we've been using Ableton Link since before it was even a thing - timing so tight that you can phase out two identical samples on different machines. It's legit.
I have one of these too. I love watching there UA-cam little video on it and the part where they say 'why not buy two ooo'.. It always gets a giggle out of me.
Add the Pam's midi out expander and you will also get a midi clock sync output for your midi devices. That way you have Link , analog clock and midi clock and in perfect synchronization!
Thats next on my list. I need it to sync the Perkons without having to use the MIDI out of the Beatstep pro which is synced to my DAW. So yes - totally 👍
Thanks for the info. I am so happy that I heard you mention this in the last Sonicstate livechat. I had no idea that something like this existed! Had giving up working in a hybrid way. It was either synths and modular outside the box or working solely in the box. It has been more than a headache. Again, thanks and all the best. Ted PS. I ordered one if there was any doubt.:)
It’s about time Pioneer DJ product team get their sh*t together and support across their recent product line including DJS-1000 and Toraiz SP-16. Nice video!
Thank you! This may be what I have been looking for. I was chasing clock with CV out and CV Tools. It was just not tight or reliable enough with CV Tools. Hopefully this does it for me.
As a newbie how are you interfacing your daw (computer) with the rest of the system. Is it just via ableton link or another interface. This is a steep learning curve 😂
Matt… thank you so much for this video. I’ve been manually editing my eurorack to be in time with ableton and it has been driving me crazy. I was waiting for the bored Brain optx mk2 to try to sync up via cv, but this looks like a much simpler solution. Can I ask: how are you syncing your Perkons along with bigwig and your Modular? Just a MIDI interface out of bit wig? Or are you syncing the Perkons with triggers? Thanks!!!!🙏
Glad to be of service! Im not familiar with the Bored Brain Optx so I cant comment on that but this module is just super easy. The Person is currently synced over MIDI coming from the Beatstep pro which gets its MIDI clock from Bitwig, which is in turn synced via Link! It's a long way to do things until I have Pams additional module that does MIDI. Next on the list...
@@matthsmatthsmatths optx is just an 8 in 8 out adat euro module, but I was planning on using it mostly for sync. The ML:2 looks rock solid and I love the size. Seems to be sold out everywhere at the moment. Hopefully it’s not too much of a wait to get my hands on one. ☝️
Midronome has been great for me too and rock solid but still need a Midi-to-CV module on top to drive modular. For this I use Mutant Brain which sends clock and reset to Pam's in similar way to this video. I wonder how this solution compares to Midronome when Ableton pushes into higher CPU?
I think Pam has a quartz crystal generating the clock which is fine for a (24 PPQN) MIDI clock, all DAW's pick that up easily. The MIDI clock protocol is ok but you have to facilitate it well I guess.
Yes. I am happy.
3 minutes in and you’ve already shown me everything I need to know to convince me to buy this. Thank you for making this video 🙏
Glad I could help!
This is great. I'd be using the malekko sync for this previously, and while it was passable it had its issues. This looks much better!

Not in modular, not in DAW yet, I enjoy dive in Matths tricky workflow. COOL !

Nice video!
That would be great to see! I wonder if its because Ableton charge a licensing fee to use link perhaps?
Ughh yeah I wish cdj's had Ableton link.
You can get prolink to Ableton link converters from memory
I’ve been tempted by this for some time. I should probably just get one.

Let me know how you get on! 👍🏻

Hi! It should all be in the video. Everything is connected over Ableton Link.
Handy!
Yeah - super handy!

I use a Midronome, it's sync via audio but waaaay cheaper than ERM stuff(rip) Ableton link never really worked out for me

I sync my PC using Pam's MIDI clock out (in a expander), I'm curious, why doesn't that work for you?
I don’t have that module I’m afraid. Plus, as noted in the video, I find MIDI to be slightly sloppy. Glad it works for you though!

Or don’t synch at all 😀 rules out the computer then. Looks like a neat device though
