in mutual trust, love and empathy. Fighting fear like an enemy might make us feel safe, but as we all know from Thrice, safety is nothing but a great illusion. Let’s hope for that deeper dream and trust each other to live it - together.
I'm a huge thrice fan from the very beginning, their sound has changed so much but I still love them the same. They're one of my top 3 all time favorite bands forever.
Every album since Beggars, save TBEITBN, has left me puzzled as to what they might be thinking upon first listen. It's a slow burn, musicians' music, as they say. I'm constantly pleasantly surprised at how each song grows on me. This was by far my least favorite installation of theirs on my first run through. I was disappointed. And as I continued to try, thinking "there's no way Thrice could miss", I started to understand the brilliance. This has become my favorite record in their catalog, again aside from TBEITBN, which is quite possibly my favorite album of all time. As a fan since Illusions, I deeply appreciate that they don't pander to the radio, or even to the fans. They are uniquely them. They write from their souls and the absolute depth of genius in Dustin's lyrics, not to mention the musical ingenuity is something to behold. Music is often a timeline of talent, but not for these guys. For them it is entirely a story of evolution. They sonically peaked with Artist in the Ambulance and have only found higher peaks since. Each new record is the epitome of Thrice, and I can't stress that enough. You might miss the old Thrice, sure, but chances are they'll tour an old album, or re-record one. They are still the same band, just evolved into something far greater than the sum of its parts. The song you find boring one day will be on repeat the next. It's sonic literature.
Dear Thrice, Thank you for all your hard work and dedication to the creation. This album has to be one your finest collection of songs I’ve heard. It was modern and familiar. It breathed fire and moved earth. It gave me everything I wanted and needed to hear. Again, thank you for this wonderful collection of music. Sincerely, A Long Time Fan.

I got recommended this band from a stranger on a game I play and I am so thankful because this is a great song!! I'm excited to explore more of their stuff.
Every song is great and has its place but I think I can officially say that this is my favorite song on the album, I love the dystopian imagery and the call for redemption. It’s easy to point fingers and blame others but more often than not the solution lies in reconciliation and moving forward together. The great thing about art is that the only thing that matters is how it makes you feel. With all the issues in our country and division, wealth inequality, race… etc, I hope someday that we can start again and face the unforeseen.
This is GOLD! First Scavengers now this. You guys are just incredible. I listen to a lot of music from all genres, and for some reason I just CANNOT stop listening to your stuff. I've been listening to Scavengers and Robot Soft Exorcism on repeat, over and over, and they just keep getting better. I came late to the Thrice game. I got hooked when they released Major/Minor and then I backtracked and discovered their older albums. And for years now you continue to be my favourite band ever. I hope you know you are deeply appreciated. Thank you for your dedication to writing songs that have so much substance they could generate gravity. It ACTUALLY inspires me to fight for truth, justice, and love. Long Live Thrice.
Every time I hear Dustin’s voice I am reminded of 2000 era when music was awesome. Listening to actual instruments and talented artists. Life was so simple back then. This band even in the present has always felt like a past time band. Like they’re ok with letting the world pass them by. They produce amazing stuff every time. *Also ever time I listen to this song and see the video I think I know what the lyrics are speaking about especially in our highly politically correct world.*
I have no idea what thrice had in mind when they wrote this song, but the imagery and lyrics reminds me of those futuristic dystopian stories of the human species becoming too reliant on technology and losing sight of what the human experience is all about, human connection. The allure of modern convenience isolating us and driving us to do crazy things out of loneliness and emptiness. The need for purpose and to feel alive again is a need we don't always recognize or understand. Technology establishing a barrier between everyone like a prison that can't be seen. Something feels out of place, but you don't quite know what it is. Sometimes it takes putting down that phone and looking someone in the face to have a conversation. A smile, a memory, an experience to break you free. Don't become another victim. Another man stuck in the machine. Edit: People are complex and so it takes work, time, patience and risk of feeling uncomfortable before you can establish a real connection. But, it's worth the effort. When you die you'll leave your wordily possession behind. Everything you know will turn to ash and crumble at your feet. All you can take with you is your collection of memories.
