  • It was February 2007 when we headed to Knoxville to catch up with the team and their legendary coach, Pat Summitt. When we visited, Summitt had been the coach of the team for 33 years. In that time, she had guided Tennessee to six national titles and her 941 victories with them was an NCAA record. Her team in 2007 was her greatest ever and included the outstanding Candace Parker.

She will always be the GOAT in coaching and in motivating for life. Losing her the way we did, has been traumatic. I’m still heart broken….

2007 wasn't her 'greatest ever'. lol. We lost three games that year. In 1998 Tennessee went undefeated and was one of the greatest teams ever in the sport, if not the best ever.

But that 98 team didn't have Candice Parker... Greatest girls basketball player ever

2007 played way better teams. hard to compare different generations of a sport, esp. once where the quality and parity of the game is constantly evolving.

Candice hurt her knee her freshman year. If she didn't get hurt, Tennessee wins more championships.

I remember hearing stories of the games Tennessee played against UConn when Pat Summitt was leading the charge. Those were the games everyone talked about in women's college basketball. It felt like an NBA game. If there was one team that had the Huskies figured out, it was Tennessee.

Hahahahaha. Had the Huskies figured out? That's really funny. UConn is 4-0 against Tennessee in national championship games.

After Summitt retired, a UT athletic director announced that the "Lady Vols" nickname was being retired so that UT marketing could be more consistent. The alumni, boosters, and students were NOT amused, so the idea was DOA. I believe that administrator has found other employment.

The VOLS are my college team because I have family in TN & we used to go to their football games when we’d visit. And college football in TN is serious business. A lot different from the NFL atmosphere. Ive always followed the VOLS women’s basketball & Pat Summit was amazing. ✌🏾🧡

Their hard to watch now. I have relatives all over the country. When, they would brag on their teams, conference. All, I had was Tenn. Lady Vols and The Kentucky Wildcats. We don't play as a team. We have the athletes to win. T hey don't give their all.

I saw pat standing outside the gym waiting with her players. This was the last year she would coach. My wife asked me if, I wanted her to stop. I told her no. I was never the type to ask for autographs, hugs because I feel that we're all human and just don't act insane because I see a celebrity. plus, I didn't want to scare her and the players. Needless to say, I regret it now. I have met or was close to a lot of celebrities in my lifetime. I can tell my kids and grandkids in the future that I saw these people but I won't have any proof. so from now on I will at least ask for a picture.

Those were not dunks by Parker. She threw the ball in the hoop and her hand trailed.
