This is the first time I’ve ever heard of WINGS. I’m going to check them out the first chance I get. That was good video. I’ll remember Jan 1, 2021 as the day that I sat up watching coin videos. Family is safe, friends are safe, coins are safe, and God is good ALL TIME.
P.C.G.S. might be the best and most trusted for American coins, but from everything I've heard and researched N.G.C. is the top name in world coin grading, so they would probably have graded many of those coins more accurately.
Based on what? The 3 NGC Slabs that were evaluated all received Gold WING Stickers. I prefer NGC myself, so I understand where you are coming from but there isnt any evidence relevant to your claim in this video atleast.
I loved this video and I would have liked to see some NGC slabs too. I also think the modern coin grading particularly for modern proofs is bad. I also think that WINGS need to improve their website and provide better service outside the USA after all they are dealing with world coins but not the world.
I agree with alot of what you are saying here but did you miss the NGC slabs towards the end? I applaud Lance for not making a big deal when transitioning between PCGS & NGC slabs. Kind of shows his agenda is the coin & the grade it received, not who gave the grade. There is room for some serious improvements and upgrades to the WINGS business model but I appreciate their service. There is definitely a need for their work.
Man, that first coin stuck with me. I just now purchased a 1958-R 500 Lire, PCGS MS 65, which has some amazing toning. The only reason I was looking for it was because of this segment. Thanks Charles!
love the videos thanks for your hard work, would love another one where you sit down with the graders and discuss why the coins got the grades they did. Last one like that was fascinating :)
18/20 got stickers...I think this shows the issue with Wings over, say CAC. All nice coins, don't get me wrong, but when I ask dealers about their opinions about Wings the typical response I get is..."unlike CAC, WINGS doesn't know what they are doing and sticker everything". The dealers I spoke with all seem to value CAC and even QA Check, but not Wings. Do you think they are being unfair? Have you found the WINGS sticker adds value like CAC stickers do? Love these videos, so please don't see this comment as a negative one...just actually curious what you think...as all my World coins sit submitted.
Interesting question. You know Wings used to only sticker coins with their gold sticker for "PQ" coins. They implemented a silver sticker for solid for the grade only a few years ago. As for the value argument, you have to take multiple things into consideration when buying coins. One of the main things you should keep in mind is this question: will a knowledgable dealer like this coin enough to buy it back at a fair price? A Wings sticker is a 2nd opinion from a dealer that sells world coins as a main focus. If nothing else, that should tell a buyer that 1) the grading service liked the coin enough to award it the grade it got and 2) a prominent dealer in world coins also liked it enough to put a sticker on it. Another thing about grading - grading is a pattern recognition skill. It is really difficult for somebody to consistently nail a grade for coins that they do not see often. In this video, I think there are four or five coins that are really not graded correctly. I say that because, I submitted the coins myself after careful study and consideration and if you've ever seen my submission forms over the years- they are very consistent. The 1981-B Indian 10 Rupees and the 1969 25 Girsch in the video are not correctly graded, in my opinion.
I appreciate your perspective on this - great response. I am curious if the higher rate of stickering could be attributed to NGC and PCGS being relatively new to the world grading stage...and the sheer variety and number of world coin. This relative market infancy could result in a similar effect as PCGS Rattler holders in the future (the commonly held belief that the coin is under-graded and a premium given just for the holder generation). In many ways I feel that the world coins market is currently what I hear about the coin market in the 60s and 70s...the wild west, with both opportunities and traps :)
:) btw, your last podcast was the best yet. Glad you found some awesome new coins at...and I don't think it's an exaggeration to say, despite sounding like a used car salesman...insane prices. I'm assuming those are some of the coins we saw in this video.
So you go to these guys and they put a sticker on your slab to make you feel better about the grade? Anyone who is going to be spending significant amounts of $$ on coins probably ought to learn something about grading. If you don't, there will be an expensive lesson coming your way which is what drives many people from the hobby.
... or, you accept certain market realities that in blind transactions coins that have been certified by NGC or PCGS plus a second party tend to bring a little more money. It should be obvious if you follow my videos that I know how to grade coins. These videos are meant to help educate and entertain collectors.
I'm certain that you know what you're doing. I'm just biased against the TPG system. Now if we're talking about a coin that is frequently faked, a slab offers a measure of protection, but between grade-flation and market grading, I'll pass on slabs. That's more money to buy coins!
Look at the final selling price(s) of e PCGSAU58 1794 Large Cent & one that bares the CAC attributed(Sticker) PCGSAU58 1794 Large Cent. In this case the fact that CAC recognizes the PCGS grade could add thousands of dollars to the sale. There are many people that respect Mr. Albanese & his grading regimen for high end numasmatics
@@coinweek Are you planning on selling any of these coins? Id be interested 5132083879 / Collectorsdispatch.com I'm also interested in finding out what I would have to do to become a contributing writer to the website. I love writing and i love collecting coins
Absolutely awesome video... Thank you so much for sharing that with us. Great idea too! I am going to look into sending a couple Panamanian Balboas to WINGS very soon. I wish he wouldve given out the # to the store but Geez am I lazy! I think thos was one of your most interesting videos yet. Webhave very similar tastes as far as modern World Coins. I took note of every coin that was reviewed & hope to add any that I dont have with the exception of the 1981 Uruguay WFD~Gold Coin. Did you say that was limited # to /100 made? Wow! Its a beautiful coin!
I feel so inept after watching ur videos. Thank you for the education. I learn much and then have more questions to research after the videos. I am amazed at the amount of knowledge retained by these individuals. What is an F.A.O. coin? PQ? Did I hear that right? That is what ? please explain.
FAO coins were a multinational commemorative coin program that was created and managed by the UN's Food and Agriculture Organization. Its a fascinating, large, and mostly inexpensive area to collect that Charles enjoys, among others.
I am not a fan of the personality of the man from Wings. I think it's incredibly disrespectful for him to criticize PCGS saying that they arbitrarily pull numbers out of their butt. It's bad business. I will never send anything to Wings.

We appreciate the feedback. We will be doing more grading videos in the future.

I probably picked too many nice coins for the video. ;)

I wonder why they only put wings on foreign coins?I guess that’s there specialty?
I like these videos purely to see some rare and interesting coins - always surprised at what is shown!

put some unslabbed coins in front of Lance and see how well he grades it.... skeptical of so called experts...
Best of coinweek videos are ancient and world ones :)
Crack open the case, pay for the PCGS restoration service to remove the smudge, and regrade.
Was actually just thinking about sending some coins to WINGS.

No problem!
Nice coins.
Thanks!
hello good information
I am not a fan of the personality of the man from Wings. I think it's incredibly disrespectful for him to criticize PCGS saying that they arbitrarily pull numbers out of their butt. It's bad business. I will never send anything to Wings.
I also think the Coin Week host is more knowledgeable than the man from Wings.
Unfortunately that is 33.3% of his job.
